Actually, from what I understand its not the third installment of Assassin's Creed. Its more like a continuation of the second game. Its supposed to deal with Ezio and what happened after the second game ended. So I guess in a sense its called AC 2.5 because its leading into the third game...but its not the third game exactly.

But that's just my guess. I could always be wrong.
