@OpticXtreme Um...stop dropping your phones so much? Just because you have KY jelly on your hands still after fisting your boyfriends ass, and dropped all over your phones, doesn't make the Evo better. Galaxy is durable as shit, iphone sucks, and the evo is good.
amoled isn't really ALL about working well in the sun...it's about displaying truer blacks...instead of the washed out black of the TFT LCD's and more vibrant colors
Downloaded the same movie with the same movie player on Epic and Evo. Epic gave up after about 15 minutes. Evo played the entire movie however only every other frames. Watching HD YouTube video was exactly the same. Which Do I prefer? At the point of purchase I would go for Evo but Samsung Epic is much better phone. Have you ever heard anyone claiming user friendly AOL browser is better than MS internet explorer? HTC makes impressive looking phones that are actually cheap.
ooo stop it stop complain about the plastic feeling seriously feels plastic stop winning about it buy a freaking case -.- seriously how hard can it be
gonna buy the samsung captivate, mainly cause I'm on at&t(unfortunately). I'd say overall the evo is a better phone but it's pretty close, both look like very fast and reliable devices, If I had to pick I'd go with evo if money isnt a factor as far as data plans and all that jazz with sprint just because the phone itself probably performs better and you get 4g depending on your area which is awesome, and I guarantee sprint is a better carrier than at&t as is every other carrier ever.. lol.
Run Nenamark on EVO, it will get 15fps. Epic gets around 50 fps. Better yet run GLBenchmark 2.0 and you'll see it crawling on the EVO. So much for little better graphics speed.
WOw I was just about to sell my epic because I thought it was too bulky for a Evo.. but F it. The Evo is way to big and bulkier... Thank God I found this review.LOL. That evo looks like a damn ipad or something... LOL.
If the Samsung has better battery life how come every review the battery is lower than the Evo ;)
Android is boring without HTC Sense is boring. The HTC looks clean/sleek. The galaxy looks like an oversized slider phone. I know the size is not that much of a difference but it does not look as good. I have seen them both indoors the and the coating on the galaxy screen is pretty reflective.
@nullr1 It depends exactly on what you do, and if you got a LIVE Theme or a Static Background and how many apps are running and shit. I can have my galaxy turned on for about a week, but yeah depends on what you do with it.
@nullr1 Yay! Wasting it, no its actually increasing its longevity. You know the more you use it the shorter lifespan the battery will have, I have had 3 cellphones that died after 1-2 years because of too frequent usage and the more you recharge it (if its not totally empty) it will damage the battery thus why they recommend to always let a battery completely die before you charge and shit no matter what electronic crap.
I was just saying that if you actually use your phone normally its rare that it lasts a day if it lasts two 2 probably aren't using it much making it a waste. You can recharge Li-ion batteries half way. The battery memory effect you refer to is for Nicd batteries. Li-ion batteries have no memory effect. Also I have total protection from sprint so anything short of water or physical damage gets replace for free anyway.
@iElectroxGB Not with Asurion. I've heard of much better insurance plans that are offered by bestbuy or raidoshark or other places. They've got one time insurance fee with 100$ deductible and brand new phones to replacement. Asurions and others offered by cell providers are class action law suits waiting to blow up.
@dokkiro I'm 100 percent sure I broke my evo screen and got a new one WITH asurion. Then my dad got water in his because of my brother and he also got a new one.... Both 100$ Deductible.
@iElectroxGB You got lucky. All depends on the availability at the time but you get the refurbished one if there isn't one available then you get the new ones. I've gotten offered different ones also because They didn't have a refurbished one or new ones at the time.
@nullr1 Oh and not to mention the screen isnt very reflective, it depends on how many fingerprints and humanoilcrap shit is on the screen, I clean mine and when the screen is off I can barely see reflecting on it, unless under direct sunlight or a lamplight.
@nullr1 because whoever own the galaxy is always on it! haha something ive seen personally. everyone with the evos mediocre battery life is always trying to conserve it or use it wisely lol
@6ixtynin9 going back to your comment about the samsung captivate looking like an iPhone, it doesn't really look like the iPhone, it looks better. The iPhone is not an ishit though it still serves me well but I agree that pretty much any android phone nowadays is better. No need to be so negative about it, it never did anything to you :) I'm definantly not getting another one though, getting an aria or captivate for Christmas.
That "cable" has been around for a while (way before the Galaxy S's time) and does not support the Galaxy S in any way, otherwise Samsung would've widely advertise it don't you think? Anyway, Samsung's only mean to support video out, is via 3.5mm jack (composite cable) or DNLA (streaming) at which non are high def. Its a joke to output video via micro USB (only data, no true HDMI connection). Settings on each connector (USB/HDMI) are configured differently, HDMI interface has its own connection.
All over the web I'm finding places saying it will work with the American versions of the galaxy S, but not the european i9000. Oddly enough, I can't find any proof of this at all, so what you say may be correct.
I'll keep looking. Have you tried it, or know someone who's tried it? If not, then there's a chance you're wrong as well...
@LoryLandskipper Why go through the trouble of WMG160 when you can just download the Android media server app and stream wirelessly? The Galaxy S has a Max resolution of 720p, no way are you going to get 1080p resolution out of the Galaxy S, unless the WMG160 up-converts the resolution from 720p to 1080p, which it doesn't. Streaming 1080p wirelessly is almost impossible for many, unless you're a geek with a $5000 computer built for speed, a $500 CPU, a bad ass super fast internet connection, etc
I guess the software update is what's needed then :/
I'll keep an eye on this. I'm thinking of getting the AT&T variant. So far it's been fairly impressive, but I'm switching from Sprint, which means no more unlimited data and mobile to mobile.
Do you own this phone? If so, what are your thoughts on it?
@LoryLandskipper You need Samsung's update, not Android/Google (FroYo 2.2). Hopefully they incorporate Samsung's updates into Android and not do what they did on the Samsung Moment. If you've ever owned Samsung phones, you'd know Samsung are terrible on releasing software updates. You do know Sprint is getting a variant of their own, right? It's called the Samsung Epic 4G. In my opinion, as well as many others, Sprint's variant is the only variant to have, by far the best spec:
@LoryLandskipper Simultaneous WiFi tethering (up to 5 device), front facing camera, LED flash on rear camera, 4G connection, physical qwerty keyboard, and many more, but best of all, lowest plan rates with no data caps. I don't have one yet, but is planning to pick one up for my 3rd Sprint line. A few of my friends have the Galaxy S (Captivate for AT&T and Fascinate for T-Mobile). They like it, but at the same time, complain about how they prefer the Sprint version. I too prefer Sprint's version
I'm getting ready to buy a house. Actually, the inspection is tomorrow lol. Where this house is, however, it doesn't have very good Sprint coverage. At work (right down the road) the story is even worse, with no coverage whatsoever.
I have to weigh this against the cost ($10 extra a month for Epic or Evo.) Right now with insurance, I'm at 83 a month. With AT&T, without insurance, and at 200 text messages, it's like 70, plus they have full coverage.
@LoryLandskipper I see. That really sucks. Sprint's Simply Everything plan together with the superior variant of the Galaxy S, would've been awesome. Too bad you live in a area that has little to no Sprint coverage. The Captivate is not too bad, it's (in my opinion) the most attractive of the 5 variant, just doesn't have all the extra hardware which the Epic 4G does. However, stick with what works best for you. No point buying "the best version" if you can't even get reception. Good luck.
Someone posted at PPCGeeks that a website lists the cable I mentioned as incompatible with galaxy S until a software update. When will it get this software update? Who the hell knows.
Either way, you are correct, and I was misinformed. See ya
@MaPee1982 And don't forget, TouchWiz UI is a fucking peice of shit, compared to HTC Sense UI. Besides, who wants a phone that looks like an iShit. And remember, rooting STARTED with HTC, therefore, developers will always put out more homebrews, hacks, roots for HTC's over Samsung's. Yes the infamous Qualcomm Snapdragon Scorpion processor, it's going to kill so many vs video/speed test video. SNAPDRAGON, BOTTOMLINE BITCHES!
@ipimpslapbabies LOL. Look dick muncher, if you want to insult someone, at least speak right, you illiterate fucking imbecile. What the fuck is "i beast fuck your mom"? Is that an activity you and your mom do every night, fuck like a beast? Hahahahaha. And yes, your mom and dad is going to fuck you like a little bitch that you are and I ain't gonna do a damn thing about it. Go suck a dick, think of something to say, then come back and say it, cause you're weak ass fuck. FAILED!! LMAO. HAHAHAHAHA
it doesn't do the evo's screen justice seeing these two phones' screens compared. Almost all phone screens look dull and boring next to Superamoled. If you saw the evo screen by itself you wouldn't find it dull and boring at all.
Which skin do you think is better? touch wiz or htc sense? my dad owns an evo 4g and i think that sense is amazing which is the only thing stopping me from getting an a galaxy s device. i just want to know if touch wiz is as customizable as htc sense.
BOTH of these phones are almost Equally EPIC!!!!!!!!or just EPIC!!!!!!!!
I want the Samsung GALAXY S because it is the Best,Fastest and most Popular phone in Singapore(SUCK it iPhone!) and the EVO is not available in Singapore, and my friend's father tried buying an EVO from America during some business trip, and failed to bring it back to Singapore cuz' the damn airport guards won't let the EVO pass through with the guy. And,SPRINT is a network only in America right?correct me if I'm wrong.
@UltramanTiga3 You are correct. HTC Evo is a Sprint exclusive meaning it's available on the Sprint network only. Even if you manage to import one to Singapore, it'll be rendered as useless, that is unless you open an account w/ Sprint and have the Sprint International add-on (coverage is surprisingly good too), which I believe costs $40, on top of your monthly charges. About the airport thing, Evo has a magnetometer, which detects metal, which is what's setting off the airport's metal detector
@MaPee1982 Yes,and if you really wanna know a really dumb thing(funny) continue reading. ok so my friend's father tried it AGAIN and actually succeeded by having the phone in some secret compartment in his bags, and when he found out in is SPRINT exclusive,he realised he could not use it.So,the phone is in the Americas, and this idiot friend of mine, took his phone(I was there) and said "Dad,let me handle this" and he and I went to the beach and the idiot THREW THE PHONE INTO THE SEA *read next
@MaPee1982 I ran out of text.... so the idiot THREW AN HTC EVO 4G into the SEA and "hoped" it would "Go through the seas back to America where it belongs" LOL
BTW, the different releases of the Galaxy S tends to confuse people. There are 4 different variant for all 4 major US carriers. Sprint's variant of the Galaxy S (Epic 4G) has a rubberized backing instead of hard plastic and does not have the onboard 16GB. This is a GSM version. Also, the Samsung Epic 4G is the only variant to have a slide out keyboard, camera LED flash, front facing camera, 4G, and wifi mobile hotspot.
The "washed out" color on the Evo is due to the screen. You have the 0003 version which uses the cheap, low grade Epson screen. I have the 0002 version which uses the higer end Novatech screen - colors are very much more vivid, pictures are much sharper compared to 0003 version. Both phone are equally good. But in my opinion, I think the Evo would benefit me more. Bigger screen & HDMI out, it's more important to me than a super AMOLED screen. The downside is, Samsung adopted the iPhone look.
@UltramanTiga333 If the iPhone thing works with you, then I guess so. It doesn't make any sense, Samsung should have shipped the Galaxy S (the original i9000 version and all other version) with 2.2 stock since 2.2 is already available. Official Froyo 2.2 is already available as an upgrade for Sprint HTC Evo subscribers, as well as the Nexus1.
Review is seriously great. I was looking at the samsung epic 4g which is rumored to be due at or around august 20. And the evo is obviously already out and my contract is expiring somewhere in the middle of august. Thats y this video is perfect for me.
thanks for touching on the two! I went with the Samsung vs. the Evo. I'd like to see a comparison amongst the two phone providers. Is this so called 4g network any better, than the 3g? awesome job and appreciate the input... or i guess the output:)
@MrRbails Well i have the evo 4g, and i have 4g in salt lake city. Overall 4g is leaps and bounds faster than 3g networks, but it isn't covered everywhere obviously, so its really a matter of if you have 4g in your area.
This guy has no freaking idea of what he's talking about. Just because they both record in 720P, does NOT mean that they will have the same quality. Then you go on to compare the cameras' quality by Megapixel.. dear lord.
Will the unlocked GSM work with video calling in the US? I heard it will support US 3g? But US Fasinate, Vibrant, Epic etc versions were newtered and the front facing camera's removed
too much of a bias towards evo 4g - the samsung has a little better graphics speed? uh --- the hummingbird with the power vr chip has 3 times, thats 90 million triangles per second of graphics compatibility instead of the evo 4g and every other phone that uses the snap dragon at 30~ million triangles per second. Kind of a big difference
i just love my EVO because it has a hdmi output slot i havent found a phone that has that =/

dont know why everyone says that the galaxy s wont do tv out. but it does.
MRUAV1 1 year ago
it doesn't do the evo's screen justice seeing these two phones' screens compared. Almost all phone screens look dull and boring next to Superamoled. If you saw the evo screen by itself you wouldn't find it dull and boring at all.

@1994WALLEYE
yeah right you're just saying that cause you can't admit that the galaxy s is waaaaay better that the evo or than any other phone

@yasharrazavi i would like to know that too.. i thought it was beautiful widgets or fancy widgets but no...
XImprove 1 year ago
Which skin do you think is better? touch wiz or htc sense? my dad owns an evo 4g and i think that sense is amazing which is the only thing stopping me from getting an a galaxy s device. i just want to know if touch wiz is as customizable as htc sense.
bjbradley1995 1 year ago
@bjbradley1995 the sense UI has its beauties, but the integration on Touch Wiz is amazing

UltramanTiga333 1 year ago
@UltramanTiga3 You are correct. HTC Evo is a Sprint exclusive meaning it's available on the Sprint network only. Even if you manage to import one to Singapore, it'll be rendered as useless, that is unless you open an account w/ Sprint and have the Sprint International add-on (coverage is surprisingly good too), which I believe costs $40, on top of your monthly charges. About the airport thing, Evo has a magnetometer, which detects metal, which is what's setting off the airport's metal detector
MaPee1982 1 year ago
@MaPee1982 Yes,and if you really wanna know a really dumb thing(funny) continue reading. ok so my friend's father tried it AGAIN and actually succeeded by having the phone in some secret compartment in his bags, and when he found out in is SPRINT exclusive,he realised he could not use it.So,the phone is in the Americas, and this idiot friend of mine, took his phone(I was there) and said "Dad,let me handle this" and he and I went to the beach and the idiot THREW THE PHONE INTO THE SEA *read next
UltramanTiga333 1 year ago
@MaPee1982 I ran out of text.... so the idiot THREW AN HTC EVO 4G into the SEA and "hoped" it would "Go through the seas back to America where it belongs" LOL
UltramanTiga333 1 year ago
@UltramanTiga333 LOL. Crazy and weird. Could've taken it back home and sold it online for some cash. Hahaha. Oh well, better luck next time.
MaPee1982 1 year ago
BTW, the different releases of the Galaxy S tends to confuse people. There are 4 different variant for all 4 major US carriers. Sprint's variant of the Galaxy S (Epic 4G) has a rubberized backing instead of hard plastic and does not have the onboard 16GB. This is a GSM version. Also, the Samsung Epic 4G is the only variant to have a slide out keyboard, camera LED flash, front facing camera, 4G, and wifi mobile hotspot.
*T-Mo: Vibrant
*ATT: Captivate
*Ver: Facinate
*Sprint: Epic 4G
MaPee1982 1 year ago
The "washed out" color on the Evo is due to the screen. You have the 0003 version which uses the cheap, low grade Epson screen. I have the 0002 version which uses the higer end Novatech screen - colors are very much more vivid, pictures are much sharper compared to 0003 version. Both phone are equally good. But in my opinion, I think the Evo would benefit me more. Bigger screen & HDMI out, it's more important to me than a super AMOLED screen. The downside is, Samsung adopted the iPhone look.
MaPee1982 1 year ago
@MaPee1982 yes,the Best thing is,it look like an iPhone with cooler features and ANDROID OS 2.1(upgradeable to 2.2)
UltramanTiga333 1 year ago
@UltramanTiga333 If the iPhone thing works with you, then I guess so. It doesn't make any sense, Samsung should have shipped the Galaxy S (the original i9000 version and all other version) with 2.2 stock since 2.2 is already available. Official Froyo 2.2 is already available as an upgrade for Sprint HTC Evo subscribers, as well as the Nexus1.

Review is seriously great. I was looking at the samsung epic 4g which is rumored to be due at or around august 20. And the evo is obviously already out and my contract is expiring somewhere in the middle of august. Thats y this video is perfect for me.

thanks for the great review!
adnamarie 1 year ago
thanks for touching on the two! I went with the Samsung vs. the Evo. I'd like to see a comparison amongst the two phone providers. Is this so called 4g network any better, than the 3g? awesome job and appreciate the input... or i guess the output:)
MrRbails 1 year ago
@MrRbails Well i have the evo 4g, and i have 4g in salt lake city. Overall 4g is leaps and bounds faster than 3g networks, but it isn't covered everywhere obviously, so its really a matter of if you have 4g in your area.

Two questions about the Galaxy:
1.) When is it coming out?
2.) Is there any way to turn off the skin on it?

This guy has no freaking idea of what he's talking about. Just because they both record in 720P, does NOT mean that they will have the same quality. Then you go on to compare the cameras' quality by Megapixel.. dear lord.

Current Verizon customer, would you recommend the galaxy S Fascinate over the Droid X??
panpanCQ 1 year ago
Will the unlocked GSM work with video calling in the US? I heard it will support US 3g? But US Fasinate, Vibrant, Epic etc versions were newtered and the front facing camera's removed

kukimane 1 year ago
too much of a bias towards evo 4g - the samsung has a little better graphics speed? uh --- the hummingbird with the power vr chip has 3 times, thats 90 million triangles per second of graphics compatibility instead of the evo 4g and every other phone that uses the snap dragon at 30~ million triangles per second. Kind of a big difference

@juzchillin19 Ha, I noticed the same thing.. I wonder how it stacks to the Droid X's OMAP.
