OMG TY for this post. Been looking for this song since I heard it in a mix here in Vegas back in 86 or 87 when I was in my graduating year. I "just for the hell of it" typed in "music is the key to set yourself free" and here you are first one......TTTTTYYYYY
14 years old, headphones on all night, under the duvet so's my folks wouldn't hear, listening to LWR, Horizon, and the Solar pirates, always late for school as a result! Heard this and the world changed. This was the start of house for me. Long synth leads. Goosebumps. I later went on to organise the Outback and ZEN raves at the Slough Centre, the most amazing experience of my life and this record is largely responsible (:
The name of the original NYC Colonel Abrams track from summer 84 was Music is the Answer. This very first house record is called Music is the Key...DUH! NYC club records flooded Chi, and were the basis for house music.
This was the first ever house track that came out on record, towards the end of summer 85. It was a clear bite on NYC's Colonel Abram's vocals AND the title and lyrics of the song!
This was also the first ever record on DJ International, which was the first ever Chi house record label, along with Trax.
@hardcorehouse Actually Jesse Saunders "on and on" released in 1984 on vinyl was the first house track out on record. It was released on Jesse's own label called 'Jes Say'.
@TFC4Life08 Well actually that was in the category of Jamie Principle's 84 releases, in that they were merely regional releases. The only things that were relevant to the rest of the world were the DJ Int'l and Trax stuff.
Can anyone please help ID a house track that samples "Music Is The Key" at 3:38 to 3:40, the rap saying "Music is the key to set yourself free!"? The track was instrumental, from 89-91, and have the sound of a crowd sometimes.
i am loving this. House music all night long. I am one of many who enjoyed these tunes back in the day :)

similar distorted vocal starting just before 4minute mark to Freeez 'IOU' from 1983.
in the UK Colonel abrams was himself described as house - his "Trapped" was the first time I think I ever heard the term house.
