great technique! i just, and i don't mean this in a bad way... i wish i believed you. this is a regret-filled song, but you don't sound angry, sad, anything. i'm in no position to critique, but there is a reason they call the genre Blues. Anyway, you have a new fan, looking foreward to more posts.
This is what I like even more than in the Wolf original (and the same thing I'd say of your fresh performance of "Hound Dog"). I mean, you get some jazzy "air" into that kind of tight rockers. I think you're an innovative performer who really gets something new out of some blues classics - still repsecting the roots...:-)
I think this is a an overall performance slightly better than the Led Zeppelin version, and almost just as good as the Holwlin' Wolf original. Your picking in that piece is good, but I think it's much better in some other performances by you. Hubert Sumlin still gets the touch slightly better - but as you know, he was much more talented than you when that Wolf record was made. In your version, the good thing is that you get very much "air" into your performance.
Nice natural voice! I mean you're speaking voice wouldn't be much different. It's great to hear people sing that way. Not like they're someone else when they sing. And of course, great guitar playing!
@Wanderer123 Thanks so much for the flattering words. I am happy you like my sning and playing! It really means a lot! Sorry for really the late reply!
I was speaking to a friend who also plays We are both around 60 years old & are new to our instruments . We came to the conclusion that bettween 10 to 20 years old you can really learn how to play well , fast , because we will never play as well as you . Your teriffic ! You play as well as anyone I have ever heard . But , we keep trying to be as good as you .
@hutchfromba Hi, Jerry. Good luck to you on your instrument. Yeah, I read an article that said brain mass starts decaying at 25 yrs. of age, so the prime time to learn something if before then. Thanks, again, J.
I have watched a lot of your vids. Keep playing AND singing Alicia. You know you can play, but you also have a great blues vocal sound going. The guitar+vocal angle will take you a long way. You playing in a band or with other musicians regularly?
Wow.........I don't know what to say.....other than the fact trhat I am VERY impressed with your playing Alicia! I don't hear of girls your age that are into the blues very often. Good job!
wow.....you are seriously talented....Eric Clapton was afraid to do this song cuz he said it was too hard...and that was when he was 'god' in Cream...and you, only 15? Hell, I might as well quit playing now.....
@bluesbaby8 hehehe alright, suit yrself. :) Are you taking music theory? If not, you definitely should. Most people don't realize that Hendrix actually studied it and knew everything about what he was doing on every level.
Best of luck with everything. I think yr future is very bright.
You have a great taste in music, keep sticking with these old standards, you're setting them alight! Well done, your natural talent is really beginning to flow...! You have a fabulous voice too: thorny, gritty, sonorous and characterful...Your guitar chops are superb...What more could a girl want?!...Marvellous...Love, Red x
@popstotexas Hi! Thanks for the nice comment! BB King inspired me to play guitar, then a year or so after I started I bought some Hal Leonard blues backing track books. They really got me interested in blues.
You're probably working on it now, but a word of advice Alicia - start bringing in some finger vibrato ie. bending up a step. In this case bending from a G to A - D to E - C to D etc and keeping vibrato. Staple of rock blues and will add another dimension to your already excellent playing
Yeah I agree with Jake,it's great to hear you singing Alicia, your voice gets better with age and your guitar playin is something else! 100 %Blues ! 5*
