The Federal State/Bank Embezzlement 63 percent inflation of the money supply during the 1920s caused the economic contraction of 1929; Hoover's criminal socialist policies extended it 3+ years; FDR's criminal socialist policies extended it for 11 years; and Truman's criminal socialist policies extended it until 1947.

I don't think it is possible to compare what is happening today with what happened during the Great Depression. The world is so completely different today. We have technology today that people couldn't have dreamed of during that time. We are not dealing with the drought and dust bowl scenario either. We now have social programs like Medicare and Social Security that didn't exist during that time. It's very, very different now but things are getting bad that's for sure.
@MrsSarb The money is still the same. What makes you think it won't be worthless again? You think your technology will save you when you have no place to get power? I can assure you there is an energy crisis on the horizon. Read about China, Russia, Venezuela or Pakistan.
You think it won't happen again, but I can more than assure you that it has already started. Wake up and look around you. When your lights don't come on maybe you will stop watching TV and see reality as we do. It sucks
CallOnYahweh: Actually you do make a valid point. If the dollar completely collapsed and we went into hyperinflation it would be far worse than the Depression ever was. I was referring to a general economic downturn, not a collapse. I guess I was looking at them as two different scenarios. No, I'm not naive to that possibility. It is very real possibility and will happen sooner or later. Hopefully later rather than sooner.
It is ENERGY which drives the world. Money has nothing to do with it. It never has. We trade money for energy. When your money is worthless, you cannot purchase energy. The government pumped millions into the local markets before the great depression. What you don't hear is that there were actually TWO depressions. The first one they did nothing about and it adjusted. The second one scared them so much they poured all this money into it and then it collapsed.
Hea hea ha did you get your freebe, oboma is jacking off the nation, car dealers are selling him there shit cars an crushing good ones,FACT is ITS A NATION of crooks(gov) vs. FOOLS(we the people)Hea its all good today,FUCK TOMORROW,live like your nigger rich get some credit somewhere stupid.Oboma will jerk you off/Ho your a nigger fucker GET READY TO EAT REaLL SHIT NEXT AMERICA THE next go round comming

Boy, I hope we really pitch in and help all who need it by offering food, clothes, shelter. Maybe people can offer shelter with extra bedrooms in their homes, family members helping each other, whatever we can do to help each other..I really can't believe I learned about this in school, never knowing I would have to live though one...
It is a shame that so many people, even historians and some economists, buy into so many fallacies on The Great Depression. Both how we got into it and how we stayed in it until WWII.
The Great Depression, with wise economic policy, should never have happened. There is absolutely no justification for how we got into The Great Depression and how we stayed in it for over a decade.
Both Hoover and FDR were complete domestic disgraces. Thinking historians and economists should not vindicate them.
Well, the word "proof" for economic analysis is a little too blunt.
I could give you the example of the 1987 stock market crash. Very few people even know about or remember this crash even though it was larger than the 1929 crash - believe it or not. Greenspan was the fed chairman and Reagan was President. I think they all followed wise economic policies following that massive crash and we avoided not only a recession, but a depression.
yeah, and what made that crash that was even worse than the one in 1929 not turn into a bigger depression, was FDR's reforms. Haven't you ever heard of the SEC, AAA, TVA, CCC, etc.?
Nor am I a fan of the SEC as I think they do more harm than good in 1.) Granting investors a false sense of security & 2.) Giving incentive through many of the specific regulations to keep information concealed.
For an economic analysis of the New Deal, read "New Deal or Raw Deal?" & "FDR's Folly". FDR's "reforms" is what made the Depression, "Great"....
Politics at its best - What Obama is going to do is sit on this economic problem for like months if not Years then when time for relection comes up, start really trying to crop up some good news for the economy thus creating some sort of frenzy in 2012 - Same thing Bush did in 04 only his was 9/11 - Wake up we're already in a depression
Someone should send this to our "affirmative action" prez - not that he can see anything (he's blind), but maybe someone of influence could see it - the slimey chicago THUG & his friends "Rev" (goddamamerica) Wright, Looee (nationofislam) Fckngkhan, Bill (bomb more) ayers-head and michelle ()kill whitey) osamabama ding dong are robbing the US treasury.. The "Not My President" and "Obama Lied, the Economy Died"...T-shirts & bumper stickers are flying off the rack...
My home town of Elkhart, In is now currently in a depression(-10% of GDP). It's very industrial nothing else. I saw this coming 4 years ago and knew it had nothing to offer me. So I left and things are better here in Miami, but I didn't think things were gonna get this bad
I think magnitude of this crisis will be much greater.. than Great Depression.. I hope I'm wrong.. During Great Depression dollar had its equivalent in gold now dollar doesn't have its equivalent in paper on which dollar should be printed ..
this is predicted to happen in about 4 years, its gonna be worse, hyper inflation, credit card debts, mortgage debts, etc which werent even a major part of the first great depression....
and all of the sudden Obama is kissing Medvedev's and Putin's rear end; and they make it a public PR stunt and a spectacle out of his diplomacy skills.......
and NATO allies are stunned and dumbfounded.
Bush's only mistake was that he didn't go far enough.
Iran is pathological. ...
a narcissistic stump hellbent on becoming a sequoia.
Wrong. FDR continued the depression, he made it worse. Obama's attempting to do the same corrupt techniques, and the Dow keeps on tumbling without any sign of bottoming out.
that big "stimulus" package obama is proposing is going to cause the 2nd great depression i do not trust any politician right now !! we have to stand up for WE THE PEOPLE and not WE THE GOVERNMENT !!
Think its generally accepted that president Hovers lack of a stimulus package prolonged the depression but it is maybe a little unclear whether the New deal of President Roosevelt or the Out bake of war in Europe was the main factor in the recovery.
The Great Depression sort of started but slowly because the stock markets had not crashed yet; they're dropping drastically but they haven't reached the bottom of the pit. I bet around 10-20 years from now, the Depression will begin.
The Great Depression can never start again, there was only one Great Depression. However, another depression may happen soon. Also, the stock market can never crash again like it did on Black Tuesday/Thursday due to the safeguards instituted by FDR at the beginning of his term.
to mrjaborer: I believe we could have a depression as bad or worse than the "Great Depression". It may have different causes, different roots....but non the less the same result. If people "really start panicking" they will start selling off all their stocks and start pulling cash out of the banks. I have already started pulling out cash from my bank at about $2000 a month because the news is getting so grim...and so frightening
the crash of 87 was the largest crash in one day, yet the stock market did not plummet nearly as bad as 29 overall. I'm not sure what you mean about the crash of 2000, maybe you mean the crash after 9/11 which wasnt as bad either.
I suggest you hop on a freight train heading out west to the great frontier. Then you'll find a job, and the love of a good woman. Your house might be nothing fancy, butit'll be a down-to-earth dwelling for plain simple folk. Good luck, neighbour, and God bless!

jfk tried to fix the 50 year error by printing silver certificates. he was assasinated for it, and the illuminati reigns on (hail king david rockefeller).

the market couldnt have been as manipulated as it was if our dollars were backed by gold and silver. now our dollars more than ever seem to be backed by debt. u.s. dollars were taken off the gold standard in 1913
The New Deal didn't make much of an impact. Making weapons for Great Britain and France in 1939 and 1940 and entering the War in 1941 ended the Depression.
...what's the old saying? - Those that control the money control the laws...they pass laws to prevent their acts of treason from being seen...it is an evil vs. the good of the country and we need to check it...or kill it.
