@AuralPianista yo tenia 18 años y me acuerdo perfectamente cómo me levante del sillón y me llevé las manos a la cabeza como diciendo "por diossss que entre, por diosss que entre la puta flecha..."
Antonio Rebollo deliberately overshot the cauldron and did not light the Olympic flame with the arrow. This was done by a Reyes Abades technician via remote control in all rehearsals and the ceremony itself according to the official report for the 1992 Olympics.
@siritish That's obvious... but it doesn't matters, the history won't remember that guy. Antonio Rebollo will be ALWAYS the guy who lit the olympic cauldron. Fake? Maybe. Amazing? Of course. So... who's the hero? Rebollo or the "other guy"? Please, please, be careful with that. Don't be such a jerk. However, if you are a non-imagination guy, with a rock instead of a heart, I really can't blame you. =)
@siritish Yes if you watch at 4:57-4:58 and pause the video you can see the flame did go over the cauldron but our eyes aren't quick enough to tell that at the time it happened so it was tremendous. Kind of like trick photography but a wonderful effect!
@darrelfong This was the best Olympic Games ever. There will never be another like this. As far as openings go, only Moscow 1980 and Nagano 1998 compares. The tenors and sopranos supplied by Spain in 1992 was brilliant. The way that Japan involved people from all around the world in Beethoven's ninth, and the spectacular dancing displays and the use of cards by the audience in Moscow was groundbreaking stuff. I think 1992 was the champion though.
@SugarTomAppleRoger It's not fair to say this!...Everybody goes after Greece!..Spain goes right after!..Do not be ungrateful! BEHAVE! Nobody will ever surpass the ORIGINAL GREEK GAMES OF ATHENS,...BY THE WAY PART OF THE OLYMPICS OF SPAIN WAS GREEK!
The best lighting ceremony ever. I loved this as I was 13 at the time and I was impressed because a Paralympic athlete lighted the cauldron with an arrow! I can't wait for the London 2012 Games as I might have the chance to carry the torch next year. xx
Rebollo didn't miss - he just didn't put the arrow in the cauldron, which is exactly what he had been instructed to do. He was told to aim high, out of the fear that missing would have shot fire into the audience...

As soon as the torch lights I'm a sense of humbleness and amazement washes for me. By far my favorite Torch lighting and the most epic.

Lol idc it would be so fun to shoot fire arrows.

The arrow only needs to pass through the fumes of the cauldron to light it. It does not need to land in it,
The archer said in an interview that he practised so much that missing would have been very small chance
