I only watch this video for the instrumental version of this song. I used to be a WWII buff, so I'm sure I'd love the game, but I've got too much on my plate as is!
No its mainly because it came out 3 years ago! IL2BoP is shit anyways. This is a simulator, not an arcade game like IL2. And don't say IL2 is a simulator as well just because its got a 'Simulation' Difficulty.
This sim looks great! You can even even use the mirror to see what's behind you, which isn't the case on IL2. Only question is: when will it be available??
This sim has been out and available for several years. In fact the all-volunteer dev team (BDG) has just released the latest update version 2.10. The video here is based on vers 2.07 IIRC. Go to "a2asimulations" website for info and/or to buy the game as a download.
Dogfighting was extremely frustrating and tiring to both pilots and many dogfights were broken off without conclusive results. Also, many combatants were separated because they simply lost sight of each other during the violent maneuvers. Most kills in WWII were achieved by a bounce on an unsuspecting foe who was flying straight and level. This kind of attack is quite rare in sims against A.I. but more chances to practice in online play against humans.
You can look around om the cockpit using a device called TrackIR. It can also be used in many other flight sim games. Its a small clip mounted on a ball cap or visor and a small Infrared Camera on top of the PC monitor. Small movements of your head translate into large movements of the view point on the screen. Greatly increased the sense of realism in ANY flight game that supports Track IR.
Germany and England were roughly evenly matched in the air at that point in the war but the English had significant naval superiority. Without air superiority to offset that, the Germans could not invade. The Battle of Britain was Germany's effort to destroy the RAF in order to launch the invasion. When they were unsuccessful Hitler suspended indefinitely the invasion and then focused on Operation Barbarossa - the invasion of Russia the following summer.
@SeaVeeBoB2 the only thing that made the German air campaign against us fail, was switching the bombing from our important southern RAF Airfields, to bombing major cities...from that point on, we could never truly have been threatened with an invasion.
Yes I know...but that is incorrect. Is it a big deal no, but why not call it by its correct name. The serial plate on even the last 109's made still read BF. As sim players we strive for realism so lets call it the real name.
This is very well done! Thanks for posting the video. I hope we will never forget all the men and women that helped in the Battle of Britain, in the air and on the ground.
In addition, I think the music choice was perfect.
Yes without the Canadians,Australians,New Zealanders,Scotish and Irish amongst others, the Germans would have beaten the English in the BOB. There is no doubt about it.
You know that initialy that the BoB was fought by the british. While the Brits were on the ground preparing for the assualt, nearly Canadian Pilots in Hurricane Fighters defended the British Channel and bought enough time for the british to scramble fighters
The Canadians, Kiwis, Aussies & South Africans all played their part in BoB without a doubt, and it something that any educated British person is well aware of. From a personal point of view, I am fiercely proud of our association with all the aforementioned nations. Canada made a major contribution in WW2 :)
You can also find The Damned's "The Light at the End of the Tunnel." Beware, these guys are mostly a punk rock band that turned semi gothic. I do not consider In Dulce Decorum to be an indication of how most of their music sounds.
I have them both, both are great. BoB2 is offline only whereas IL2 has both multiplay and offline. BoB2's artificial intelligence (AI) planes are much better (its like fighting a real person almost) so the offline play is a better experience than offline in IL2. IMO both are "must haves" for serious air combat simmers. Mysticpuma's Interception video downloaded in high res, not YouTube version REALLY shows how this game looks and plays well.
No, IL2 and BoB2 are from two totally different developers. IL2 is Oleg Maddox's brainchild and BoB2 is an updated version of the now defunct Rowan Software's original Battle of Britain. Oleg & Co. are however currently working on their own BoB game.
Can you say you do not know anything about the game? This video was done with version 2.05 and it is mostly dusk so its hard to see the terrain. The game is now at version 2.07 and ALL NEW high res, photorealistic terrain has been added. In fact there are several different terrain versions available. Look at Mysticpuma's "Interception" video - just made with the new terrain.
This is a superb video!I am impressed. I couldnt help noticing that all targets were fired upon from a distance. Could a video game be created in which the player/pilot has total control? Like the tactics used by Polish pilots in BOB - they charged at their targets and veered off just before colliding and then charged them again firing on them at close range...does the expression "wait till you see the whites of their eyes" make an impact? Editor, website Polish Greatness
You've obviously never played this game. Battle of Britain II is great. Its as good as Janes World War II fighters in a lot of ways but with strategy too, this Battle was well worth several games, beginning with LucasArts Their Finest Hour.
By the way, all new photorealic terrain textures have been added since this video as well as significantly enhanced flight models and many other changes. They will be in the 2.07 patch due out in a couple of weeks.

It now needs a fairly strong PC. Definitely a FULLY DX9 compliant video card. I'd say also at least 512MB system RAM, preferably a 1GB and a CPU of at least about 2Ghz P4 (single core). The game LOVES the new dual core CPUs.
The strongest part of this game is the dynamic campaign(may be it can be overwhelming for someone).
I never felt at home with BoB 1/2, because frames too thin, bad instuments and because the "mass" of the plane doens't feels right to me when I move the stick around.
Being offline only, you have to cope with stupid AI, which never respond aggressively to your manouvers, and this said by someone which is under average fighter pilot.
Leptospirosi, has it been a while since you played Bob2? Perhaps you tried it with the early patches. There have been enormous strides in the patches starting mostly with 2.05 and now 2.06 on the AI behavior overall and their fighting skills. Many users overwhelmingly comment that the AI in BoB2 is the best they've seen in any combat flight sim.... Also there are all new flight models (beta) with significant improvements there including prop torque effects.
At the moment it is single player only nut the developers are actively working on multiplayer - maybe 6-12 months. At shockwave look for the link to FORUMS and then 'BoB2 General Discussion'. All you want to know is there.
IRMoon, those are absolute minimum specs and the game will look like crud with them. With the latest updates I think one should have at least 512MB ram and a Pentium 4 CPU. The game LOVES the new dual core CPUs.
You can download the patches for free.Go to gamershell and search battle of Britian wings of victory and then select the download section. You'll see or the patches available. Start with 2.01 and then make your through them untill 2.06. As for the speed of the enemy planes, i can't really help you there, this is a combat flight sim after all dude.
dude btw its . com for some reason i can't write in a URL
great do i have to buy these patches or what, the main problem i have is that it is impossible to dogfight because the enemy fighters are just too damn fast.
dude you must patch the game before playing it otherwise it will be really buggy!! The latest patches have not only got rid of the bugs, and crahses but have also improved the game's quality.
I wish the game wouldn't crash all the time, I read a review and apparently there is no way of stopping this , do u know a way, its not my computer its brand new and it is really good.
Sorry I don't think so. The game requires a pretty strong PC and a FULLY DirectX 9.0C compliant video card. I'm pretty syre the MX4 series cards are not.
I visited this site due to a reference to the game, but I didn't realise the song was by the Damned. This brings back some memories! Perfect application!
Ps someone know where i can found a old video of il2 called il 2 salvation? It was very very nice, there was russian and german aircraft;i cna not find it any more :-(((/
I used FRAPS to record it and ULEAD VIDEO STUDIO 10+ to edit, add sound track, etc. More info on the video editing process at the Shockwave Productions Bob2 General Discussion forums. Look for a thread titled "Post Video Clips and Video Links Here"
Well no offense to The Damned or Dave Vanian - I actually picked the song because I think its awesome. Loud as heck driving on the highway in a sportscar or back when I had my Suzuki motorcylce with headphones blaring it just kicked @ss.
Maybe with the graphics options really turned down but it won't look nearly so good. Also the video card needs to be FULLY direct X9.0c compliant. Go to the shockwaveproductions forums and post your system specs with this question. There are likely users there with similar rigs that can give you a more solid answer.
The song is the version that is on the Miami Vice soundtrack. Other than lowering the volume in a few spots so that the game sounds could be heard I didn't alter it at all.... Is there more than one version of this song out there?
In my bdg.txt file I have small at 70, medium at 95, large at 110. I have a large widescreen LCD though so maybe not right for everyone. You can adjust FOV in-game with CTRL+numpad plus or CTL+numpad minus. I have two joystick buttons macroed to those. Join the shockwaveproductions forums for tons more tech tips - its free. The community there is very helpful.
I used FRAPS to record it all. For the external view shots I was viewing with the in-game REPLAY function (recording with FRAPS). I right-clicked for free look view with mouse in the external shots and I guess my hand must not have been too steady... More on the video making process at Shockwaveproductions website - look for "post videos here" thread in BoB2 section.
I,ve read alot about this game. I'm a Il-2 die hard myself but this footage is amazing!! That view in the rearview mirror is so realistic. The enginesounds and weapons sound very authentic too. So this game is stabilized now ? No more funny glitches and crashes and stuff?
It is very very substantially improved from the totally buggy release in late 2005. Yet another patch is imminently going to be released. I have iL2 also and it is a good game too. There are many new boB2 users who are also iL2 guys. Go to the shockwave productions and/or simhq BoB2 forums for tons more feedback from new users. You will be pleasantly surprised.
Yeah I have both BoB2 and il2 '1946. I like them for diferent reasons. I like Bob's explosion but I also like il2's damage model and wide range of aircraft.
One only needs the 2.06 and 2.06.01 patches. You don't need the older patches. Then there is the optional Multiskin update if your PC is strong enough. Most crashes have been solved with the patches. You ABSOLUTELY MUST have DX9.0C from April '07 or later for the game to work. Go to shockwaveproductions for help with the game it is THE resource for BoB2.
The flybys are a user mod, readily available for download along with many other user mods. The stock flybys are very good too but I prefer these. PC Gamer magazine March '07 dedicated the entire, full-page simulation column to Battle of Britain II. "If you have the right stuff, a twisting and turning engagement between the nimble Spitfire and the quicker Bf109 can produce some of the most amazing aerial dogfighting action you'll ever witness in a PC Combat-sim."
Gueps - have you updated the game to the latest patch version 2.05? The game is significantly different now (better) than at the original release in late '05. Google Shockwave Productions or the game name Battle of Britain II Wings of Victory for more info.
is this availible yet iwant it so bad great british accent to

I used FRAPS to record it all. For the external view shots I was viewing with the in-game REPLAY function (recording with FRAPS). I right-clicked for free look view with mouse in the external shots and I guess my hand must not have been too steady... More on the video making process at Shockwaveproductions website - look for "post videos here" thread in BoB2 section.

Where is the sirene on the Stuka's Seavee? It was actuated by the divebrakes (later in ww2 removed)but I can't hear them?

What Game is this, and How Much did it Cost?

The flybys are a user mod, readily available for download along with many other user mods. The stock flybys are very good too but I prefer these. PC Gamer magazine March '07 dedicated the entire, full-page simulation column to Battle of Britain II. "If you have the right stuff, a twisting and turning engagement between the nimble Spitfire and the quicker Bf109 can produce some of the most amazing aerial dogfighting action you'll ever witness in a PC Combat-sim."

It's a good game this. Not as good as the IL2 series but still cool. I love the scale, it's epic.

I'm lucky to have a pretty powerful PC: Pentium D 950 Dual-Core 3.4 GHZ; 2GB DDR2-667 RAM; Asus P5N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard; NVIDIA eVGA 8800GTX; Audigy 2Zs; Westinghouse 37" LCD @ 1920X1080; MS FFB2 stick; Track IR 4 Pro; Logitech G7 Lazer Mouse & Z560 5.1 speakers; Buttkicker Gamer. Its pretty hard-core.

Gueps - have you updated the game to the latest patch version 2.05? The game is significantly different now (better) than at the original release in late '05. Google Shockwave Productions or the game name Battle of Britain II Wings of Victory for more info.
