hey man great vids i love them... im starting mma next year and i want to learn a bit of muay thai thats why ive been watching the vids..i can kick quite hard with my left leg but cant kick at all with my right...how can i strengthen my right leg kicks?
LOL! Great vid. Awesome. Only thing is its distracting because the assistant looks like that actor Lou Diamond Phillips LOL!. Anybody know the actor I'm talking about?
Ok,I'm sorry for this but I only heard of this type of fighting just a little bit ago and I heard the saying-"Kick loses to punch, punch loses to knee,
knee loses to elbow, elbow loses to kick’".I was wondering ifthis is true?
@clearcombat First off, muay boran is actually an umbrella of older regional muay thai styles (muay lek, muay mae mai, muay chiya) nd if you see it, it's very stylized and steeped in tradition. Lerdrit is focused on modern close quarter combat, so a lot of the traditional stuff has been stripped out and more emphasis is placed on incompacitation as it pertains to an enemy combatant vs. a competitive opponent. Hope this helps.
these are nice sneaky kicks but if you're that close you can easily be crushed with some straight up boxing. it would really depend on who lands first, but unless you are ultra fluid with these kicks I would recommend sticking to fists when you are in this range.
@ojmoss This is the BEST time to use kicks actually, Maybe not in an MMA sense, but in a real world combat sense. The most effective stikes are ones that are never seen. Immediately follow the kick the the right shin with an Elbow or even a short right cross and it's either lights out, or (if they are off balance)they are on the ground giving you time to get away.
Wouldn't you consider these kicks as cut kicks. I like them when sparring when a grappler really sits on his shoots or strikes. I have seen them in ShuaiJiao, plus they add some nice throws and tosses. What do you think?
Donnie B, your videos are absolutly fantastic. I have always wanted to learn muay boran and other styles. Where is your gym and do you tech krabi krabong per chance?
What is a good way to improve low kicks? I can kick alright with my left leg but I can't do anything with my right which is really odd to me seeing as I can shift from orthodox and south paw with and vice versa with ease though I am a natural south paw. What could I do to improve my kicks with my right leg??
Pretty simple, repetition, repetition and more repetition using your right leg. Start by focusing exclusively on form by breaking the move down into steps and executing the move slow and controlled. Once you have your form down good then you can gradually increase the speed of the move until it becomes one fluid motion.
@valak00 I was the same way for years, then I decided to use my bad leg as my lead leg and kick softly against the heavy bag. It only took about 3 months for me to switch back and forth with power. Also, balance has a lot to do with it. Just do leg locks for 15 minutes a day 3 times a week. Leg locks are kicks after you push outward, just let them hang for 10 seconds.
The knee strike should never be with the patella (knee cap). The striking point should be the end of the femur (long bone of the thigh). That is the reason to pull your foot right up to your butt and point the striking area out towards the target like a spear. If you strike with the patella, you will not only get teeth stuck in it, you will dislocate / fracture it also.
I'm actually not striking with the knee here. I'm using the upper half of the shin to strike. And you are spot on with your advice in regards on knee strike placement and why you pull your leg back when you throw a knee. Pulling the leg back also pulls down the quad to help protect your femur during the attack.
@whotookdonnierules Absolutely, Thats why I use the driving kneein a slightly downward strinking motion on the lower body and the mid section.... Also I wanted to ask, how do you feel about the superman elbow? Ive been using it in the gym and everyone thinks it looks awesome and I can feel TONS of power in my superman elbow, but my Trainers dont like the idea.....why is this? I always careful when I use it, so whats the big deal?
@whotookdonnierules First thanck you very much for your videos and dedication, just a thing." Pulling the leg back also pulls down the quad to help protect your femur during the attack" really don´t get it,if you pull your leg back you actually strech the cuad and you will be hitting with the cuad tendon, how you do that without pain? it´s some kind of conditioning or something? tendon pain is awfull

Does this style happen to be Ledrit? I never really knew about ledrit until I was reading on M Bison from street fighter who happens to do Ledrit which seems to be similiar or connected to Muay Thai. The kicks to the foot seems very similiar so just wanted to know since I don't see much on this style
Wouldent "old style MuayThai" be called Muay Boran? Or is that something else??? I never really thought much about kicking the front of their shins, in Karate we sometimes kick the back of the caff and trip them. But I really like the MuayThai roundhouse more then Karate anyway, maby I can try =D
it looks effective though i must say in muay thai your lead leg is not flat footed u are on the front of your foot/toes and tapping it to have your chek ready so this technique would not be effective on alot of people especially thai fighters
Gee, thanks oh great one. If you paid attention and learned, rather than try to teach through comments, you'd hear him say, clearly, that this is meant for Street Fights; and this will work in a street fight.
...i gotta say...it looks like your really hurting your partner there but...it seems really effective and your explanation is the best i've seen by far keep up the good work im going to teach my students this
lol instead of breaking your knee on someones face turn their head to the side and knee their temple turning them into a vegetable and or killing them....lol i like it
do i get this right:you drop your whole bodywheight into the kick?so you´re not only doing the kicking motion, but cause extra pressure/momentum by dropping yourself into the kick, right?
The way I was taught, it's not that you drop your weight on the kick. What you do is hop forward onto your lead leg into a position with your base foot turned to your outside and throw the rear side of your hip forward in a slightly lifted position. In that way, it's like plowing straight through in a crossing motion, not downward.-
- You also want to be sure to do this when your opponent's not expecting it and/or is caught off guard lest you get countered. For instance, if your opponent can read it in enough time to react, he/she may shift weight to that leg and lower his/her shoulder into you as, you're dashing forward with a hop onto one base leg which is in this case you're outside leg making that particular counter even more effective.
lol no that's to the temple donnie you'll kill him!
