This is a general question about curly hair. Can you die it. and my hair is the same as yours but in a bob at the moment and i really want to grow it !!! xx love all ur videos !! xx
I get a lot of single strand knots too. [3b] I usually prefer to trim the hair myself, because stylists always end up trimming more than I asked for and always want to blow out and flat iron my hair after the trim.
I'm a type 3 and i have an issue w single strand knots. Are they actually bad for your hair? I hear they just come w the curly hair territory and aren't damaging. Is that true?
@teraterakhan i think that's true--the hair always keeps growing just fine after the knot. :) i don't like the knots though because they make my hair feel coarse so i tend to cut them out.
@yessething1 another one is Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil replenishing deep conditioner. leaves my hair SO SOFT! I use it as leave in sometimes too, between washes I just wet the hair and use it on my ends.
@Missexcel7 From the comments on the video, apparently it's a pretty common thing for curly gals. It happens from wearing hair down in its natural state and having dry ends (which is pretty hard to avoid). The ends get dry and curl up on themselves, forming these knots. The best thing to do is to go through your hair periodically and try to cut a lot of them out. hope that helps :)
Thank you so much! I got my haircut today and I LOVE ouidad. Do you know about Ouidad, if not check it out, it's amazing. Anyway, I will try growing it out so it weighs it down, and I'll let you know how it works. Your hair is gorgeous!! You are an adorable girl and I love watching your videos!!! What are you studying in college? :)
@cupcakepuppylove890 Yes I have heard of Ouidad, just never tried it. So you got one of their cuts? I've always been curious... Currently the plan is to study psychology and spanish.
Hi ..I love your videos.. Your hair is gorgeous! I have curly hair as well, but it's different than yours as it is more corkscrew type curls ...and they grow out and it "pyramids". I've tried deva cuts, and it didn't work for me, and I tried ouidad but they are too expensive and didn't last. How can I grow out my hair and have it look good and stay curly ? any tips?
@cupcakepuppylove890 Hmmm how far did you grow your hair out? eventually the weight of the hair will weigh it down and get rid of the "pyramid" effect. You tried a devacut and it really didn't work? Usually that's great for making sure you get the shape you want out of your hair. In general you will want a haircut with long layers to prevent the curls from stacking up on each other, but not short layers, because that will add more volume than you want. Hope that helps!
I have curly hair, and I am mixed race, but my hair isn't afro. It's normal curly hair. It was very long when I was young, but I cut like an inch and a bit off and it has never grown back properly. Everyone says it will grow in time, but I am trying to do everything I can, I take primrose oil and I use Aussie shampoo and conditioner, are they cool for all us curly's??
@maybieber14 Yes they are cool. :) I checked out your profile, and you do have a really tight curl pattern; I think you will have to be patient and try not to get haircuts too often!
To be honest i dont have to look very hard what so ever for dead ends, my hair is sooooo dry and super curly, if i get it cut ill have to gt alot of it cut off D: because of dead ends, i keep telling my mom i need a hair cut, and she tells me we will go tommorow... yeah 2 months later, still no hair cut! gee, thanks mom love you too :/
P.s for people who are asking your hair should grow about half and inch a month in average , so 6 inches a year. But my curly hair only grows around 2-3 inches a year! But my best friends hair grew almost 4 inches this summer ! And we have the same hair. So it all depends.
@143Dabomb that's their curl type. do a google search or check out my video about curl types. for growing your hair, just be patient and follow the tips in this video!
@sweetcatracha2009 hmmm well I have 3b hair, so our hair is pretty different. there's a great section in the second edition of Curly Girl: The Handbook for wavy hair.
I've gone to the same hairstylist basicly my whole life and to be honest, she's not very good. BUT I can't switch stylist becuase I feel like i'm betraying her! I can't do that to her. And I'll feel bad lol so yeah, i don't know what to do
I have about Mid-back length hair about 3 long layers. I want to let it grow longer but I get horrible knots especially around the neck area. That I even had to cut a small knott out! Do you believe if I get more layers well shorter about shoulder length and down less knotts will accure?(:
@MitchieMouse77 I'm not sure if layers will help--i think my hair is the same detangling despite the kind of layers. How often do you get haircuts? I find that if I try to grow my hair out by skipping trims, I get really bad knots too. More knots accompany long hair though--it's the price you have to pay. You might try wearing your hair in protective styles more too--braids and buns--that will help prevent so many knots at the neck from the hair rubbing on things.
I have type four hair and I always have single strand knots, they are really frustrating. Here is a tip, I have never tried it though, use a safety pin to untangle the knots. Also I like to use finger comb my hair and I smooth conditioner onto my strands and then when I get to a tangle I just smooth more conditioner on them. You have very pretty hair and that style looks kute on you (:
when i get my hair trimmed, what should i say to the lady? should i just tell her not to wash my hair? im pretty sure what she uses has silicones in it and my mom soesnt know im using the curly girl method so i dont know what to do.
@shrimpydinkey you can bring your own products; you can say it's allergies or just that you're particular. :) i've done that before. and you can just tell her you shampoo every other day or something like that, and today's your off day. but in all honesty one silicone/sulfate kick isn't bad for your hair as long as you clarify and go back to your routine. :)
@misstheresadiaz If you google "curl type" you get a better result. Type 1 is straight hair. Type 2 is wavy. Type 3 is curly. Most of them are divided into subsections. 3a is looser curls and 3b is tighter ringletly ones. Type 4 hair is kinky. hope that helps! :)
what kind of products do you recommend if your live in Houston and my hair gets really frizzy ugh because its very humid here! :( i have your type of hair and well i tried a lot of products and none have work! Help please
@unknowdora I recommend a sulfate free shampoo, a moisturizing conditioner, leaving in some of that conditioner, and a hard hold gel! The products I use are on my profile and you should google "the curly girl method". hope that helps!
for a long time i thought the single strand knots were like split ends but your hair split in the middle of the shaft or w/e....so weird. i get them and i usually have a lot because my curly are to my waist. still growing! goal length is to my bum or hips. :D i recently am boycotting my straightener because it kind of took away some of my curl... i'm washing every day, using a great conditioner(that even enhances my red color) scrunching, my hair feels great... :D
@Baykins Well, yeah if you're poking through the ends you're probably gonna get a bit disheveled. That's why you do this when you don't have to go out anymore. ;)
Hey,can you do a review on the Ouidad products and the Wen products. Are they as good as the sound. Will they help make my hair beautiful curls. And are they curly girl approved. If you could do a review and then a tutorial that would be awesome. thanks
@segarmini55 I don't think Ouidad is completely CG. I just found a good blog post, and Wen is definitely not CG. So both of the full lines are not curly girl approved--which means I wont review them, sorry. There are lots of better, high-end lines for curlies. :)
i just moved to to a dry climate and my hair is reacting weird what moisturizer do you reccomend? (any cheap drug store brand) and also what is a cheap stong hold gel? And is it only me that my underneath hairs tend to lay flat?
To reduce split ends I just put alittle baby oil on the ends as soon as I get out the shower.and I heard just conditioning ur curly hair is a rly good way to keep it moistured.great vid by the way! Wat vitamins are u taking??
@zizyi yes that would help! Straightening your hair causes damage from the heat. Weaker hair tends to break more often. If you straighten it too much, it wont even grow for some people...
I'm sorry I didn't catch the name of the vitamins you used to get your hair to grow. and are the pills like giant horse pills or are they a reasonable size? cause I can't get myself to swallow those half an inch to an inch ones...even if i cut them in half
In the last couple of weeks I've seen 3 single strand knots.... I never had them before (as far as I know), and it looks soo weird :S But before I went CG I never paid a lot of attention to my ends. I would notice that I had split ends and that it was time for a trim, but I never picked out a curl and checked the ends like I do now sometimes.

ughhh! I get those single strand knots on my hair too! I have type 3b/3c hair and I get those darn ss-knots only on the hairs closest to the back of my neck
Awesome video!!! I fell for that "trim myth" a lot and regret listening to budget stylists! i made the mistake of letting a stylist "layer" my hair with a razor clipper... now i have really short layers all around.
Have you or anyone had good results with the shampoo and conditioner "mane and tail?"

Have you or anyone had good results with the shampoo and conditioner "mane and tail?"

@delectalicious i've never tried them. ohh razors next to my hair would scare me. 0.0

great video! I'm going to have to try some hair vitamins. oh, I also have type 3a/b hair and I get the knots too.

Also, what about jojoba oil as a conditioning treatment?

Should I cut my hair to get rid of the bleach or use an all over color?
mldavis79 1 year ago
@mldavis79 if the bleached sections are unhelathy, cut them off. otherwise, just do an all over color i say.

I have naturally curly hair, too, and I'm trying to get rid of highlights, yet grow out my hair.
