I hate Maria, and I hate James... And I feel terribly sorry for Mary... =( And the fact that she actually apologized to James for "what she did"... SHE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!! She just got sick, it wasn't her fault... James is an asshole.... And Maria is the Devil.... >=(
i'd say that this is the ONLY game where i truly felt anything for the characters, but i felt ALOT in this one game. silent hill 2 truly is a masterpiece.
i love the way this ending shows he has to go through all silent hill again, as when maria coughs, its ment to represent that she has marys disease, and that the events of silent hill will be repeated because james didnt learn his lesson
This ending was amazing. It made the entire game worth it. That letter was one of the most emotional things I've ever heard in a game. But why am I bothering to reply to you, anyway? You're probably just a troll. I don't like the music being added to it, takes away from the impact of the letter... oh well, though.
No, he has a point. This was a horrible ending. In this ending, James learned nothing, and he lost his love for Mary, and fell in love with a temptress bitch who hated him.
Not to mention that Maria isn't real, he is talking with an illusion of what he wants Mary to be. Which is basically saying that he's forgotten Mary and doesn't love her anymore.
He killed his wife a second time to immerse himself into an illusion.
I agree too-I don't like this ending either. It is way too uniform and predictble in a way. You get no emotional impact from this part-james learns nothing-its just a genuinly terrible ending. Him talking to mary is key. Because this adds poignoance to the letter being read. For me the best endings are "Leave" because james manages to take mary's advice of moving on through this tragedy and live his life. it is essentially the perfect happy ending
I think in the water is more emotionally impactful.James couldn't move on-he didn't the will power without her-which makes the letter worse especially when she goes on to say "thats why I want you to live for yourself now" because you know its too late.This ending is actually kinda more upsetting then in the water-cause he continues to live on with a delusion that'll just eventually make him repeat his behavior again (hence the coughing) I guess thats the point,but it just doesn't click with me.
This made me cry as a kid. Just, pouring tears. I felt so bad for Mary.
