I love whenever I'm watching British films, the same actors in Pirates, Harry Potter, and some Tim Burton movies show up. *coughhelenabonhamcartercoughcoughgeoffreyrushcoughcoughtimothyspallcoughhack*
1:22; what would be interesting to know is, where and when he had earned all those medals that, ribbon next to ribbon and row upon row, are on his uniform. He was born in 1895, therefore too young (19) to have fought in WW-1, during which he'd had a midshipman grade and spent most of the time in hospital for stomach disorders. Aside from this minutia, all my respect to his memory: he was a great king, really a symbol for his country.
@edup12 I've always loved British history and literature. It seems there's been more written about Edward and Wallace Simpson so this was a story that needed to be told, and it was told so well. I'm going to have to buy the movie as soon as it's on DVD!
Interesting to see the differences between the UK trailer and the US version. In the UK, Elizabeth says 'And what is my husband were the Duke of York?' whereas in the US it is 'And what is my husband were the King?' The UK version is what is said in the film, but of course Americans are unlikely to know how Bertie became King. In addition the scene dealing with Wallis Simpson is missing from the US version - for obvious reasons!
I get so happy when Colin win the G.G last sunday. I have stammer too cause i'm shy and is hard even more here in Latinoamerica: there's a lot of awful jokes and the people already think that you are a retard person. I love the movie i wish the oscar for Colin.
This film was simply BRILLIANT. It has everything, and most importantly, some quite mesmerising performances. A must-see for any true film fan, and anyone intelligent enough to look beyond sex, guns and blowing shit up.
Perhaps you will be moved by LOU LOU the Stuttering Boxer I! It was the price of The King's Speech lunch budget... SAVE IT ON NETFLIX under it's title RevoLOUtion -it will help us w/ finishing $!!! It's already on there but not avail... we released it experimentally (free)in NY/LA, now i'm tweaking it, hopefull shooting two more scenes in spring 2011 - I look forward to your comments - and if you like you can comment on the additional scenes we are shooting at facebook under LOU LOU
Just saw this film today... Would recommend it to anyone with a brain-cell. Beautiful film, and if Colin Firth doesn't win the Oscar for this, it will be a travesty.
@terry1261 Yes. Before "Bertie" became King George VI he was the Duke of York. He only became king because his older brother abdicated so that he could marry a twice-divorced woman (Wallace Simpson). Plus his brother had nazi sympathies so he wouldn't have made much of a king anyway,
I waited weeks to see this. All the press were promoting this around Thanksgiving. It FINALLY came to a theater near me (Detroit area) on Christmas day. What a fabulous film. Great story. Some big laughs. And whileI'm a big Colin Firth fan anyway so I might be slightly biased but I believe he WILL get a Oscar for this role. Well Done!
I saw this movie Christmas Day here in the US in a packed movie theater. Got a rousing round of applause when the ending credits came on the screen. It was fabulous. Colin Firth is amazing as the Duke of York.
website lieing it says playing everywhere on December 22 and before movie commercial it says playing everywhere Christmas Day.It's an obvious lie it's not playing everywhere in Canada.I checked with the Cineplex theatre in my city and they don't have it on their schedule. My Mum and I really want to see the The King's Speech so make sure to distribute the movie everywhere in Canada.George VI was King of Canada too.

oh wow.... the glorious king george!....king of the dominions of great britain and the self-proclaimed "emperor of india" was actualy a stuttering pasty-faced english limey pussy milksop who couldnt be torn away from his mothers teats.....lol
One renounced his duty and gave up his people because of a woman, spending his time in tropical idleness. The other stayed and did his duty, and stood by his people through bombs and deprivations.
Why then is Edward VII always romanticised, while George VI never gets his due? Maybe this movie will help redress this injustice.
Another excellent trailer for The King's Speech. I may like this one even better. Cannot wait to see the film and to watch the movie and all involved collect lots of awards,
I once read a biography on King George VI, couldn't help crying.
The man was totally miserable, but not a fault of his own making. Having a torturing childhood, abusive parent& siblings, he was saved only by his loving wife & kids.
I heard Firth performed well. CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT.
Please do somebody knows whoes is the music starts in 0:26? In the movie there is some Beethoven music but this is different ...
