six mallet grip is similar to 4 mallet, but on most pieces, i do 5 mallets. 3 in my left, 2 in my right. but with 6 mallets, you dont have much of a range to manoeuvre.
This humble gentleman plays for tips around Cabo. I live in Alaska and while there asked if could play Tico Tico with him. He obliged and we even got applause. His xylo naturals are a little misplaced. Don't know how he does it. Keyboard attached to table legs and stands it straight up to move it around town.Mallets are rubber and very sticky from the heat. Wish i were rich, would buy him a marimba. He plays by "ear" and can play most anything. Fun time!
Are you people retarded!? That is by all means, not easy to play... If you put a fully orchestrated symphony playing prokofieff next to a rock band blaying an 8-bar blues, nobody would pay attention to the symphony. Seriously, you kids need to listen to something other than a 1-chord song.
I actually think its easy...but thats just me, i've been playing mallet percussion instruments for 5 years now, and it doesn't take very long to actually learn whichever instrument(Marimba, Xylophone, Vibraphone, Bells, Etc.)neither..... honestly the people are just giving their opinion....and by means i think they have the right to....
That's a real-deal dude playing a real-deal instrument. I can't quite tell but I'm pretty sure that's a Chapinlandia... predecessor to the modern marimba and native of central america. Respect.
what's awesome aout this? e's just playing xylophon. and not very fast or entertaining in any other way. if that was awesome then the people would gather around and not ignore him.
First of all this is a marimba, and the guy IS rather impressive. In music, we don't just value virtuosity. There are many other aspects that determine a good performance. Just because people are too busy rushing through their so called "vacation" to notice doesn't mean he's not good. Kudos to the person that took the time to listen and shot the video.
First of all, it is not a marimba, it is a xylophone...A xylophone's keys are the same width throughout the instrument....and a marimba's keys increase in size, the lower the sound is.....
I saw a guy like this in cabo too..

I wouldn't call this impressive. He looks like a tourist who stumbled upon some weired Xylo Marimba thing and just started banging on incessently.
