  • Actually, the mountain music called Bluegrass came mostly from Scotch-Irish settlers. Mississippi is about 65 percent Scots-Irish as it is called nowadays.

  • We did invent the 'shine, only we call it Potín (poteen). Translates from the Gaelige as 'painstripper'... Nah, I'm kiddiing, but last time I had it, couldn't see 'til morning. Sadly I'm a stranger to the fifth string, but still wish I could put this much bounce and style into my playing. Earl Scruggs certainly was a pioneer.

  • no matter how u flick the pick, the bottom line is bluegrass came from the poor Irish folk..the only exception is the folk in MS. and LS.. they can claim the trumpet!! HaHa...shittt the Irish invented moon shine!

  • @polmaccaba fiddle tunes & bluegrass aren't the same things in most people's eyes.

  • @polmaccaba hell yeah. My family is part irish and i can remember sittin on my granddad's porch listenin to him pick a banjo and passin around a mason jar of shine. Those were the good ol days
