I don’t know what age you are but at the time the Beatles weren’t regarded as part of the scene no matter what the media might have tried to portray. They were cool but basically it was your weekend hippies that thought they were special.
I love the hippie message of peace and music and love for one another, but drugs were the wrong way to try and be spiritual. They can alter your mind, but alter it in a way in which it's harder to reach God. Free love and sex wasn't good either, a lot of transmitting of viruses and lust can take over the mind that way, and make it hater to realize the spiritual world. George Harrison saw that. Anyways, it was a great movement except it wasn't as spiritual as advertised...
"Hippies" were simply people trying to find a better way to live. Cooperation instead of competition. Love instead of hate. Peace instead of violence. Compassion instead of judgement. We tried to let everyone find their own way - true freedom. Drugs and sex had little to do with it.
I lament that we did not accomplish more, but I celebrate that we accomplished a lot. The spirit of compassion and love will live on - no matter what name people choose to give it.

As a hippie myself I recommend "The Young Ones" and "The Libertine" (just a wild selection), of an atheist who trashes religion for the sake of reason. Aside from hippies look up its evolution, like the Renaissance and the Deists how they promoted "peace", real peace is hard it's still today we never find real peace.

I guess people just mix up the term hippie. I like the more traditional way of going about it. A hippie is someone who lives and lets live...they don't hassle people and hope for the same. Peace loving, kind in nature. Anyone can be a hippy...In fact, before these new age hippies, the biker image was popular among them! Look at all the Angels that did security for the dead!

Hippie's were created by the media...look at Ken Kesey and The Merry Pranksters. Always dressing in red white and blue, no long hair, no long beards...they were the first link between the beatniks and the hippies of the 60's. Then the media hyped it up and hippies were born. 1.They are lazy
2.They hate the American way, if you don't like the way it is, get the hell out and never come back, go work in some Chinese sweatshop; suppoting gays and socialism is not "enlightened", it's just terrible. We set our American values, don't try so hard to change them.

I remember people bitching about how we were fighting in the Iraqi wars, when we were partially after oil; so what, that means we had a valid reason to fight (besides we never finished Iraq in the 90's). Also, I'm confused why so many people complained when we killed him, he killed plenty of people. I'm glad he fried.
