  • The actress who played Annik in the film was way hotter than the real life Annik haha

  • Man I wish I could DANCE LIKE THIS! Go Sam Riley!!!! (XD)

  • something about him swaying to the bass makes all my hairs stand up at the back of my neck..

  • @SonnyJmSonnyJm hey man at 1:54 he looks exactly like Ian. scary! =)

  • @SonnyJmSonnyJm touche.

  • i agree. and also he sings better than transmission ..the joy division piss takes

  • I love this song. Its great Fucking BAD. I love it.

  • want this song at my funeral

  • I'm 15 years old I think this is such a brilliant band and movie.

  • @gpd784 that wasnt dancing.. Ian Curtis jad a mental disorder. He had epileptic seizures, and it mostky happend when he was dancing... READ BEFORE COMMENTING

  • @pamcartney Wrong dude in November 1979 Ian Curtis made his only public comment on his dancing and performance. He explained the dance as a type of sign language for the lyrics : "Instead of just singing about something you could show it as well, put it over in the way that it is, if you were totally involved in what you were doing".

  • @pamcartney You dont have seisures while dancing, you moron. If you're having a seizure, you're on the ground skitzing out, to put it bluntly.

  • @pamcartney I assume, you have the wrong end of the stick. the seizure is at the end. The dance at the start is dancing.

  • I love french fries.

After he fell on the floor he was totally dancing like crazy! I think the dance was called the Grand Mal or the Crazy Monkey or something like that. Is there a video of him doing a back flip?

  • Ehhh.. Anton didn't really do the band justice in this movie. A big component of Joy Division's sound (hell, most Northern English artists in the late 70's/early 80's) was the surrounding scenery. RIP Tony.

  • The film makers really captured the shamanistic strangeness of Ian Curtis in this re-creation. Very good film.

  • @Pihasanddunes1 this film messed up everything about the band... a big shit for deaf people. Sad story.

  • Where's the AUDIO????

  • @redtron Are you deaf?

  • We are joy division good night

  • FUCK ANAUK WHAT A PEICE OF SHIT..SHE DIDNT EVEN REALIZE HE WAS HAVIN A SEIZURE!!IMSURE DEB WOULD HAVE BEEN RIGHT THERE!!!!

  • @tiffani187 Well you can't blame her, what could she have done, make the seizure go away?? Run upp on stage??

  • @UnderTheStars94 i just think shes a peice of shit... she didnt love himlike he loved her...

  • @tiffani187 I think the word "Love" starts to lose it's meaning when it's thrown around so loosely these days. You could say "You love french fries" or "unicorns" or whatever. I think what happened with Ian was that he steadily lost interest in his wife while on the road with the band. I think all he could see was the music and nothing else, you know what I mean?

  • Gott ist tot. Rest at ease Ian.

  • To think, its modern days there, and there was no effective or proper medicine. Its a shame, it killed the most amazing of people:(

  • brilliant in so many ways, this performance

  • this was a good movie but I have to agree that the actor sounds nothing like Ian Curtis. But I guess he was picked on his acting skills than his ability to sing like Ian. The actors playing the band did a good job playing the music but I think everyone can agree joy division's music was not that complicated and with a little practice almost anyone can pick up the guitar, bass and drum parts.

  • @pinkfrost89 drums are pretty hard i'd say

  • Comment removed

  • I made the chorus a ringtone a few months ago!

  • ...amazing performance...

  • Good cover, but Sam has not so deep voice as Ian had... Actually... still amazing performance... Sam is really very good actor.

  • @e6e2e3e1 Sam's versions of the songs remind me somewhat of the Doors' Jim Morrison; perhaps I'm being biased, but putting my mega-crush on Sam aside, Sam and the band have a more polished sound. JD were rawer sounding, IMO. That's neither a compliment nor a criticism btw. Just my take on it... It also doesn't mean I'm favouring the movie versions of the songs over the originals!

  • @scotsburd63 They're probably more refreshing to the modern eye. The movie ones I mean. I love the Control versions so much, along with the JD versions of course.

  • @renr17 Hi - yeah, I see where you're coming from! Like yourself, I love both versions of the songs and I am spoilt for choice! :) I have to say I was a little disappointed however to note that on the Control Soundtrack the movie version is only featured on one song! I wish they would've released all of the movie version songs on one album!

  • @scotsburd63 Like a finished Isolation, and a finished Insight. I know, I know lol.

  • if sam riey had the lyrical and musical skills.. damn... he would be skyrocketing right now... but 10,000 things ... i youtubed his band... oh boy, he really sucked :-/ hate to say, but he did. but damn, his performance being ian curtis, shit, and that is his real voice, .. he got talent.

  • this performance is fuckin brilliant

    he's got a big voice

he could pull it off better than new order

& the dance was more than fantastic acting

    but yea

no1 'll replace to good old legend Ian although this is

more than a worthy tribute to the man

  • Lol what the fuck is this shit?!

  • @outlawjumper

Just what the fuck. They're at a fucking gig. With barriers, and security presumably.. What the fuck should she have done, she couldn't have helped, it doesn't help an epilleptic whilst fitting if people are running at them screaming and shit. Fucking think, dumbass. And don't try and get all poetic with song lyrics, just makes you look like a prick

  • One reason why I love JD,

not that much people know about them.

    :D

  • R.I.P. Ian.

  • His girlfriend just stood there, while he was lying on the fucking ground.

Is that what you called love?

Is that worth the song Love will tear us apart?

If ur girlfriend dont even wanted to help Ian..

    :/

  • pwnd

  • poor ian

    lo que sufrio

    rest in peace

  • I have yet to see this film--how did I miss it??!!

Still, it captures something most people who have never fronted a band will never understand: on stage you are alone.

No matter how tight you may be with your band mates, no matter how many allies you have in the audience, all that exists is the music and what it does to you.

Ian Curtis was the embodiment of that dark phenomena

  • omgomgomg poor kid. I saw it on limited run at the Film Forum in the village. I am not sure where else it played...most indie cinemas Id imagine...

  • @EAU2007 -- Um, i thought you said you haven't seen the film.... How can you tell what it captures?

  • @francast404 this actor is verstile you idiot

  • fuck you

  • 個人的には、Dead Soulsが一番好きです。 one of most my fave song @j.d

  • i NEEd a full version of this..

    this sounds waytoo good

or does any1 hzve a complete original studio version?

  • he's made himself a legend

    acting like this

he really did a nice job honoring the real ian i think

  • This scene makes me fill up...

  • It's terrifying how good Sam Riley is playing Ian Curtis. Especially how he is dancing. Suprerior Film!

  • Comment removed

  • And to think that in real life he actually married the Romanian actress. Damn.

  • Wow, It is so raw. Awesome.

  • am so in love with this guy

  • Sam Riley got Curtis so right in the film. Hooky is less than sympathetic after Ian's seizure!

  • Thank you so much for the mp3's!

  • aah :) i'm also 17 and joy division are my favourite band, this is such a moving film, this part makes me really sad. fucking brilliant acting :)

  • @Laurencakes007 yeah WE'RE ALL 17 !!!!

  • @Laurencakes007 There's just something about those eyes... It's like he's almost dead but he keeps on fighting. He's fighting himself and doesn't want to give up. At least that's how I feel most of the time.

  • @Laurencakes007 Nirvana's my favorite band but Joy Division makes me want to question that lol! Joy Division's my second favorite, but still... =)

  • @Kento617

That's funny. Nirvana used to be my favorite band until I discovered Joy Division.

  • genius.

  • This is definitely Sam's best song in the film.

  • first time i watched this movie it was on TV and on the next channel they had an actual biography about J.D. so i was pretty much stoked on everything!!. loved joy division since i heard Disorder & Digital

  • I just became 17, but I really admire his work and love Joy Division.

    R.I.P Ian.

  • sam riley does a wicked job

  • very moving film and moving clip!!!! A tragedy of a musical genius!!!

  • As a person suffering from epilepsy and also a huge J.D. fan, let you know a couple things. Usual trigger for epileptic episode begins with a deja vu visual or smell typically, but not by bright lights. This puts the person into a memory loop as the brain attempts to locate the deja vu, hence the space look a person with focal seizure. This then can grow into an electrical discharge by the brain that cannot be controlled, i.e. a fit. There is also so much more...

  • TIMMY

  • chopboy09... you are so right... i LOVE jd, 24 hour party peoplw was good for insight into that whole musical era. ian had a tough gig. married young.. (perhaps musicians shouldnt marry..) but i think the flashy lights from being on stage made the episodes of epilepsy worse... poor guy. its like lennon. what could we all have had the pleasure of hearing if they were still with us?

  • Awesome!

  • control

  • When you have THAT naturally, you do not need anything else.

  • shut up you twat.

  • I WANT YOUR DEAD!

  • FINALLY-i thought i was only one who was disappointed by it

  • i thought as a film it was ok and the lead did a good job of ian but this band sounds so awful to me... not like JD at all. weak imitation... shit listen to the real dead souls by JD it kicks major ass

  • what's the name of the film.

  • The movie was outstanding. It won several awards at Cannes. Don't know what you didn't see that you wanted to see. Maybe Lethal Weapon 4 is more your style.

It was a very good movie. I wouldn't say it was "great", but I would recommend it to friends. It is by far the best Joy Division movie out there.

  • how many joy division movies are there?

  • How many movies? Not sure. Control is great, and the first that I think is only about JD. The only other one I know of is "24 Hour Party People," but the focus was the management and their bands, and not Joy Division.

    Hope this helps.

  • it does help cheers mate

  • Sick, but interesting

  • I recently posted a video with Ian Curtis's "unseen lyics" found in the book Touching From a Distance.

  • i like the NiN version (am a nin fan, go figure), but heard it's just a cover. Then i came to this flick... and figured out this is goddamn awesome. Gonna check out more of them soon.

  • a stranger to reality

  • sam riley really pays tribute to ian in this movie

  • Ian Curtis = Brilliant.

Completely steals the show and then has a Grand Mal seizure and the fans are like WTF? Was that part of show?

He left us well before his time.

  • This song is about telemarketers.

Yes. a stupid joke but admit you smiled.

  • They keep calling me!

  • @Crossbowman we heard him.

  • Haha, good one.

  • @michaeltgrace yes, i did. see..... :-)

  • love this dance.

  • best fucking movie ever(:

  • espantando fantasmas

  • Dancing lesson number one.

  • nin covered this song (and did a bad job)

  • I thought the NIN cover was good.

  • Comment removed

  • The NIN cover was awesome

  • yes.

  • Dude I can't keep going around You Tube all day schooling little busters on how the originals are definitive. This is genius and NIN... well not quite.

  • I am sorry but I beg to differ, i dont care whether this is the original or not. I prefer the NIN version.

  • You're right you do need to appologize and it's apparent that you don't care about having good taste in music. If you prefer the NIN version comment on that page. There's nothing wrong with the NIN version except that it's not this version. Noob.

  • I know its not this version jesus christ what is up with people on youtube, I am not saying i dont like this version all I am saying is I prefer the Nine Inch Nails version so get used to it and stop moaning I dont give a crap if you think joy division are legendary or whatever i purely dont like this version as much.

  • You said "noob." Do you realize how silly and pretentious that makes you look?

  • no. do you know how pretentious it sounds telling someone they're pretentious?

  • WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY

  • i don't see how just because it's a cover, that it automatically sucks. for the crow, the nin cover...well it fits, just like moby's cover of new dawn fades was perfect for heat (also a good song in it's own right). besides, it coulda been worse-the execs could have had marylin manson do the cover....

  • No. They Covered It. And Didn't Make A Good Job In My Opinion...

  • FUCK OFF

  • IS FUCK OFF your real name?

So your name must be HUITZEL FUCK OFF.

    Change it.....to HUITZEL MOFO..

    sounds better...

  • whoever directed "twenty-four hour party people was fuckin stupid to not give Sam the role as ian curtis...he looks just like him!

  • lol nice dancing

  • he was famous for it

  • he was epileptic.

  • this guy are awesome

  • ignore d-bag garyeberly916.

  • he stole my dance!!!

  • anik understood ian better than debbie.

but debbie loved ian more than she did

  • why does he dance like that?

  • is that ian wife or ian affier girlfriend

  • thats annick his affare girl friend his wife was debra

  • You know...it sucks because they came out with better medications for treating epilepsy only months after his death. I know this sounds kind of morbid, but if he hadn't killed himself and had access to those meds, I wonder if he'd still be around.

Granted, he had other issues going on with his life, but I wonder how much his epilepsy contributed to his problems and if he could have made his way out of his depression.

    But I guess we'll never know...too bad...he was a fucking genius.

  • yes he was. yes he was.

  • He was absolutely genius. It really is to bad. In this movie they showed how much of a moron his doctor was. It possibly could have been the meds that did lead him to his death. Mixing medications could of easily contributed to his depression. It's such a loss, to not only the musical world; but the world in general. Poor Debra.

I wonder if he stuck around; how different music would be. We probably wouldn't have boy band crap and rap.

  • ian curtis was a genius....fucking amazing scene......this is my favoirite song

    calling meeeeeeeee........

  • Really, what exactly made him a genius?

  • Just listen to Atmosphere than youll have nomore questions

  • I did, and it changed nothing. Please do me a favor and don't tell me the equivalent to 'If I don't like your taste in music then I must be stupid' because that shit's pretty childish. So he had a distinct sound, that doesn't constitute 'genius'. Kurt Cobain was hardly a genius.

  • why dont you go listen to some yanni fag boy

  • Hahha, you responded exactly like I thought you would, immature, stupid and no class. I bet your family is very proud of you. You sound just like the same idiots who idolized Kurt Cobain and called him a genius. Poor poor Kurt couldn't handle success, married a whore, and killed himself..what a man... You're just another unoriginal loser with unoriginal taste, go climb a tree, crack monkey.

  • whats your beef with kurt cobain bro i didnt say anything about him and joy division is a whole diffrent band diffrent sound diffrent everything.

  • Cobain, like Curtis, clearly couldn't handle success, took the easy way out by snuffing themselves and left wives and children behind, and leaving fans acting like they were saints, geniuses and all around god-like entertainers, which they were not. They had an original sound for the time they were that, move on.

  • Ian Curtis is one of my favourite lyricists, genius or not. I can read his lyrics from a page, with no music playing, and still be touched by them. There's not many musical lyricists that I can say that about. This is all my personal opinion. Maybe, when it comes to art, genius (I'm not fond of the word myself) is in the eye of the beholder.

  • I'm not found of the word either. I remember a 'self help' guru, Dr. Wayne Dyer giving a speech on tv one day and he went on and on how 'each one of you is a genius in your own way'...ugh.. I agree with you, it's in the eye of the beholder

  • garyeberly916 please go find a hobby, it is our opinion that joy division are the dogs bollocks now what that has to do with u i dont have a fucking clue. sort it out ey?

  • Good lord, did you finish any kind of schooling to come up with a lame sentence you just happene to type? Hey, get over yourself. Free forum limey. If you want to be a thought Nazi like Dr. Phil, then acquire your own TV show where everyone must agree without otherwise kiss my ass. Translation for you, Kiss my bollocks.

  • yeah a decent amount of schooling.. this is the second comment i ever wrote on utube, id rather not get involved but u annoy me lots, american i presume? i appreiciate you dnt like JD but why do u feel u have to write your comments here, heres an idea..go post a message about a band you actually do like,

  • Sure why not, I really enjoy Catherine Wheel, which happened to originate from Jolly ol' England and yep, I'm American. Go ahead and make a 'yank' crack. At lease we don't have a reputation for terrible food, lousy built cars and no frickin queen.

  • hahaha im sorry. terrible food? u guys live on processed shit...u cunts dont even have real cheese it comes from tubes. I dont even think america have a national dish, u live on burgers and shit outta packets. lousy build cars? meh, least ours can actually go round corners, they wernt all that bad either. Name one good handling, reliable and doesnt drink an entire gas station every 3 miles. and for fuck sake lisen to some joy division will u

  • pfft, we used to make minis, rolls royce, bentlys. anyway can i just listen to joy division now?

  • i dont intend to make any 'yank' crack because most americans are good people, theres just a few like you who think thier gods gift that spoil it a bit, i cannot believe u chose food and cars to highlight englands bad points!! a tad hypocritical...and we do have a queen..

  • Not much of a comeback but it was better than that JohnnyXsniper twit.

  • oh go fuk ursel u piece of shit yank. u probably obsess over country and western

  • Did you graduate from any kind of school? I'm guessing no. You clearly can't spell, you clearly have no idea what grammar is and if you think I would take an idiot like you seriously who can't even communicate, then you're more stupid than you appear. Stupid chave trash.

  • Why talk down on all americans or English? Both countries have ups and downs about them. Bu musically those are the two biggest contributers to rock music. But both places have a large amount really cgood musicians, but both have an even laerger amount of crap to match. Both the English and the U.S. rule as much as they suck when it comes to music. So save the bullshit. Spice Girls was a terrible gift that nearly destroyed both countires. lol

  • Sam Riley's Ian Curtis dancing is pretty spot on. This film is fantastic...this scene broke my heart.

  • I want to know if I can buy this on DVD. Wouldn't mind watching it.

  • This makes me want to cry whenever i see it D:

Poor ol' Ian Curtis... The genius died so young.

  • how I wish he's still here... he is a great lyricist, and I like he's vision in this curel world.

  • this is fucking amazing

    this movie is awesome!!

  • That's so sad

  • I love this song. *-*

  • I just love the whole album "Closer"; it's fucking genius.

  • great scene!

  • For me, one of the best bands of all time.

    It doesn
