I recently saw a public service propaganda ad about domestic violence that was so condemning of violence towards women and children(girls) by men. It portrayed the woman as the default victim of DV and the girls as future seductresses of violent men and that boys who were victims epitomized such tragedy due to their potential future harm onto other women and girls.
I punched a brick wall for 5 straight minutes. The only saving grace is that I broke my skin and bled for myself and no one else.
One lovely contradiction that came to mind recently is the "Pay-gap" when also thinking of dating. In one of your videos you spoke of how society values women more than men and how this higher value has been the cause of much of the lack of freedom that women have experienced in history. It made a lot of sense but one thing confuses me: if humans have always valued women more, why do almost all cultures attach a dowry to women? Parents worry about having too many girls because they won't be able to pay the dowries to marry them off. Why don't they pay the daughter's family to take the male?

Gender socialization is a result of the biological factors though, like no one socializes women to being physically weaker or slower, no one socializes the neurological components in men and women or the hormones that govern them thereby. Socialization reinforces gender and is caused by it, not vice versa. However attempting to suggest binary gender is a social construct is in itself a social construct and very harmful.

@girlwriteswhat I also hate repetitive tasks. Try finding some audio books you want to listen to and listen to them while doing repetitive tasks. Two birds with one stone. Works for me sometimes. It is best for me to listen to something I really want to learn that I am going to listen to over and over again. That way if I lose concentration or something I know I am gonna hear it again anyway.

Well the way I look at it, is that male and female binary gender is always going to exist but the process of prenatal development doesnt always go according to plan. People have complications all the time, even some small like the hammertoe. While technically, a male should be born thinking and acting like a male it doesnt always happen and likewise for women. But I don't think they are two ideas that can't be reconciled - no one thinks gender is completely a social construct, everyone has to admit that at least some things (hormones etc) are related to biology, but the main point is that much of gender is socially constructed and it has to be challenged where it is damaging. In any case, saying that feelings are 'socialised' doesn't mean that they aren't 'real'.
I'm not sure either that feminism could have taken root in anything but a post industrial economy. The way I see it, a service economy like this, which sure as hell isn't terribly healthy, isn't doing women any actual favors in the long haul. So in essence, if men have evolved to kill and build, while women serve and nurture, where's the change?. How many women in the audience want to haul shingles up onto a roof? I personally found changing diapers to be more pleasant, and I'm pretty strong.
Men act out when they can't handle being machines. If you treat a fish like an earthworm, it'll die. Hunting and fishing are impossible tasks for machines, so how can we expect men to be machines? I will tell you some good news, however: alot of guys I talk to around where I live are quite aware of what you're talking about. They know they're being shafted and mistreated. They know there's great prejudice against men in the West at least. But they feel powerless to do anything.

Totalitarian movements also impose collective punishments on their victims, and feminist Western laws in divorce courts and, to a slightly lesser extent, the other branches of the judicial systems, definitely impose collective punishment on men in the form of alimony and unfavorable treatment for men.
But that is not what happens when you explain this to feminists. No, you get shrieking accusations of misogyny, personal attacks, and a blanket refusal to deal with verifiable facts in any form. Or, worse yet, you get feminists openly saying that men don't matter, that they are not human beings and therefore don't deserve human rights.
Make no mistake: feminism is a hate movement that is totalitarian in nature, since all movements that make people into "non-persons" are totalitarian.
Well, the real problem is that feminists are totally intellectually dishonest. You can tell them that 80% of homeless people are men, that 93% of prisoners are men, that 95% of workplace deaths are men, that 80+% of suicide victims are men, but that won't change her views one bit. She'll say "But women are oppressed because of...". Even if you accept the validity of feminists' complaints, the statistics I mentioned should at least convince feminists that men are oppressed too.

If there are no differences between men and women then why do I feel such discomfort from my current body and hormonal levels? If there were no differences why am I not happy with my body? @AlassandraIsMyName The gender image is roughly based off the gender roles that we had to abide by to provide maximum survivability. The image of what a man is and isn't still is held today despite having no practicality. I would surmise that you hate your body and your own self image because you were made to feel bad about yourself because your behavior wasn't in keeping with society's idea of what a woman is and by looking the part you're acting, you feel more natural.

That is exactly as I see it. The brain/mind is a complex thing. Being an effeminate man or a masculine woman might seem like the same thing to some people, but it really isn't. I'd like to see it as a collection of switches. While you may have some of the "masculine" switches turned on in your brain, you certainly don't have the switches that make you desire a completely male body flipped. Which is the case for me. But this "switches" concept really becomes clear when you realize that there are actually trans-women that are "butch". They like parts of their masculinity but they are still women. The same goes for effeminate trans-men.
Gender is a somewhat useful construct and it does have its roots in actual differences between people. Some people get sort of screwed by nature with a hormonal imbalance and (sometimes) undesirable body parts.

I wonder where we will be in 100 years gender-roles/expectations-wise. I recently saw a public service propaganda ad about domestic violence that was so condemning of violence towards women and children(girls) by men. It portrayed the woman as the default victim of DV and the girls as future seductresses of violent men and that boys who were victims epitomized such tragedy due to their potential future harm onto other women and girls.
I punched a brick wall for 5 straight minutes. The only saving grace is that I broke my skin and bled for myself and no one else.

Gender socialization is a result of the biological factors though, like no one socializes women to being physically weaker or slower, no one socializes the neurological components in men and women or the hormones that govern them thereby. Socialization reinforces gender and is caused by it, not vice versa. However attempting to suggest binary gender is a social construct is in itself a social construct and very harmful.

But I don't think they are two ideas that can't be reconciled - no one thinks gender is completely a social construct, everyone has to admit that at least some things (hormones etc) are related to biology, but the main point is that much of gender is socially constructed and it has to be challenged where it is damaging. In any case, saying that feelings are 'socialised' doesn't mean that they aren't 'real'.

I'm not sure either that feminism could have taken root in anything but a post industrial economy. The way I see it, a service economy like this, which sure as hell isn't terribly healthy, isn't doing women any actual favors in the long haul. So in essence, if men have evolved to kill and build, while women serve and nurture, where's the change?. How many women in the audience want to haul shingles up onto a roof? I will tell you some good news, however: alot of guys I talk to around where I live are quite aware of what you're talking about. They know they're being shafted and mistreated. They know there's great prejudice against men in the West at least. But they feel powerless to do anything.

You can tell them that 80% of homeless people are men, that 93% of prisoners are men, that 95% of workplace deaths are men, that 80+% of suicide victims are men, but that won't change her views one bit. She'll say "But women are oppressed because of...". Even if you accept the validity of feminists' complaints, the statistics I mentioned should at least convince feminists that men are oppressed too.

The image of what a man is and isn't still is held today despite having no practicality. I would surmise that you hate your body and your own self image because you were made to feel bad about yourself because your behavior wasn't in keeping with society's idea of what a woman is and by looking the part you're acting, you feel more natural.

But this "switches" concept really becomes clear when you realize that there are actually trans-women that are "butch". They like parts of their masculinity but they are still women. The same goes for effeminate trans-men.
Gender is a somewhat useful construct and it does have its roots in actual differences between people. Some people get sort of screwed by nature with a hormonal imbalance and (sometimes) undesirable body parts.

I wonder where we will be in 100 years gender-roles/expectations-wise. Most of these problems seem to be written into our very DNA, but in the past few decades, it seems culture has become a lot more self-aware in how it treats the sexes. I wonder if these issues are a result of growing pains, in a culture striving to be more equal, but missing the root of the problem, and struggling in over-compensating for past misdeeds.
