Anyone remember that old video game for Xbox and PS2 called Star Wars Obi Wan?
That should have been the plot for episode 1. It left out the forced shoe horned characters of C3PO and most importantly JAR JAR BINKS. It focused more on the jedi, and how they uncovered a mystery that led to the trade federation, and made the droids more evil. If Lucas went with that, more money would have been made, and less negative reviews. But oh, I forgot, logic doesn't hit Lucas's brain...

"Oh, that's right, I'm still alive, and I'm watching the movie, I guess."
It's SO brilliant. This was my exact feeling after watching all the three movies. They're so completely out of touch with humanity and everything human, it's like they were made by a machine. I really can't think of any other movie that's like this..
I know you touched on it, but how did you not spend 5 minutes ranting about the short little blip where smea skywalker basically tells quigon that anikan is jesus. HE HAS NO FATHER. Either she is the virgin mary or she's really sticking to her story. That was the most retarded part for me.
People also seem to forget that in the old movies Yoda says that Obi-Wan was a lot like Luke. Obi-Wan also says this to Luke about Anakin. Luke was whiny and hotheaded. And to a point so where Vader and Obi-Wan.
The Force was something around you that you had to obtain by learning, but now they little cells in your body that "talk" to you. I guess Osmosis Jones is a Jedi
@superhuman295 No, Obi-Wan says its an energy field that surrounds us. It reside with in all living things. With a couple of days of training Vader was able to tell Luke was strong in the force. Strong in the force, not because of training. Midiclorians explain why people are stronger in the force than others.
I would've made Obi-Wan and Anakin both padawans from Yoda (at the same time) Anakin receiving the general Jedi training and both being equally talented (no chosen one bullsh*t) and good friends. In this version, the jedi are allowed to marry etc and Anakin meets Padme (let's call her that, maybe keep the diplomat part). Then Obi-Wan and Anakin go on adventures during the clone wars and they discover the sith are still active. But the Sith capture Padmé and so tempt Anakin to the dark side.
@georginiou That messes up the whole character of Anakin. He needs to start out good and become seduced by the dark side. that way he can be redeemed by Luke and return to his true good self. That's his arc.
One other thing I want to note that wasn't stated here (probably because what I say will lead to the third movie).
When Anakin is first being observed by the Jedi Council, Yoda says "See through you, we can" and then they are able to see his thoughts about his mother and that he's afraid. But while Yoda is speaking to Anakin in Episode 3 about visions regarding death (Padme's death), Yoda is somehow unable to see that Anakin's thoughts dwell on someone he loves and has married?
@NodDisciple1 Yeah they did. Also better training wouldn't help. You could say Anakin hid his force powers from Yoda, but since Yoda was around during Anakin's training, Yoda would pick up on these hidden things.
You could argue "Well Palpatine was hiding his force abilities", but Yoda never knew what Palpatine was capable of to begin with, so he likely thought that the 'hidden force' was all the force he had.
@hankheavy Calling another person by the "color" of their skin isn't at all racist, it might be indicative of someone being stereotyped, but not necessarily racist. Racism is the belief that one or more races are superior to others by manner of their race or skin color. Also, I call my black friends black, and they seem fine with it. In fact, if someone's allowed to call me, "whitey," I see no reason I can't call them, "black."
@hazzardkitsune Oh...well...how about you get the joke instead?! Didn't you see that I wrote "Racist"? And you're actually explaining to me what the word "racist" means. Thank you Captain Obvious! Your comment serves no purpose!
I just noticed that he has two "Number 10"s on the list. Nice that he put in little jokes for us to notice on repeat viewings (like that pizza roll assembly line in the "Clones" review).
Jar Jar was bad... But to me, he is nothing compared to "Little Ani"
I refuse to call him Anakin, simply because I cannot believe that such a potentially awesome character could have been so mercilessly ravaged by a kid actor that acted like he was drafted straight from Barney and Friends.
The whole scene "where he accidentally flies the star-fighter and accidentally destroys the control ship" has got to be the most blatant rape of realism I have ever seen in a movie. Ever...
So Anakin was left with the pod racer still. And here it comes: They sold the pod racer a child flew, who messed up the beginning of the race and still won against the undefeated Sebulba, and Lucas wants to tell us this pod racer didn't bring in enough money to buy his mother from Watto, who at that point had lost everything and would've needed money more than everything, while at the same time a pod=a slave money wise, Anakin's pod=way more than 1. This is bullshit.
The bet thing was just so Anakin would participate in the pod race to get the money for the star ship part, but the way everything turned out at the end it doesn't make much sense. When the bet changed, Watto wouldn't want to risk 2 slaves on it because _2_ slaves are more valuable, but that in return implies that selling the pod would bring enough money to buy 1 slave. Ok, so the prize money is enough to buy the ship part from Watto, Anakin is being freed by Watto betting on him.
Yeah, the focus should have been on Obi-Wan. The first movie would open with the conclusion of an adventure that would highlight the kind of personality Obi-Wan is, then leads to him being ready for his "trials", then he and Qui-Gon gets sent to Naboo to mediate a crisis (only to be caught up in a trap set by the TF), they join up with the resistance, escape from Naboo, lands on Coruscant (where Obi-Wan feels a bit of a kinship with Anakin), there is no age requirement per se, etc.
@dswynne I feel like Anakin(in his teen years) should've saved Obi-Wan by using the force unconsciously, which would lead to Obi-Wan being impressed about his skill and eager to train him. Anakin also should've been written as a power hungry person (rooting into what he experienced as a slave, never willing to suffer again) and maybe add seeking for revenge against Watto and others, and you got a perfect character setup who would actually do what he did in RotS.
Before watching TPM after seeing AOTC I thought Obi-Wan was a teenaged Anakin, Qui-Gon was a slightly younger Obi-Wan with long hair, and that kid was either Anakin as a kid in a short flashback or some random kid they brought to become a Jedi. Thought it would've made sense that in each episode Obi-Wan's hair got shorter, and after seeing 'Obi-Wan' being the one to kill Maul, thought it was Anakin showing him as a great Jedi, and seeing those kids in AOTC the process of getting them explained.
I mostly agree, but I think that Shmi Skywalker was a prostitute who was owned by Watto. That's why she acted so strange when Qui-Gon asked who Anakin's father was, and claimed that he had no father. That's also why Watto wanted to keep Anakin more than his mother, because Shmi was useless when she was pregnant with Anakin.
Just choke Watto with the Force while Padme grabs the part & they run out of the shop. LOL! Qui-Gon is stupid. He can just find another junk dealer that his mind tricks WILL work on & trade out the worthless republic credits for the part. LOL! Nobody likes little kids when they can't act. The kiss of death for any movie. LOL! C3PO's arms don't bend. What the fuck is he supposed to help the mom with? LOL! Maybe a vibrator because it seems the only action Shmi was getting was from The Force! LOL!
the only purpose midichlorians serve is to set up obi-wan's "zomg moar powerful than Yoda!" line. THAT'S IT. So they flushed the force's entire mystique down the toilet because they can't take 10 seconds to show Anakin do something amazing and simply HAVE QUI-GON SEE IT. Or whatever happened to "the force is strong in this one"?
The WHOLE POINT of midichlorians was so qui-gon could send a blood sample to obi-wan, who could then say "zomg more powerful than Yoda!" instead of simply showing qui-gon stating "the force is strong in him." (which he does later anyway.)
In the Expanded Universe, we learn that Jinn was infamous among the Jedi for being reckless, immature, and kinda crazy. This makes his actions in the movie make more sense, but if that was Lucas's intention all along, he would have made it clearer in the movie itself rather than having some novelist justify everything retroactively.
Star Wars Episode One should have been about Yoda feeling a disturbance that there was a kid somewhere with a very powerful ability to use the force (not midichlorians). They search for him, and find him on Tattooine as a slave, being treated like shit, but Anakin loses his mind one day and destroys his slave owners with his mind, really fucked up shit. And he does this because they kill him mother. This would do two things, liberate Anakin and explain why they do not save her.
@georginiou Combine that exellent idea with Mr. Plinkett's suggestion that you merge Qui-Gon with Obi-Wan and make him train Anakin despite the council's advice. Now you got a movie.
@badbit Yeah, Obi Wan Kenobi probably would just feel sorry for the kid, maybe he could be partly responsible for her death, and Anakin finds this out in a later movie, which makes him go insane. I just feel we needed to feel Anakin's dark side early, he needed to kill people in brutal ways, and Obi Wan Kenobi couldn't leave him on his own with powers that were that strong. Already we have the idea of a better movie.
@dante224real1 That's what I'm saying. If I had that idea, I wouldn't think it was strong enough for a screenplay. I wouldn't develop it, but it's already better than the prequels, and it took me about 5 minutes to think it up. The reason it's a better idea, is because it is actually an idea. The prequels are films about nothing. If Lucas had been writing the scripts for longer than 3 days, it might've been good.
@dante224real1 I think you are probably right. The script was written on a napkin in the space of time it took George Lucas to devour a bucket of one-hundred dollar bills. So, about forty seconds.
@georginiou i think he just took a book of madlibs and filled in all the spaces with foreign word, to which he then sounded out, made an english word out of tht, and then rearranged each sentence in a way that he thought would make sense. then again, that takes actual thought to come up with, and i dont want to give him that much credit
I've got a better idea for Anakin's mom to die: she is killed at the hands of Darth Maul when he comes to Tatooine. After Maul kills Qui and escapes at the end of Episode I, maybe little Anakin could swear to avenge his mother as he enters the Jedi Order. That could be the beginning of Anakin's fall to the Dark Side.
@SGRev1 I agree that his mother should've been killed in E1, but I would add one suggestion that I always thought was appropriate in this same instance...that is, that Anakin may have felt that if the Jedi had not arrived on Tatooine that his mother would never have been killed. This would set up the stage for a much deeper understanding of why his trust for the Jedi council was shaken in Episode 3 and how Palpatine was able to persuade him to the dark side so easily at that point.
I am planning to do a fanfic rewrite of the script of the Star Wars prequels. My original plan was to have Obi-Wan be the master and Qui-Gon be the padawan and have the padawan killed by Darth Maul. But to come to think of it, I like your idea of combining to the two characters into one better. I'll go with that instead.
Either way, I was planning to have Darth Maul escape and replace Dooku in Clones instead of having him get chopped in half at the end of Menace.
Or maybe your idea of having Master Qui-Gon Jinn send Obi-Wan to the planet to prove himself while he meditates aboard the ship is better. I'll take inspiration from that.
Dude seriously you make valid points but your rapist/still lives with his mom kind of voice prevents me from taking you seriously maybe that's why you enjoy rape jokes :/
That bugged me the most. How they didn't go back for Anakin's mother. They really couldn't find the time? "Oh, I'll just wait 10 years. Surely she won't get raped and killed by sand people."
Actually, maybe Rusty Nail here should quit picking apart a perfectly fine character and critique the Original Trilogy a bit, which is just as much littered with plot holes, horrible acting and dialog, and simply retarded elements as the prequels. Or is his childhood a protective shield against the old trilogy's flaws? And he should leave his mother's man cave downstairs.
Personally I think Qui gonns moral ambiguity makes him a more interesting character. He's not a cut and dry jedi, there might be more to him than we see
@bigmac286 "Personally I think Qui gonns moral ambiguity makes him a more interesting character. He's not a cut and dry jedi, there might be more to him than we see."
Be that as it may, he dies at the end of the movie, so we never get to find out if that's really the case. It's a waste of a character, really.
Well, why doesn't every movie uses common sense? That's a stupid argument, movies would be abolutely boring if every character used common sense to make decisions. You sound like the black girl in Scary Movie telling the movie what to do.
3:37 It's the silly zombies-in-the-mall theme from 'Dawn of the Dead' (1978)! That tune never gets old!
\8-D
7:32 That's just a hull, not a whole droid. It also explains why Threepio is no longer a "chop shop" droid in AotC. But wait...it's the wrong color. He had a matte gray finish in AotC (which is actually a lot more practical than a glossy gold finish).
He's probably in the film just because Liam Neeson really, really wanted to be in a Star Wars film. Apparently, he was so eager that he didn't even read the script before signing up for The Phantom Menace...which explains a lot, now that I think about it. Why Liam Neeson's in a film this bad, why his character seems to serve no purpose...hell, it wouldn't surprise me too much if Neeson had asked for Qui-Gon to be killed off so he could get out of appearing in Episodes II and III.
Wattoo has a slave. That he keeps in nice comfortable surroundings. That he absolutely will not sell or bet away under any circumstance. What purpose does Shmi serve? I think her primary purpose is pretty obvious, in that Wattoo appears to have "human fever" for her.

4:30 to 5:30 Good Lord. Sounds like an accountant discussing corporate records while absolutely stoned on some heavy pot! Even 2+2=4 get blurred away!
Did anyone hear the latest? George Lucas said that he's not interested in making any more films because of the response he's heard from the internet fans. I think we should all hold our cyber hands together and give thanks. But he offered something else. He responded to criticism he received because he altered the original films in which he added material from the prequels. He said that ultimately they are his films and he can do whatever he wants with them. I REST MY CASE
Yes, why the hell didn't they go back to get Anakin's mom? "Let's leave her on the planet as a slave, then I'll find her ten years later after she's been kidnapped by Tusken Raiders and about to die."
6:15 is not the only obvious prop in the movie - I noticed that the communicator Qui Jon and Obi Wan use is a spray painted Gillete women's razor, I knew cos I used that exact damn model!
I saw in the Star Wars enclyclopedia again, and yeah that's the damn Gillete razor.
I realise that you already said you didn't read the books, and I can respect that, but in my encyclopedia of Star Wars...I think that's what it was...anyway, the bet with Watto was actually fixed, Watto used a loaded die. Qui-Gonn knowing that is still just as confusing.
I just gotta say... never use the prequel movies for reference. I mean really, I just use the general story to get an idea on timeline. otherwise please... use books and comics. They make more sense and generally are more interesting. They present the characters much better. I mean, in one book i got more true character from Anakin than i did in all of the prequel movies. So yeah, screw the movies. Use the books. At least Lucas didnt write them
Screw you guys! I exist on an alternate plane of reality where midiclorians were never mentioned! There is no war or sickness, and everyone has a cool jetpack.
@NotOrdinaryInGames You're completeley wrong. His intention is to sound like the kind of nerd that would seriously make two hour reviews of Star Wars movies, if anything he wants to make people laugh with his fake persona. He doesn't want to sound witty or smart. I mean, these reviews are made by several people actually, why would any of them want to sound witty during these reviews? These videos are less about their own opinions and more about entertainment.
I believe Mr Lucas was inspired by h t t p ://en.wikipedia. org/wiki/Mitochondrial_DNA Mitochondria DNA...the powerfactory of cells. (take out the space, YT doesn't like URLs)
This is they only way I can think of Mr Lucas getting his inspiration from...
Midochlorians are Lucas' retarded attempt at including "science" to the Force. They're apparently supposed to function like mitochondria (woah--shocker, the name is even similar) except instead of merely giving energy to our cells, they give us magic energy too. I think someone told Lucas the plot of Parasite Eve and he thought nobody would notice if he stole it.
when i first saw ANH when i was 4 in 1988, while i was sick and my dad brought a TV and VCR in my room (cant believe i remember my first time watchign star wars) i got the impression that anakin would be a teenager and obiwan would be about 10 years older. they would meet on chance and obiwan would sense that anakin was force sensitive then train him. like a black belt deciding to train some kid thinking that he could be as good a teacher as his teacher.
@MultiAngryguy maybe the bet was supposed to be some jedi mind trick! :P The thing that always gets me is that they actually leave the mom behind... would Luke do that? nope. Not only that, but they never explain why Annikan has to wait 10 years to go back and rescue her. The Jedi must have been tied up in counsel meetings for an entire decade. They don't feel like heroes.
@MultiAngryguy The cube was rigged. Why else would Watto carry around his own sprecific die? It also explains why he was so upset when it came up blue. He was certain that it would come up red.
I was 12 when I first saw this vomit, and I was mad as hell about it because even as a kid I knew that was a cheap copout. EVERYONE would atleast check out the other traders, repair shops etc.
your ideas....of letting Qui Gon beein jsut the wise guy, staying on the ship and lettin' Obi wan find Anakin...trying to teach him against advise of the concil and his master...I really think, they should remake the prequels with some of your ideas...
Plus how did they get C3-PO off of naboo did aninikin bring him no that's not right because we don't see him till part 2 did his mom bring it no because her brain would blow up did he find it in some junk store no because then he still wouldn't be finished how did he get him off they just should have had 3-PO be pademas assistant to help with translation and that way he would have had been put together and be functional

LOL!

Snagprophet 3 weeks ago
the only purpose midichlorians serve is to set up obi-wan's "zomg moar powerful than Yoda!" line. THAT'S IT. So they flushed the force's entire mystique down the toilet because they can't take 10 seconds to show Anakin do something amazing and simply HAVE QUI-GON SEE IT. Or whatever happened to "the force is strong in this one"?
NomnomJawsnomnom 3 weeks ago
The WHOLE POINT of midichlorians was so qui-gon could send a blood sample to obi-wan, who could then say "zomg more powerful than Yoda!" instead of simply showing qui-gon stating "the force is strong in him." (which he does later anyway.)

anime1973 3 weeks ago

This would do two things, liberate Anakin and explain why they do not save her.
georginiou 3 weeks ago 43
@georginiou Combine that exellent idea with Mr. Plinkett's suggestion that you merge Qui-Gon with Obi-Wan and make him train Anakin despite the council's advice. Now you got a movie.
badbit 1 week ago 2
@badbit Yeah, Obi Wan Kenobi probably would just feel sorry for the kid, maybe he could be partly responsible for her death, and Anakin finds this out in a later movie, which makes him go insane. I just feel we needed to feel Anakin's dark side early, he needed to kill people in brutal ways, and Obi Wan Kenobi couldn't leave him on his own with powers that were that strong. Already we have the idea of a better movie.
georginiou 1 week ago
@georginiou DUDE, thats perfect!, it fits just perfectly, the film would have been epic if they used that!,
deadhobo16 1 week ago
@deadhobo16 Thanks, someday someone might remake the prequels, and I hope they do a story like that.
georginiou 1 week ago
@georginiou thats 400 times as creative as all the prequils combined, and thats a pretty mediocre idea
dante224real1 1 week ago
@dante224real1 That's what I'm saying. If I had that idea, I wouldn't think it was strong enough for a screenplay. I wouldn't develop it, but it's already better than the prequels, and it took me about 5 minutes to think it up. The reason it's a better idea, is because it is actually an idea. The prequels are films about nothing. If Lucas had been writing the scripts for longer than 3 days, it might've been good.
georginiou 1 week ago
@georginiou i think lucas wrote all three screenplays on one coffee filter
dante224real1 1 week ago
@dante224real1 I think you are probably right. The script was written on a napkin in the space of time it took George Lucas to devour a bucket of one-hundred dollar bills. So, about forty seconds.
georginiou 1 week ago
@georginiou i think he just took a book of madlibs and filled in all the spaces with foreign word, to which he then sounded out, made an english word out of tht, and then rearranged each sentence in a way that he thought would make sense. then again, that takes actual thought to come up with, and i dont want to give him that much credit
dante224real1 1 week ago

This would set up the stage for a much deeper understanding of why his trust for the Jedi council was shaken in Episode 3 and how Palpatine was able to persuade him to the dark side so easily at that point.
jandyb79 3 weeks ago
I am planning to do a fanfic rewrite of the script of the Star Wars prequels. My original plan was to have Obi-Wan be the master and Qui-Gon be the padawan and have the padawan killed by Darth Maul. But to come to think of it, I like your idea of combining to the two characters into one better. I'll go with that instead.
Either way, I was planning to have Darth Maul escape and replace Dooku in Clones instead of having him get chopped in half at the end of Menace.
SGRev1 3 weeks ago
Or maybe your idea of having Master Qui-Gon Jinn send Obi-Wan to the planet to prove himself while he meditates aboard the ship is better. I'll take inspiration from that.
