Polysuratic Storage Myopothy (PSSM). From the way I understand it, the disease is kind of like diabetes except it affects the muscles not the organs. You have to change the diet and take out all green grass out of the equation. I never got him fixed, tried for almost 4 years. Finally traded him off WITH full disclosure of all his issues. He is in Florida now, poor guy has been through 5 homes since I got rid of him about 2 years ago. :(
i have a big yellow horse we call hank too!, but anyways he started actin up and rearin up in the roping box, and bucking when you took him up to a lope, and his back was actually out, we had to go get it put back in twice, but after that, hes a better horse than when we first got him
i would have to say that this look to me a saddle fit issue that started this whole thing. he did respect u, really make sure you have a proper fiting saddle.
this is not a pain issue . It is a get what he wants issue. He figures if it worked once it will work again and by watching the video you give him exactly what he wanted by untacking him after his episode. You should have put him on a lead line and wore him out even after they all of the bucking.
a fractured vertebrae in his withers? aww =( can you please tell me what his symptom were? just out of curiosity, as a learning question. he's ADORABLE.
I wanna revise what I said. It COULD be a pain issue. I've never seen a horse spin himself in a circle after bucking. That's a clear indication of pressure points. It could be your saddle or your pad, but I agree. There is DEFINITELY something going on. Possibly a pinched nerve. I'd stay off him, though, just to be on the safe side.
happy to know you found out what was wrong :) your horse is beautiful !
my horse had wither issues too except its just the saddle pinching and when i started riding him again i let him loose like that too he crow hopped from one end to the other end of the areana!!
by the way he's a beautiful boy and you can tell he respects the handler, he didn't run her over and was respectful even as the handler cinched him up. What a good horse :)
Yes, he should be fine. I will know more about his withers next week. But the PSSM is manageable with a change in diet and exercise. I will post more about his withers after his appointment next week. Thanks for the nice words!
The discomfort looks like its only on the left side. I had a roping horse that would cramp up on his right side when I saddled him and once the cramp worked out he was fine. Before you cinch him up, try to apply pressure where the cinch will go and hold that pressure (with your hand) and see what he does. Most of the time you can feel it tighten, you may have to move your hand around. After he comes to you does he still buck??
is this horse the one in TheHayleyPayne's video? that threw her husband and bucked really really bad?
