it annoys me that american commentators never acknowledge beth tweddle.. i no its the US nationals so they're not really focusing on international gymnasts but they always say that nastia has the highest difficulty in the worl when in fact bethtweddle has higher.
At the time nationals took place, Beth did NOT have a higher start value. She really didn't unveil that until the Olympics, so at this time BEFORE the olympics, Nastia's was the highest start value in the world.
Had Beth added all of the extra difficulty into her routine by then, though? I think at one point she wasn't quite up to the 7.8 that she had at the Olympics, don't know if it was June of last year or not. It's also quite possible that the commentators hadn't heard the gossip about Beth's routine by that point (if she was up to her 7.8 difficulty by then), as well.
It wouldn't surprise me if they really didn't know--it IS Elfie and Tim, after all.
To be fair, Tweddle's DV has been wavering between 7.7 and 7.8 because there would times when she would do the toe-on full to her dismount but most of the time she did a toe-on toe-off to her dismount so she would lose the .1 in CV value. It should be noted that the only time Tweddle competed the toe-on full to her dismount in the Olympics was in the final.
@Gymnasticsbabex : I agree. I also don't understand WHY THE HELL Nastia's coach thought it was a good idea to keep that hideous dismount in. It tends to sour all of the beautiful work she does throughout. Obviously it takes it's toll and it wears her out at the end. Keeping that dismount in looks bad AND incredibly painful. Poor gal. Still, an amazing gymnast, as is Beth.
ouch that must've hurt. not really physically but I would've been SOO MADD cuz the routine was perfect till the dismount :( oh yeah and sam's routine was PERFECT!!!!!!! :D
I give her a 10
