  • Anyone who can make people laugh out loud three quarters of a century after their performance was filmed has got to be a class act. I never had much time for the other pre war comedians but Laurel and Hardy are amongst my all time favourites. Stan with his dopey looks and Ollie with his exasperated "what am I doing with this idiot?" expressions towards the camera are a perfect combination. Quality stands the test of time.

  • this is quality

  • Pure genius

  • If you don`t like Stan and Ollie, you don`t like life!....they are eternal.

  • Classic!!!

Had it when released as a video, upgraded to DVD. Should release it in Blu-Ray.

Had this song when released as a double A side record too in the days of vinyl, Honolulu Baby on the flip side.

Loved everything about Stan and Ollie except their silent era. Nothing personal, just thought their talkies was miles funnier.

Thanks for putting this on You Tube.

  • Just beautiful - what a sadly missed pair they are!

  • Didn't realise Ollie was such a good singer :)

  • forget modern alterative comedy(wtf is that all about) the look on ollies face when stan sings like the woman is pure comedy genius.any comedian setting out today should watch old laurel and hardy films and learn about comedy timing from the masters, who were also real gents.

  • @gte113 DURING THE LATE SEVENTIES EARLY EIGHTIES, PEOPLE WERE BEGINNING TO DO COMEDY THAT WASN'T PARTICULARLY FUNNY, IT WAS LABELLED ALTERNATIVE...BUT SHOULDA HAD THE COMEDY WORD LEFT OUT.

  • @gte113 'forget modern alterative comedy(wtf is that all about)' -please could you justify this and give examples, you see, i believe stewart lee could be classed as a modern alternative comedian, and he is the finest stand up around, although of course L+H are legendary, it doesnt have to be one or the other, you can enjoy old and new comedy.

  • @gte113 Already on my way, sir :)

  • @WeeAddy31 good luck. hope you get there : )

  • @gte113 Thanks ;)

  • There was no funnier team ever in the history of show business(and I'm a big fan of the Marx Bros, too)They had no need to work 'blue',unlike many of today's comediansTthank you so much for this and the other Laurel and Hardy postings.Greetings from Melbourne,Australia.

  • I don't understand how 2 people can dislike this video... Is it the song... Laurel and Hardy... What is it???? I think I speak for all the people who have commented on this when I say...........why you have clicked the dislike button!!

  • CLASSIC I LOVE IT!!!!

  • I grew up with these movies, my dad is a Grand Sheik in the International Sons of the Desert organization. The magic of Laurel & Hardy always brings a smile to my face, and fond memories to the forefront of my mind

  • One of my best memories of yoof, circa 1970's, Thank you for posting.

  • classic - my dads favourite

  • Yeah, this was from Way Out West, made in 1937, not in 1923, FOUR YEARS BEFORE THE FIRST TALKIE, The Jazz Singer, was made in 1927. They weren't even paired together until 1926 when both were signed by the Hal Roach studio. They did appear in a 1921 movie, The Lucky Dog, but it was Stan who got the billing and Oliver wasn't even mentioned on the posters.

  • So fine!! I so appreciate such talent!!!

  • I love old Hollywood.

    My grandparents love them.

    They will never be forgotten.

    What a pair :)

  • 2 dislikes, are you nut's ????????????????????

  • what IS it about laurel and hardy? why are they so funny? i find them hilarious but i can't figure out why and it's really bugging me!!!

  • Love it!!!

  • THANKS! these guys were great, funny as can be and never needed to throw "F" or"S" words in,real class!

  • Great song! -and great for singing when on a long horse ride (the horses seem to love the song too!).Thanks for sharing it!

  • How kind and good people were in that time .. I only envy them...

  • @gevorgls There were bad dudes around in those day's too, I should know, I was one of 'em. I am 109 year's old.

  • I so love Laurel and Hardy! :)

  • thanks for that. so love this moment :)

  • Whatcan I say, nothing, because it is a classic!

  • Film was made in 1937.. & stands the test of time.. Brilliant..

  • Outstanding! Thank you for posting. Sound was synchronized in movies as early as 1921 but was used exclusively in "shorts". The first feature film with sound generally is listed as "The Jazz Singer" in 1927 though some could argue there were earlier examples.

  • In all seriousness though, I loved this movie, especially the rope scene. I just love these guys, just the facial expressions they can make just makes me nearly choke of laughing so much, especially Laurel's cry-explenations :P

  • 2 people were hit over the head with a hammer by Oliver Hardy but couldnt keep singing.

  • 1923?! There wasn't any sound in movies for another 3/4 years, This film came out in 1937. Regardless thanks for sharing this clip, it's very nice to watch these two legends after all these years. :)

  • The best comedians ever, I have all their stuff and I can't stop watching it and laughing with them, but I think it is not a movie of 1923 but of 1933. In 1923 there were no movies with sound.

  • just watched whispering grass and now this , nearly wet myself laughing!

  • What can anyone say anew ? Marvelous copy, such clarity. Who be the 2 dislikes though---how sad, what kind of lives do they lead. tut tut.

  • it does not get any better than this.

  • i can't say how much i love these two. they were best friends and that is what makes their comedy so special. you can see this in how they react to each other. never get tired of watching Stan and Ollie.

  • Excellent !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Just beautiful.

Oliver (to barman): Could I have the mallet please?

    Barman: Sure, there you go.

  • Absolutely brilliant,both song and the video.Class,class,class.

  • dontcha just love it.

  • never, ever, ever dates. I laughed heartily when i was a kid, I laugh heartily now . Truly timeless comedy perfection.

  • Still makes me laugh, every time... BRILLIANT duo and the best of friends off screen too...They do not age, and will be forever funny.. The other song that makes me giggle is the one where they dance in front of the hotel... 'Way out West'...

Best regards to all you Laurel and Hardy fans out there in 'you-tube-land' ... from Wales UK :0)x

  • Laurel & Hardy still funny after the best part of 90 years and will still be as funny in another 90 true timeless classic

  • @zen171771 - very well stated. Your response is on target and also great social commentary. This is a great and very funny clip. I have seen many of the L&H movies and movie shorts and they are gems; these guys were so good. I like what you had to say and how you said it; very thought provoking.

  • Comic geniuses. Never bettered. this was released as a single in the U.K. in the 70s & went to #1 in the charts!

  • Comment removed

  • No better ever than Stan and Ollie.

  • Thank you for putting that up.

  • greatest comedy duo ever. the ones that all others are judged

  • Agreed , the body may wither and die but the classic spirit remains to touch new generations long after they're gone. What better testiment to your life is that.

  • Love these guys and have since childhood. Thanks for uploading this as it gave me the opportunity to do my version:-))

    Thanks aGAIN!!

  • Like the man said, A very Gentle Song, sung by two very Gentle Men, many thaks boys I will always remember the pair of you RIP.

  • zen171771: In 1923 movies were SILENT! This clip is from a 1937 movie.

  • Wonderful...Thanks for posting this. These guys are very dear to me as I'm sure they are to you.

    :-)

  • stan makes me laugh

  • Thank heaven my parents raised me on this. I'm 15 and it's one of my favourate films in the world.

  • It's nice to know (for this 51 year old anyway) that we recognize true comedic genius that our begone eras valued so deeply. today the disparity of quality in today's so-called comedy is glaring. I find it neither funny, substantive or groundbreaking. The pairing of Stan and Ollie was a God-given once in a lifetime masterstroke which has lost none of it's impact upon viewing. The kids may not know of their work but somehow their image tells them who it is. my kids know.

  • @NYVoice What you say is so true..Laurel and Hardy are giants of comedy..Comedy is simple if you have the talent you can pull it off.(they had talent in abundance also the supporting actors were brilliant) I struggle to find a comedy act today who can challenge theses two giants of comedy....I live in england i will be visiting Stan laurels birth place to pay my respects.I hope one day to visit the United States to visit their graves...many thanks.

  • @NYVoice They're not all bad, but I do agree that nothing can ever come close to these two, it's just not possible.

  • Thanks man now i feel good!!

  • thankufaydog2010for this wonderful memory i havenot seen in years.seems as olie had quite a beautiful voice!

  • Thanks Sean ... classic :-)

  • you cant get bored of this song

  • They still shne today cause nothing we have comes close to this classic greatness!!

  • Fantastic - I remember trying to sing the high bit and not being able to move for laughing!

  • how on earth can 2 dislike this ?

  • Stan Laurel.... You are the best!!!

  • one of my favourite scenes :)

  • 2 dislikes? Guess someone doesn't have a sense of humor..

  • It is just amazing to me; you would think as we evolve we would get better at things, but here is a classic piece of musical film from 1923 Laurel & Hardy in which there is not much at present day that can hold a candle to this in any way or manner. Watch their other films they are GEMS and they were an incredible comedy duo.

  • @zen171771

I second that emotion! The great comics of yesteryear knew their stuff..unlike so many so-called "comics" of today, they were able to make us laugh & keep us entertained without resulting to coarse & vulgar routines. THANKS for a very thoughtful, intelligent & articulate comment! :)

  • @zen171771 Well stated, and I agree totally. The nature of humanity is that sin creeps in and degrades everything over time. Television and film was still in its infancy stages here. Man's natural tendency to descend into the vile had yet to gain a foothold. Of course, given enough time man's nature would manifest in umseemly ways, as it always does, and the purulent and the profane would begin to dominate the airwaves and screens of America. Today, talent is secondary to the ability to defile.

  • @zen171771 Its impossible to improve on perfection :)

  • @zen171771 you say the right thing. I LOVE laurel and hardy i always watch it together with my grandma when she comes to visit. And it never gets old or boring whe always laugh about it. Laurel and oliver norvel hardy MUST always be remembered in the future. i hope it will. This movie of the is a MASTERPIECE but they are all great.

  • @zen171771 it seems the worlds just become steadily easier to please :/ tis a shame

  • @zen171771 Well this is from 1937 actually. But yea, I agree.

  • The best comedians ever

  • Amazing harmonies...........amazing people x

  • Gorgeous

  • What a lovely musical singer Oliver was. Great harmonies with Stan. THANK YOU for putting this up!

  • no need for anti-depressants,just prescibe a good dose of laurel n hardy.

  • I remember watching this when I was 9 with my dad and I loved it! 5 years later I still love this!!!

  • when ollie looks at the camara in the films, as if to say,'' i cant believe he just said that! is just priceless

  • Oh my. I was born the wrong time. But I absolutely love Laurel & Hardy. Almost nobody, if anybody, knows what it is in my grade, and even if they watched it I bet they wouldn't laugh. Nobody has a good sense of humor any more D=< I miss this.

  • XP Does he have a Pre-Hitler-stache?

  • @wkunzelman1 Hitler got it from Ollie. :P

  • when i feel a bit low i just watch this and it makes the sun shine again just pure genius . God bless you both you were two shining lights in a sea of darkness xx

  • Chill Wills did the "deep" voice for Stan

  • Clasic, what can you say!

  • Ha ha ha ha ha!

NO! Thank YOU for this little bit of fun!

Good job! I appreciate the captions for the hearing impaired too!

  • This is such a classic! I don't care how many times I've seen it, or how old it is--it's still wonderful!

  • one of the best ever ... too many to choose from ... I have them all ... keep their memory alive!!!

  • They need to put all their shorts and movies in a box set(like the one they have in the UK)or all of them on blu-ray...There were other comedy teams before them and after them, but none of them were as good or as funny as these two..

  • It was 1937 not 1923...love this film, used to laugh until I cried!

  • Just fantastic and so original

  • Blasting this from the car driving around town, just awesome haha

  • Who are the 2 people who disliked this video?

  • @SethKlan

Totally clueless individuals! (probably doing it to raise a stir!)

  • brings a tear to my eye
