I was raised in a 'singing family, although in my immediate family, there are no singers. When I was a little guy, 6 yrs old or so, I used to visit my great grandmother in the South, and she would make me stand up and sing this song, because she knew how much I loved the song..and she knew how much i loved Shirley. 1977, I sang it at her funeral...and many, many yrs later, I sang it at a buddy's funeral. I have to say, I sang the snot outta this song, and people were jumpin up like pop tarts.
