@BlackTuezday Hey Boon Doc, Do you EQ your drums? I know many producers do it and I dont really know where to start. I've heard people talking about truncating there drums or other terms that im not really familiar with. Is ther anyway you could make a video with some tips? btw i loved the first episode of your documentary.
@RAAB0601 truncating is basically cutting the beginning and ending of a sound. done mostly when loading sounds or sampling into drum machines. as for me I do eq my drums just so they won't sound to muttered or closed. it sometimes sounds like jumble.
Elaquent - The love, Boon What do you think about Elequents quantization. i think that almost seemingly offness is his vibe. If you have that kind of ear though.
Elaquent - The love Boon What do you think about Elequents quantization. i think that almost seemingly offness is his vibe. If you have that kind of ear though.
@ineffect781 i would say the maschine but if you want a full hybrid of hardware and software i would the beat thang i have been looking at videos of that and i wish i would have saved up a little more cash for it instead of maschine
fuck man, since getting a mpc1000, you are basically my go-to guy for tutorials, plus evrry time i watch a vid, its got some DOPE ASS BOONIE beat behind it.
i need to hear that iam haveing music problems and girl i looked at all your videos never seen this keep ya thing never stop pushing where you wana be
nice video and yeah I agree you gotta vibe while laying it down. if your staying overly stagnant during programing it will show a roboticnes to your beat.
also it's good to have an understanding of when to push notes backwards and forwards and how that pertains to rushing or laying back a beat.
i feel you on the body motions boondoc. lol that shit jus helps alot more then ppl think. its like youre almost a part of the beat itself...plus you get the feel of the beat and how you want those drums to bump when you get into it physically...its all about ya soul ya'll..even if you look like you havin full body convulsions,,ya beat is gon sound hot lol..good tips on the drum programing doc..you need to put out one on sampling..keep it hiphop fam...1
You're straight up the best producer on Youtube. Glad I found you early so I can be like "I knew that fool way early" when true Hip Hop finally returns to the spotlight. I kind of have a personal question though. It's safe to say that the music you create isn't the "hottest" and most "desirable" shit that's in right now (Club, mainstream garbage, etc.), so how do you get by? Do you do the music for a living or do you gotta work a real job that's supplementing it?
@Ryz0n89 The only reason I ask is because you talked about when you first got started in 03, so you've been in this for a while. I'm kind of in the same situation, I'm 21 bout to graduate college and really wanna put my all into this shit, but I gotta get a job you know? I know in this industry shit can take a while to get started but I'm just unsure of how I should approach it. You're a straight-up inspiration though, glad you have so many videos! lol
I just read that you stopped using the mpc. C'mon son. That was your lane. How about doing both?. Nobody wants to hear that smooth shyt all the time. That whole Phlliy, J Dilla, Jill Scott, Dwele, Bilal sound is hot but we still want the real vinyl too.I aint trying to diss you I'm just expressing my opinion like fans do.You got fans from the East Coast too like myself who like it shitty gritty.Dont forget about us fam. We need that fix too.
Your genuineness comes thru the screen bruh. You appear to be a good natured natured, down to earth dude. I'd put you and Jdepina up against the industry's best when it comes to them MPC skills anytime. I thought an independent label like Stonesthrow would have holla'd at you by now. The internet is full of hidden gems like yourself. Keep up the good work . Real Hip Hop heads appreciate it.
yo i was pissed off when just blaze and premier chose you in the battle. i wanted to see you battle 14kt. It would have been so epic. Anyway, i got your video on my facebook fam. can't wait till next year bro hope im in the redbullbigtune again.
yo boonie professionally speaking, what do you do to earn cake? i know most producers have that side hustle... that 9-5. im just dying to know what you exactly do for your night job so to speak. just trying to build a basis for my producing life aswell
the swing is the thing i wana lern more about...its so true what boonie is sayin about not alot of people can hear it....id make beats with my friends and id always say it hasnt got that feel im looking for, they would look at me like im mad lol, so now i do it with the quantize off to get that phantom beat and loos hi hat...but i wana know how the swing works because i want the mpc to do it for me damn it lol, but for real tho, if you could elaborate more on how the % works id be realy grateful
question i hope you can answer: how do you filter samples to take away the drums in it and still make it sound so full! i dont have a MPC for information, i use ableton live 7 with a MPD and the same keyboard that you have!
oh and the song that i uploaded, thats swissgerman... i live in switzerland -.-, was born in south africa tho... HOLLA BOOONIE
I have a quick question. During the times that you dont quantize do you still feel the need to use a metronome? I know for me as a producer/beat maker and bass player sometimes its needed and at times its not but how is it for you as far as using metronomes
@Eturnal718 when I'm not quantizing (pretty much all the time), I only use the metronome for when I lay down the kick, snare and hi-hat... once the main rhythm is laid down, I turn it off. Because the click becomes SUPER off beat compared to how I laid down my sequence lol. If I turned the metronome back on after most of my beats are finished.... people would be like "wtf???... that's waaay off" LOL!
@BlackTuezday the same exact thing happens to me! I purposely do my hihat and snares a little off beat, so when i put the metronome back on after the beat is done, it sounds way off. I couldn't even quantize my shit if i wanted to after the drums are done since it wouldn't match up with the tempo of the drums
@rakitic15 ...lol for the millionth time... when I said I was I not using the MPC anymore, I specifically said that I still had it, but wasn't using it. I'll never sell my MPC. I sold the motif rack and the synthesizer keyboards...that's it.
@OGtony88 quantizing is a thing in your mpc/software that correct the timing of your music pattern . swing is a mix of velocity and timing that i would have trouble explaining in a sentence
I was well pleased to see this tutorial.
