Great stuff. I am looking to buy into to your movie subscription thing.
Before I do I need a new guitar (i have an Epi dot now). Any suggestions on what to look for in an acoustic guitar for bossa nova. I have a preference for an acoustic electric w/ a cutaway but I am not tied to it. BTW, I go to Sao Paulo about 6 times per year so if its better to get something down there I would appreciate a heads up.
@wye4379 ... I'd wait and see what you can get in Sao Paulo, myself. As for brand ... I'm out of the loop, I'm afraid. I don't really keep up on that stuff anymore, but there are countless good, affordable guitars out there these days. So long as it's got nylon strings, it'll be good for Bossa Nova.
@wye4379 wow if I am in Brazil I will definately get me a brizilian rosewood guitar and try to get them back here dont tell customs or they'll CONFISCATE your AXE.GOOD LUCK
very nice, but definitely not bossa nova. your right hand rhythm is way off and your chord progression just sounds vaguely bossa-esque. see joao gilberto, especially to correct that right hand.
@sovietkotek It's not bragging. It all depends on your skill level. You probably have more of it. I've uploaded my own take on this song on YT, so have a look.
The part at 0:58 gets me every time. I'm learning this one just now - it's a great challenge, I've been looking for some advanced bossa nova tunes like this one. Too bad it's not longer...
that was awesome! I made my own video on this song so please check it out and tell me what you think! Great playing, I'm looking forward for more of these videos. Cheers!
you should look for stan getz, maria rita, luciana souza, elis regina, joao gilberto, you can look for most of them just writing "bossa nova" in google, thats the name of the genre!
I've been playing since 1961, violinlova, but you don't need to play that long to get good at it. Practice (play) as much and as often as you can is the best advice ... and love it.
@violinlova I've learned it in less than 3 hours. Everything else - dynamics, feel and fluidity - takes more time, it took me a week or so to get it quite close to the video. I'm playing it on piano right now - sounds really great!
Hi. This is a great video, and I love Bossa Nova.. But I can't get the technique on how to "pluck" the cords. Could you tell me how, or make a video of it? Thanks!
this is so, so cool......damn=(the chord at the 5th and 7th second doesn't sound so melodic neither on my musima resonata, nor on other guitars that i've tried...what's the focus?=)
Love this song thank you for playing :)

Make sure you're only plucking the middle four strings. The chord is a DMaj9, from bass to treble: X5465X

he doesn't move his guitar a milimeter!!!!!!!
nard109 3 years ago
That's because I anchor it down when I do lessons.
planetalk 3 years ago
Does that anchoring cause you to inadvertently bend the strings as you play the chords? Or is the bending intentional?
edwardwoelke 3 years ago
The anchoring doesn't help!
