will the i-ching answer the same question 2?For example i received my 1st reading which i cast coins for.Could i ask the same question using sticks or another method?
hi,i had just done a reading from the i ching and i just dont understand it. i had asked the question :will i ever date in the future romantically? and i got number 36 "wounded light " and then the hexagram 54 "marriage". i cant seem to piece the 2 together and make an understanding out of it.can you help me out as to how to interpretate it?
@lonepantherkmt (9=Will and 3=Love) And even tho you hate on me without knowing me you have a great life and may all that you wish come to you and yours.
@lonepantherkmt I thought it was a nice video myself. And what does his color got to do with it? whites spoiled by consumerism? Lol that's a funny one there.
Thanks for sharing! I am trying to get into using I Ching. Recently took up tarot.. and for the nay sayers... let me just tell you: this is a LOT of work. This isn't just fun and games. It takes years of serious study to do these methods of divination.
As a professional Intuitive, I I agree this video is great on so many levels. It shows the long and meditative process of using yarrow sticks, and the two kua answers were of course right on target. I also use Wu Wei's book in addition to the Wilhelm Baynes classic. I read that using yarrow sticks in also seeking out wisdom through the plant world, an older world than humans.
This video is great for so many reasons. 80s music? check. Nascar hat? Check. Mustache? Check. The only guy at the Indy 500 who could read you're I Ching.
Wow, thanks again gswarner. I just saw your other video & asked about making another one for part 2 of the process, and here it is. It's a lot clearer to me now! I had to pause each time to make notes as well. I think I'm gonna buy Wu Wei's book as well. Many many thanks really-- great video-- the wonders of You Tube!
I learned yarrow sticks from the same guy (wu wei). I do sticks just like you do. For commentary I like huang and karcher better (less confucian). There is a way to do 3-coin method and make it more mathematically accurate. I learned it from mondo secter. Throw two coins, if one's a head leave it, pick up the other. Then throw the remaining two coins. You would then have three lying there just as in the old fashioned method. Count them just as you would the old coin method.
i was always taught that the coin method has a much higher probability of inaccurate readings and too many moving lines. however i know that a lot of people feel the coins give them an accurate reading. i'm planning on making a video about the statistical odds of stalks vs. coins. thanks for watching
@andym516 I find the stalk method helps me focus and be more aware of the question and the moment - it's like the ritual of it creates the meditation necessary for a clear reading and understanding. The coin method is to fast and abrupt for me to center myself properly.
I enjoyed your production. The only issue that I have is that your method is different from both that of Huang and the Eranos Foundation's. Also the reading for the kua is different in those books as well.
Why count them out like this? Seems like the long road to take. I found sticks. Broke some in half kept some long ones. Then focused on my question while playing with them. They fell into place and my hex came together. The answers were spot on.
repeatedly asking the same question will not produce the same answer. the oracle might respond with additional info relative to the question but continuing only questions the wisdom. The ancients percieved that the wisdom came from what they called "universal mind" (supraconsciousness) This consciousness responds to our cues
If we ask over and over again, we are basically saying "I ching doesnt work " The universal mind in turn says, "ok, for you it doesnt". you cant run a test on divinity
also, when you start to question the wisdom by asking over and over, the oracle may very well respond by directing its own observations back at you. "Here's whats going on with you that you have to keep asking" or "This here other element in your life has a lot to do with your apparent lack of belief."
Having said all that, the person who finds himself "in a rut" and unable to move past it might frequently get similar answers. qustions asked in faith and with respect always get answered.
Scientifically however, used as Artificial Intelligence via high speed computing of the questions, random tosses & resulting answers would provide a machine with philosophy!
hmm not sure a computer can replicate the communion/communication with the Divine that is inherent in every reading. (shrug) By the way there are downloadable I Ching programs already. Seems to me that trying to reduce the I Ching to a parlor game (which is what that kind of attempt really is) demonstrates that one just doesnt get it.
Terrence McKenna actually plugged I Ching into a computer model time line and called it Timewave Zero. The method produces a graph over 4000 years when the I Ching was written and accurately predicts many important change events throughout human history and will supposedly end in winter solstice 2012. The I Ching is one of the greatest philosophical texts known to man. Right behind it is Tao Te Ching.
Cool. This looks like a very involved and meditatve kind of divination. It takes time, and the repetative motions would make you focus on your question and take time to really concider it. I bet it works very well. Definately interesting and worth a try.
Amazing, I asked what I Ching thought about me giving advice and interpretation, and I got hexagram 1, Heaven, mutating to 26, the same one on the video, which I understood was aproving my precautions by explaning the limitations of my job and the limitations of I Ching´s power, when I was thinking about those who claims against it as plain superstition
This looks great but it seems to take a very long time to do. Mind you it seems to be worth it, that was extremely good advice about how to deal with people. It seems to be very accurate too.
So.. I-Ching is an ancient form of divination developed in China many thousands of years ago using stalk manipulation to form 6-line hexagrams that contain meaning. Thanks a lot for the information, GS. ^ ^
Could you do more on this? Possible to make another video but with some audio slowly explaining it. This video is so fast, I don't get it. I've been using coins but have just bought yarrow's but can't figure out how to use them! thanks... Joy
Is this more effective than throwing the 6 coins? It looks really confusing, but then I only got my I Ching book today, so dont really understand it all too well yet.
Thanks for the demonstration. I have read about it, but see it performed really clarifies the process for me. I have just started using the I Ching and I have found it remarkable in its focus on the issue at hand. I use tarot as well except it is for more reliant on individual interpretation. I don't know that one is better than the other but the I Ching certainly seems more precise.
youre right, tarot depends on interpretation, the i-ching spells it right out for you. Tarot can, however provide you with information the i-ching doesn't, depending on how well you can interpret
have written an I Ching book that is centred around horse racing and betting. It's called Raceching and it took me over twenty five years to get it in print. You can view the book at Trafford publishing website and Amazon.
If your genuinely interested, i will send a copy to you free of charge. However, i stress, only if this appeals to you. There is nothing - and i mean nothing - remotely like it in print. It's ground-breaking.
some new age stores sell packages of yarrow stalks, or there are online sources you can order from. i'm using elephant grass i bought at the craft store and cut down. i use a leather boot lace as the cord to bundle them. works just fine :)
Doctor Mary malone Used these in the amber spyglass and that has fascinated me, So I was looking for the method she used in the book with the yarrow sticks, And Your video is the best thankyou. I has heard of the coin method and other and didnt understand it but this seems like A well grounded to ask the I ching.
I would love to learn how to use the yarrow sticks for divination. I can't tell what you are doing in this video. Woul you post a step by step explanation please?
Basically, start with 50 stalks, set 1 aside as an observer. Divide the remaining 49and pull 1 from the "tabled" pile, then pull 4at at a time from the "held" stalks. Hard to explain fully here. Check out your local craft store for material to make the stalks, most any thing will work if you can't find yarrow. Elephant grass works well also. You can even use fireplace matches. The medium used is not really as important as your sincerity and respect toward the oracle. Get this book, very helpful
ok, I see you have 50 stalks. You put one down. You divide the stalks into two piles. Then you put one between your pinky and 4th finger, and count of 4's. What ever is left over you hold in your hand? I've tried to read instructions, but need to see with the explanation. Appreciate the assistance, as I'm a seasoned reader and feel the calling to use this tool.
Should the I Ching be considered a form of numerology? In a way, it is a precursor of the binary number system. They can be read as numbers. I've long been fascinated by binary numbers. It's so elegant. It's as if God meant for numbers to be written that way instead of the usual decimal system
In that case I would highly recommend the book in this video. It offers a very convincing case for using only yarrow stalks.
My own teaching has been that if an issue is pressing enough to need to consult the oracle, then shortcuts are inappropriate. That is essentially what the coin method is, a shortcut. Would then one also look for shorcuts in implementing the solution? Does the coin preference indicate a measure of impatience or laxity in the seeker?
Cool! I just finished reading a book by Wu Wei but not the same one on the video. I just love how mathematical and spiritual it is at the same time.

Should the I Ching be considered a form of numerology? In a way, it is a precursor of the binary number system. They can be read as numbers. I've long been fascinated by binary numbers. It's so elegant. It's as if God meant for numbers to be written that way instead of the usual decimal system
Oudler 4 years ago
it is important to remember that the I-Ching was being developed in China well before they had any form of alphabet or written communication.
As far as numbers, yes, God built in a whole bunch of cool concepts that work with numbers. He's awesome like that.

My own teaching has been that if an issue is pressing enough to need to consult the oracle, then shortcuts are inappropriate. That is essentially what the coin method is, a shortcut.
