  • When was this recorded... early sixties ?

  • Some mighty fine hand clappin'

  • No one can do it like Earl.

  • Love Earl's facial expression at 1:28:13. He knows he rocks.

  • @supersaiyanjesus Yes, there are a few top groups playing today on non-mainstream media, but in my biased view they are ones that pretty much avoid rock influence. However, as Earl Scruggs demonstrates here, he put forth something above and beyond the offerings of all of the other excellent banjo players that have followed since, and this fact transcends any simple consideration of reputation.

  • Indeed, Charlie, this is bluegrass at it's best when the song is a sacred song.

  • ricky skaggs plays watseka illinois on aug 26

  • Have no idea about the technicalities of the banjo or the dobro, but praise the Lord these guys can play them!

  • does anyone know the history of the dobro?

  • Love it... Earl seldom played banjo on the gospel songs.

  • No wonder their jealous.

  • This is good music, but modern music has many innovative and beautiful players/bands. Just because the radio plays junk for people to easily absorb doesn't mean underground isn't littered with gems. Diamonds are found underground.

  • BeadStallcup knows what he's talking about! Nobody can play like this nowadays.

  • Well, listen to that! Real musicians who actually knew how to harmonize and play their instuments. Damn, that is refreshing. And, listen to Uncle Josh! Wow! That's Dobro the way it was meant to be played. Gotta tell ya, their's quite a number of so-called musicians today that are in serious need of music lessons from the late Uncle Josh! Serious need, indeed!

  • @BeadStallcup Amen friend !!

  • This music could get an atheist to believe and be baptized by the end of the song. This was a treat!

  • None better, period

  • Folks, this is the sound of REAL music...Totally untrained voices, singing what they feel, and singing it straight from the heart. Cannot get more authentic Americana than this.

If you want to know what kind of simple, respectful people we USED to have in this country (the ones who built it last century), you're lookin at 'em. Honest as the day is long. Wouldn't dare catch one goin through a door held open for 'em without saying "thank you." God help us, when they are all gone.

  • The Flatt And Scruggs are my favorite bluegrass band.

  • funny how modern music lost its way this is one sure way to remember . and to be able to sing it ? thats a pleasure in its own right

  • That's about as good as it gets. What I call pure music. Hard to find anymore.

  • to ovaltine52: I agree that's Dobro done right. I've talked with 2 people who were NOT partial to Uncle Josh's style, but they are progressive, and they must NOT have heard much of Josh Graves. If they had, they would realize Josh's great talent and style and they would be eating crow right now. Josh was the best and he always will be.

  • unbelievable, how bad contemporary musicians are ! thank the lord we got this.

  • that's as tight as it'll ever get

  • most amazing musicians - and so humble! They don't make em like that anymore

  • Prettiest piece of gospel music I ever heard. If they play music in Heaven this is what I want to hear, all the time.

  • I own The Best Of The Flatt And Scruggs TV Show on dvd I bought it at Fye.

  • @sponyge Yes, they are awesome entertainment and worth every penny !

  • Old time gospel, the finest we'll ever hear anywhere, anytime! Just what we need in our country today!

  • I guess we'll have to start all over if were going to hear this great cause the new stuff is not the same.

  • My God Earl was amazing....They all were...Even on a simple straight forward song like this No one can make it sound like he did...Sheez.

  • so where is maybelle carter?

  • Do any of you picker 'n' grinners know what color were Josh Graves eyes? They usually appear to be brown, but one time they look blue. ? ?

  • Curley Seckler ... Best tenor ever ..

  • Curly WAS the best! Curly sings great on "The Girl I Love Don't Pay Me No Mind". (Vol. 5 of their T.V. show). It's very BLUEGRASSY... my favorite song he & Lester sing together.

  • Yea , I love Curley's vocals on "I ain't gonna work tomorrow" .. Awesome

  • I do too. Curly sounds great !

  • @WhoopinCough1 I tell ya...He was good..That's for sure..I like this group of people here the best of all of the ones they had.

  • I agree ! They're the best in BLUEGRASS mucic.

  • That's the way gospel should always be sung! They cannot be compared to any other group. Flatt and Scuggs are the best there ever was, and the best there ever will be in this genre of fine country music.

  • Beautiful old-time gospel music! Best of the best!

  • As my old preacher used to say:

"Now, if that don't light yer fire, then your wood is WET!!"

These guys didn't have a blueprint, or anyone to copy - they just went out there and did it. (Graves was amazing, by the way!)

  • I wish all the modern so-called Resophonic players will notice that a Dobro can be played without a capo on songs in A & B etc. Most modern players only know to play some senseless scale that never even hints at the melody. Thank you Uncle Josh for playing it like you did.

  • Amen ! Josh was amazing how he could play in all those keys without a cheater. Josh had the gift !

  • WOO! If this song don't put the spirit in ya nothin will. Flatt and Scruggs are the best!

  • YES

  • What's are the notes for sally ann

  • woot

  • awesome one of my most favorite songs at its finest

  • the best ever.

  • This band is the best band ever.

  • Was introduced to this song from a band I used be in mid '70's. Getting a charge out of the hand claps fizzling out around :38. Doesn't take away from Uncle Josh though. THAT'S Dobro done right.
