Interesting video. Thanks for posting. I uploaded some interesting videos of squirrels too like a squirrel eating a box and squirrel burglar check them out if you like.
Check Squirrel Tales for infant care instructions. I saved a 4 weeks old baby after Hurricane Irene and now a 12 weeks old big boy... Sharp nails n teeth though!
i just found a baby squirl on the sidwalk think it feel out of a tree but i took it and it dosent have its eyes opean yet but i is sooo cute i love it i just feed it but how much should i feed i wonder?
There's a lot we humans can learn from other species, namely how to get along and live together in peace - a few famous names come to mind throughout the centuries that told that to us...
Dumbasses. Just because a baby squirrel had an easy upbringing, does not mean it can't survive on it's own. It will still dig holes and find food and make nests. Lions that escape from zoos never starve to death.
Squirrels are rodents. Rodents and Humans are Supraprimates. Humans and Cats are ambush predators. Ambush predators possess parallels in behavior and human evolution is relative to the squirrel, which means evolution would hold common traits between humans and squirrels. Though distantly related, humans and cats share common traits due to common evolution in a similar environment.
Thus human behavior can be demonstrated in cats and rodents. And thus we can see cats and rodents getting along.
I have a friend who was kicked out of his house and he found a baby squirrel. Some neighborhoods know him as the Homeless Squirrel Guy. Oh yes... and the squirrels name is Can (as he kept it in an old bean can).
I found a baby squirrel the cats had trapped and put it in my cat carrier with water and food (fruit) and called the Wildlife Society to pick it up. Before they got there, hours later, I heard all this bustle on the roof: It was the Mama come calling for her baby! I put the carrier out on the deck, stepped back, and watched her come and get him - she carried him away right on her back! But not before giving me a nod of thanks :-).
I just saw a horrible video of a cat torturing a poor squirrel to death, this video makes me feel better about all in animals in general!!!! :)))))) shows they only attack to eat unlike people who enjoy seeing suffering.
2:00 All young squirrels make this noise. It has nothing to do with the fact that it has been adopted by a cat. In fact, I found a squirrel this same age in my back yard last week and it also made that "purring" sound.
We just found a 5 week old baby squirrel in the snow bank. it was freezing to death, we rescued it and are trying to take care of it. we REALLY need to find an animal sanctuary to take him to since he is so young and needs care. we live in NY state, and are currently looking for an animal rehabilitation center to take the lil guy to.
@JesterEve If you feed him make sure to feed him puppy milk replacer, never feed him cow's milk, or feed him while he's on his back or if he's cold. did you find somewhere to take him?
Scientifically animals aren't supposed to be capable of love [or emotion as we humans know it]. But this video proves that whole theory wrong. An animal, who instinctually should have eaten that baby squirrel, instead took it in as one of her own.
@bkglamb it happens all the time. it doesn't mean the animal loves anything it just has a stronger need to mother the little creature. Like the lion that adopted a baby calf (i think it was a buffalo or something) I seen it on animal planet the variety or companionship created are down right strange but it doesn't prove any greater capability for love. if any animal was capable I'd say it was the elephant or the dolphin. Both are incredibly intelligent and elephants will mourn a lost herd mate.
@2Simple2Blink I think you're being a bit short sighted here!Cat's are highly intelligent and aware.I believe from what I have seen that all creatures have their own unique character traits just like we do!My cat is very much his own little person and shows it!I think really this story and others like it tell us allot about the adaptability of nature.Go Emmy!
That's adorable, and neat. A squirrel is a pet. Squirrels are getting more comfortable with humans nowadays (a juvenile squirrel usually hangs around my house, and seems to wait for us to notice he's there), but nothing like this squirrel. I doubt she'd like being inside that much.
well a lion female once took care of 8 - 9 deer baby's unfortunatly... they all died, either eaten, or starved cuz they coudn't get the milk from her...
it was quit amazing, i think you can find the hole think on animal planet webside or on google :) htye show the story sometimes on animal planet...
i think its great that animals has began to act more more sensible, they take crae of each others baby's like this cat! i thin its great! :D
I've seen something similar. My friends had a dog and they adopted an abandoned kitten they found. About 4 months later the kitten acted very similar to the dog. The funniest thing it did was beg at the dinner table.
Got the link for this via email, and I usually just delete a lot of those without even looking. SO glad I checked this out, totally gorgeous and a squirrel that purrs is beyond cute. As for us females who think 'inter-species' nursing is cute when animals do it, if it was possible for human milk to be given to animals and it was that or nothing to save an animals life, I'd do it, but by expressing and feeding, anything else would be classed as kind of WRONG ! :p
@DigitalSinner Don't worry, nature will be back to normal when the oxytocin wears off and the other kittens are old enough to eat meat. mmm.. milk fed squirrel. Of course they won't report that, it would bum out the viewers.
I wonder if any of the women who think it's cute when cats nurse squirrels would themselves nurse a chimp, or baby gorilla, or puppy. Is there a name for inter-species nursing? If not, there should be.
aw this is so cute... we feed squirrels in our back yard every morning... its gotten to a point that they'll take it from our fingers, through the door.
@QKlilx No... But when one of our dogs raised a baby duck, it used to pull on her nipples like it was nursing, and they loved each other for YEARS, licking/nuzzling each other's faces whenever the dog would go out into the back yard. It was so sweet. We even have video of that one. Maybe I should post it!
