Nice that you took the time to show us that a big scope can be handled by one person. I just hope that I won't be thought any less of for using a relatively lilliputian 8" :)
Could you please tell me what type of "dovetail" do you have on your C14? I think the saddle plate on your Losmandy mount is "Robin Casady". I have a C14 with a slide in dovetail and it is a pain to slide it on to the saddle plate of Losmandy G-11 mount. I am thinking of replacing both the dovetail and saddle plate. Thank you for your answer.
Usually people doing astrophotography post still pictures to a website. Right now I don't have the equipment to do astrophotography with the C14. I prefer to do visual observing, imaging requires a great deal of attention to capturing the image and then spending many hours processing it.
The C11 can be carried with one finger... I couldn't imagine the C14 being much worse. Girlie men, haha, good one. It's just a matter of balance I suppose. I love it when you bust out the "little refractor"!!
I've just finished cleaning (and tuning)a 25 dollar yard-sale Parks refractor(I retro'd a 1 1/4" 25 mm on it and it sparkles)....and then,I saw your video. I'm jealous.....btw,that wood tripod is a real beauty. I'm going to copy that spreader tray(for the Parks),if you don't mind. Have you ever considered using a keg barrel delivery rubber pad during handling procedures on asphalt and 'crete?
Thanks for your comments. You should be able to find additional pictures of the Berlebach to inspire you at tetontelescopes-dot-com or at Berlebach's website in Germany, berlebach-dot-de. The key to their design is the "snap on" clips to the legs, it's not just a gravity rest. They also have excellent clamps where leg and tripod head join, no play. Haven't heard of "keg barrel delivery rubber pads," will have to google them. Greg
@tim71pos Hmmm....street construction crews use a deployable free-standing red plastic lane marker/barricade pole with the same type of base(similiar to a keg delivery pad) I'm always seeing those (discarded by the roadsides)...and around the shop,they're excellent "drop pads".Or,consider ensolite.Losing control of a 5000 dollar 'scope looks kinda scary..btw,props for the Berlebach site. Beautiful stuff that sits well within the home (no doubt). Thanks again....

I too have a C14, and I have to agree with you that indeed it is a small, portable scope. It only LOOKS imposing.

I never thought the C14 was portable until you showed me

I'm not quite convinced. I think you need to buy me a C14 so I can truly compare it to my LX200 8".

thanks for your question.

@tim71pos
one more question how much did that cost lol?
monimstarfox 1 year ago
Well pardner, you proved it could be done, and also that although smaller than the Dob, it is still heavy.
When I think of the money involved in the scope, if it were mine, it would stay home, and something else would ride to my viewing.
Fortunately, my viewing spot is at home!

Heh,
As a older metal OTA C11 user myself, I appreciate and concur that larger aperture SCT's are a cinch to set up.
I did install new grab handles and control bars for better control.
The mods help, especially after three martinis.
We must unite and rule the weak.

@ChicagoAstronomer
Thanks I've received some comments about side-loading so I may have to do a "C14 Demo Part II". Greg
