  • that was horrible :/

  • As I commented on the first movement, out of tune!!!! When my high school band did this many years ago, we even sounded better than this! Sorry!

  • way to kill my boner

  • Blacksmith chord at the end; harmonious!

  • I definitely agree with fortetrumpetplayer. I play French Horn, and when we played this in 7th grade, we sounded way better. The second movement is known as either A Song Without Words, OR I'll Love My Love. It varies.

  • Gah the tuning is off and its noticeable...

  • yeah piccolo! :) i'm playing this in band right now and it helped to hear the piccolo solo :)

  • WOWOWWOWOWOOWOWOWO FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys are paying for my new hearing aide now....wow..tuning sucks sucks sucks...tuning, range, dynamics, and attacks are the most important things..sometimes more important then the piece itself... THESE ARE ESSENTIAL AND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SUPERIOR AND POOR. IF a real musical judge were to grade this, i'd say it would have been good....just because that's the second worse grade... D= work on it

  • lmao you guys call yourself a sr band??!!! wow

  • err isnt the first song called song without words?

  • the background is too loud, this is supposed to be a soft, sweet movement, featuring the flutes, clarinets and oboe, of which you can't hear well over the loud brass

  • AHHHHHH!!!!! CLARINETS!!!!! WORK ON THEM HIGH NOTES TOWARDS THE END OF THE FOURTH MOVEMENT!!!! PICOLLO KNOW HOW TO TRILL?? xD

  • The band is covering the melody, making the people with the melody play louder making them sound out of tune and splitting notes.

Dynamics are a huge problem and they didn't watch the conductor and they were cued a lot throughout the piece.

    Attack the note together.

  • TRUE!!!!! in movement ii. i play first clarinet and i at least play pp

  • wow, this is such a shame, ive played this song so many times and heard so many different versions and i have yet to hear one that sounded so bad, im sorry but goodness the students dont even know there parts, in the fourth movement the piccolo solo and the tuba solo? so many notes were missed.

  • AH!!!! I KNOW!!!! I PLAYED THE PICCOLO PART SOPHMORE YEAR AND THAT REALLY MADE ME FEEL GOOD IN A WAY BUT SORRY FOR THE BAND xD

  • OMG! THAT LAST CORD IN BLACKSMITH WAS SO BAD THAT I LAUGHED MYSELF TO TEARS. jesus christ, how could the conductor allow your band to perform like that

  • Holy **** what the hell was with your last chord on the blacksmith????????

and btw my middle school band sounded better playing this than u guys do

how come nobody can spell balance right??

  • wow the song is not that hard. going nowhere fast

  • In an older version of this piece, the solo was in the oboe with cues in the clarinet.

Overall, this group could use some work in fundamentals. Balance and intonation is lacking. Rhythmic accuracy could be improved by counting through subdivision. I'm sorry, but I don't feel the emotion in the 2nd mvt. It sounds like a loud, robotic race to the end. It almost sounds like the marching band is inside and playing Holst like it would on the football field.

  • What a disaster....

    the Second movement was okay..

the third and last are just too....

the third movement is not passionate enough, c'mon its a blacksmith, be strong! Its fotissimo and forte all the time in that movement!

And The last movement is toooo sloppy, and read your dynamics... The piece starts with pp not ff... dynamics ranges from pp to fff, better improve on that. Its loud all the way, and it shouldn't be....

  • ok the tuba at the end of the 4th movement was terrible tuning and yes again way too fast 2.5/10

  • tuning??

  • i have to agree with everyone else, balence and blend issues, specially in 2nd movement, but kinda everywhere else.

    Otherwise it was kinda alright

  • way better than MY class. not the best, though.

  • the tempo is too fast and it doesnt blend very well. this song is called i'll love my love, not i'll blast they're bloody eardrums out. it is supposed to be light and soft, it was a bit agressive

  • Actually it's a good tempo but everyone in the band isn't listening to the lead parts. Also, looking up at the conductor might help some. This is a group of really good young musicians that needs to learn how to play as an ensemble.

They need to tune, this much is true, but rhythm is everything. Everyone has to come in when they are supposed to or the piece will not sound as good(tuner or no tuner).

    How can you do this?

By looking at the conductor, who will cue in key parts if need be.

  • II was way too fast its supossed to be slow and... um good.

  • 2 words

    BLEND and BALENCE

and where are the tuners, the prodominant sax in "ill love my love: song without words" sounds off, and the song of the blacksmith? no, just no

thats a hard part thats why my school skiped that part, we didnt want to ruin a holst song...Fantasia on the Dargason was....just a resounding meh.. clarinets way overbalenced the flutes...baritones over the tubas, and the flute was way quiet with the tuba/flute complimentary part leading up to the flute trill....

  • ew thats horriblee

  • Maybe the teacher lost their tuners? xD

  • I love YouTube lol.

  • holy shit it's not that bad.

  • Well, you can't say that it was all that good either, lol.

    The last chord...eek.

  • Actually,

    It is.

  • This is GARBAGE!!! Trash!!! This is a disgrace to HOLST! The intonation sucks!! How could u even let ur students play this knowing that they are not at that level yet???? Someone needs to do something about this. Get some people to come in and help this band! GOSHH!!!! YUCKK!!!!

  • If the tuning was good and the pyramid of sound was more in play this would have been a very well played piece.

  • AUGH!!! the inonation is terrible! and the balence really needs serious attention...sorry, just being honest! we are playing this right now in band.

  • i wish you guys had gotten the end of, "Song of the Blacksmith" right. its realy cool when played well.

  • THIS IS RUBBISH!!

no offence, but the tuning is awful and people are splitting notes everywhere.

  • please there has to be something you guys can do about your intonation....

  • omg...not good at all im sry...dragging like crazy..some sight intonation problems to. No blending at all. Way to much high try listen more down to the bottom...this is a wonderful song its not post to be played like this

  • Why in the world would you double the clarinet solo with an oboe!? Aside from unneeded thicking of the texture, those two instruments are very hard to tune together, and it sounds kind of out of tune.

  • The third movement has some really questionable moments. Some slight dragging, people not coming in together, and some of the chords get bashed. Especially the last one. That's really bad. Some performers are sticking out in this movement. Not that good.

  • This isn't the best cover of it I've heard but, I'll tell you what I can feel the moment the piece begins: Emotion and Power. And that's why I love this. The chords are well played. They're loud and supported but, they don't drown out the melody. This is a really good cover. I can feel the emotion in the 2nd movement and I truly love that. Kudos, I really like it.
