Sometimes i wonder what would have happened if Layne was still here but, like they say the good ones always leave us to soon. When i listen to AIC that voice is so amazing and so unique and I hope he is in peace that he always wanted to have. RIP Layne
@13demarie no, you're right. =P imo, sully erna does that shit pretty bad. Godsmack's an AiC song, they ripped off the sun logo, voodoo is almost identical to a mad season song... fucking a. wannabe.
@13demarie i think maybe what he meant was that there is no other like layne staley so lets see you try to sing equal to him. idk thats just what i got out of it
@13demarie lots of people have tried to sound like Layne. Their is no one like Layne. Just like nobody can ever match Chris Cornell or Eddie Vedder. They just stand alone and there isn't enough talent out there to touch these guys.
the first time i heard this song it made me so sad but, i loved it. This song is right and real about drug! All i could say about this is that layne found the peace he was looking for and the angels are keeping him company so he won't feel the lonleyness he felt. I will always believe layne was AIC without him the band will never be the same. I will always love you layne.
If you listen to Layne, he will even tell you in his words how much it felt great but how fucked up it made him, and in the end how it ruined him, theres no excuses. We all do what we do. Sometimes people step in when we make mistakes and we are saved, sometimes that doesnt happen. The idea with infinity in reality, is, simply put, everything happens, because everything is possible. Otherwise we would all be the same or some shit like that.
@danauthor99 I think it's wrong to judge Amy without actually knowing her. TBH you didn't know Staley either so you're kind of making assumptions as well.
I'm not sure if I asked this before or if I asked about a different song, Does anyone know the lyrics to this?? Thanks to PJ for paying respect to the great one -cool thing to do.
I only now know that April 20th is the day he was found...now I'll be listening to Alice in Chains while I smoke pot at the legislative building in Winnipeg. RIP Layne Staley, and thank you.
I light a candle for you Layne, as i curl in my cold be too sleep, I listen to your voice as it crawls into my skin, I feel your pain in my soul and relate to everyword...This song echos around my vains and paints how we all miss you... lets not forget the beautful music you made, and what a special spirit you are.... RIP
I'm two days into a kick, and I started the music today with Dam That River cuz it was how I felt. I somehow ended up here, with this song I hadn't heard before in tribute to the man who took the most beautiful voice I've ever heard to the grave with him. What I feel today suddenly feels so small, and so do I.
This song is beautiful, Eddie. Layne was beautiful, and I'm glad for the time he spent here. This is the most heartfelt and emotional tribute song to him. If only he could hear it. If only he could come back and be whole. If only he'd never left us. Rest easy, Layne. Your friends, family, and fans keep you alive.

I remember the moment I heard of Laynes death because I was in my car driving to a out-patient drug rehab session. How ironic for me because I loved the band and the man, the voice and soul of AIC. Still miss him and now Mike too. That music got me through some dark times. Anyone thinking of doing that first needle- don't do it. It is nothing but pain and misery. Love and miss you Layne. RIP brother
Well done Eddie. Very Beautiful song...to make such a beautiful tribute song after only a day of finding out Layne's passing...very emotional, very raw.
rust in peace layne. the pain is gone for you but reminds us daily of the personal finger print you left on the world you once graced. you will continue to rock on in the hearts and minds of many
Not a big Pearl Jam fan but no one can argue just how real Eddie Vedder is. He has a heart that you can feel in his writing and the way he expresses his lyrics. I admire him for his honesty. If I song writer cannot be real he is not worth the paper he is writing on.
R.I.P. Layne! Always remember you, thanks for your music, and am grateful to life because it gave me the opportunity to have lived in your era ... Wherever you are you can rest assured that you left a great legacy .... Thanks Layne, rest in peace! : (
Dear Layne, April 5th I light a candle for you, but it's everyday I think about you; I don't miss or love you more today than any other day. Your spirit always lives on, immortality through songs. We miss you...

@KELITATH I'm sorry but Amy Winehouse can't even be uttered in the same breath as Layne Staley, honestly what musical impact as she had on the world? Yeah she had a good voice, but she was also a rich, spoilt brat who was used to getting her own way, who was constantly on drugs so she could party... First time I heard this song I knew nothing of it; but I could definitely tell who it was about and I sat there as it put me in a deep depressing daze. It moved me.
So sing just like him.. Fuckers.. It won't offend him.. Just me.. Because he's dead..
Eddie by God Vedder.. Eddie is pushing 50.. Layne would have been 44 this year, as would Kurt.. So much good shit left to rot.. Both a massive loss to rock n roll.. Glad Eddie is still writing and singing., Keeps all of this alive for others to see what good shit can come of music, and what horrific shit can come of drugs when you aren't careful.. Think I'll smoke now and go listen to Alice and find Nirvana..
@kirbuson Alice in Chains wrote seven songs in seven days known to be Jar of Flies. (Not boasting about who is better, just simply putting that out there for knowledge.)
man, i'm really impressed by this one, most tribute tracks come off forced and kinda lame to me but this is poetic and heartfelt to say the least.only Ed could've pulled one off this great.
People should just learn to respect other musicians on here. DO NOT comment on how Layne was 'better' than some other dead musicians, it's not fair and it's disrespectful. Layne was beautiful and may he be at peace now :')
this song always makes me cry... it's a tribute to all addicts. i don't know anyone who is an addict but i can feel the pain just by listening to this. only eddie can do that. and of course layne could...
This song is heavy as hell. Straight up, honest, and a big middle finger to Godsmack. Love it, I don't listen to much Pearl Jam, but much respect to Vedder for writing this. You can hear the pain in his voice.
Why the fuck are all the top rated comments judging other musicians? Elvis fucking rocks, I'm not a fan of MJ, but w.e, and a hell of a lot of people care about Kurt. Why we have to live in so much hate, every day?
@lxa9466 FYI I wasnt judging other musicians just simply expressing how much more important Layne was to me than say other musicians who receive much more praise than he does.
I agree that alternative rock has become the mainstream and the majority of it is over indulgent or completely detached emotionally. But I hold faith that with these youngsters crying for substance in their music, that hopefully they'll pick up an instrument and pour their hearts into it, that's the only way it will ever change. If you have something to say, say it, and say it loud!
I am a kid, but if anyone wants to take me seriously, please read.
Even though I'm only 14, I only listen to music before the 2000's. I don't have a hate against the year, just good music seemed to die after the 90's. What's even more disappointing to me is that the only hope for music is people my age, and 90% or more listen to absolute shit. If there isn't a movement soon, everyone will listen to that and electronic music will take over real musical talent. It's actually sad.
@Ecolah97 Same here. Music seemed to lose meaning after the 90's. I'm 16, and I would rather listen to real music, like this song, than the stupid shit that's out these days. I like to be able to relate to a song that I'm listening to, and I cannot relate to these songs that talk about screwing bitches. Lol
I think even if he didnt die because he got clean....he wouldnt still be playing with AIC because he kinda hated them when he died but idk....RIP Layne....Your me hero.
@sickstar14 your a major moron. look what you just said here!!! you should be dropped off on the moon and left there. unless your just being sarcastic which there is no room for it here than i dunno man. look at all the lives it takes cant believe it dude.

kirbuson 1 year ago 3
@kirbuson Alice in Chains wrote seven songs in seven days known to be Jar of Flies. (Not boasting about who is better, just simply putting that out there for knowledge.)

@CovertCrisis I know, right? Fricken' amazing!
Don't worry, Alice in Chains are my joint second favourite (along with Blind Melon)

man, i'm really impressed by this one, most tribute tracks come off forced and kinda lame to me but this is poetic and heartfelt to say the least.only Ed could've pulled one off this great.

RIP Layne Staley, the 13 who were senslessly murdered at Columbine Highschool, and all who died in the Oklahoma City bombing on April 20.

Why the fuck are all the top rated comments judging other musicians? Elvis fucking rocks, I'm not a fan of MJ, but w.e, and a hell of a lot of people care about Kurt. Why we have to live in so much hate, every day?
lxa9466 1 year ago 5
@lxa9466 FYI I wasnt judging other musicians just simply expressing how much more important Layne was to me than say other musicians who receive much more praise than he does.

What's the difference between Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson ?

Ecolah97 1 year ago 3
@Ecolah97 Same here. Music seemed to lose meaning after the 90's. I'm 16, and I would rather listen to real music, like this song, than the stupid shit that's out these days. I like to be able to relate to a song that I'm listening to, and I cannot relate to these songs that talk about screwing bitches. Lol

@riolinda91695673 stop watching mtv and listening to the radio, then maybe you will find some music you're looking for!
