  • rock stars, dude. dude, rock stars

  • SO in tune <3

  • and somehow we've gone from this to christina aguilera who can't even remember the lyrics

  • goosebumps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm sure there is a women's barbershop arrangement of it. I sing with my local Sweet Adelines chorus. It's lots of fun.

  • What arrangement is that? Is there a women's version?

  • Goosebumps. Every single time I listen to this, I get goosebumps.

  • Wow, doing that in front of 50,000 people must be killer.

  • Yeah...I guess I'd cheer like crazy, too if four guys made it seem like there were 1,000 in the middle of a football stadium

  • these guys won nationals around the time I was born. I'm glad:) "1993"

  • that gave me gooesbumpss too the maxxxx

  • Thumbs up if you just watched this after Christina Aguilera just butchered the hell out of our national anthem :~/

  • This is such a stirring rendition, and I just love how they casually walk off at the end like "aw, no big deal...." Very talented!

  • wow if this dont give ya goosebumps nothing will wow. GHG great job. Miss Rob for sure. Wow what an arangement. You could tell by the crowds reactions how good it was. LaMar Elliott-Capital City Barbershop Chorus- Topeka Ks

  • Their voices together are like smooth chocolate milk.

  • amazing rendition of the anthem.... saudações de Portugal!

  • WOW!!!!!

  • I so love this song, not because it's the Star Spangled Banner, it's because theie singing it.. !!! <3 lolx.. !

  • Goosebumps.....

  • Best part of watching the Rams play...

  • i always get the chills listining to the american anthem Proud to be USAF!

  • OH! By the way, there's a football game after. You're all welcome to stay, if you want.

  • does anyone know what arrangement this is?

  • Could anyone top that for a start to a Football game? Couldnt feel more proud at the moment.

  • That was really good! Kipp Buckner is one of the best tenors of all time!

  • pahahaAhA! that was soo awesome. although i LOVE all the applause, i wish the crowd would shutup so we could hear them finish!! awesomelicious. What the world would be like with a little more barbershop

  • i got the goosebumps, and i don't get those too often. beautifully done.

  • @JDtagster I'm with you on the goosebumps.

  • incredible

  • funny thing is they didn't add the tag

  • Like I've said before and in complete agreement with all other posts, hands-down the best version of the anthem EVER! and I don't just mean for quartets. For me the rush is a) the crowd quiets before the big ending and b) the absolutely erupt (I feel) because of how they go up on the word "the" of "the brave". Nobody puts emphasis on this word. The crowd doesn't expect it and with the harmony they knock I out of the park.

  • total standing ovation for sure

  • didn't know if anyone noticed but the guy singin bass in this group is the current bass in the Crossroads quartet... he's amazing

  • Yeah, that's Jim Henry. He's great.

  • I don't care how many times I hear that, or that it's only the last half. That is pure gold. No one has been able to do that song better, and I've heard some good barbershop groups try.

  • It gives me tingles. I must say though, Rich Knight is one of my favorite leads.

  • I love this..

Give me a message if you want to have the full mp3 version..

  • Full Mp3 sung by Gas House Gang?

  • Yeah, I am interested in the full mp3

  • would like the full version if you have it...

  • @FunkerPunkerJunker This is great. Where Can I get the whole recording?

  • @FunkerPunkerJunker i want to have it please!

  • @FunkerPunkerJunker Please!!!

  • @FunkerPunkerJunker I POSTED THE FULL MP3 VERSION ON MY CHANNEL.. NO FAKE. COME AND VISIT MY CHANNEL!

  • usual yank crowds, cant wait to start clapping and cheering so we miss the best bits!!,have some respect and shut the fuck up and listen!!!

  • That chord at 0:44

  • One word... Epic.

  • Others can jazz it up all they want and call that proper singing for the anthem. But, not me...I can listen to that style of the anthem all day long. That's the way it should be sung. God-Bless the U.S.A!

  • GooseBumps - This is a perfect example of what happens when you really know what you are doing ... Very Well Done ! I'd also like to find the full version and I'll check Limewire. Thank You.

  • when this quartet was competing in the international championships of the barbershop quartet contest, they got a similar response at the end of one of their songs, where the fans were pounding the seats in the concert hall about 10 seconds before the song was over...I don't know if you can find it on you tube, but it was "Bright Was the Night", in New Orleans, in 1992

  • That was one of the most historic barbershop moments of all time. There have been many, but that is one that stands out.

  • you can see the lead (Rick Knight, second from the right) this week in Music Man at the Muny Opera in St. Louis

  • that was amazing

  • that was phenomenal

  • Go Rams! For those of you that love this version they have the full high quality version on LimeWire.

  • This is absolute perfection...great job

  • shivers from 0:31

  • Yeah, that just got saved as a favorite

  • shivvers

  • that made my willy twinge

  • that's how it should be done, no vocal show offs, just the Star-Spangled Banner in all its beauty.... 5 stars from the UK

  • By far this is the best arrangement i have ever heard of the national anthem even though it started from the second half of the song...gas house gang will go down as one of the greatest barbershop quartets ever

  • The arrangement in the first half is just as good - in that it fits with the whole thing and develops wonderfully while leading into the second half. My quartet has sang it and I've heard recordings of the whole thing. It is arranged by Jim Clancy and it is one of the best musical examples of anything I can think of.

  • Do you have a copy of the sheet music or know where I could get it for my quartet?

  • Just contact Jim Clancy or otherwise search online for info about Star Spangled Banner and Jim Clancy.

  • Wow gives me shivers every time I hear it.

  • same here.

  • DAT WAS SOO COOL I CANT EXPLAIN IT!! :)

  • Absolutely the best I've ever heard. Really enjoyed their William Tell Overture clip before You Tube yanked it due some kind of infringement. Takes special genius to perform at their level.

  • When the crowd is cheering so loudly that you can't hear the group, you know that you've done something right. God bless these guys.

  • Goosebumps at 00:46

  • epic...i want to see the whole thing

  • i luv tha gas house gang!!

  • AMAZING!!!!!

  • goose bumps that was truly amazing

  • this is one of the most beautiful vocal arrangements i have ever heard so far..

    rest in peace rob!

  • this version was arranged by Jim Clancy, if you want the sheet music you just hafta contact him. it's the same arrangement as Acoustix sang, but GHG just chose not to sing the ending America part, even tho it is written in the music.

  • God I miss these guys - they really were something to see in person.

    Awesome!

  • i'd fucking kill to hear the recording!!

please upload if you have it!

  • man what i would do to hear the whole thing. does anyone know where i can get the sheet music for this?

  • so amazing

  • check out gas house gang's version of 'brother can you spare a dime' for more goosebumps!

  • Wonderful!!!!!!

  • great quartet great singing thanx for post

  • That's how it's done.

  • aww they didnt do their signature america part at the end! :(

  • Wasn't that the Acoustix?

  • Maybe, but I just know that this star spangled banner arrangement is the same one that ended in the americas. I think it was this group, but it could have been the Acoustics doing the same arrangement. You know all those good Babershop groups all sound so similar, its hard to tell whos who.

  • I'm sure if they did that everyone would be going wtf. All I know is on the ending of the National Anthem everyone as you can tell is screaming there lungs out. Maybe at a concert or show but not at a sporting event.

  • Because people are already cheering by the time they end Brave. I sang the arrangement with the America's at one of my games with my quartet and people were just kind like, "Oh, they're still going..wtf?". Trust me, you'd understand.

  • I do have a gold medal, and I know the Gas House Gang very personally. I'll spare you the embarrassment though.

  • i believe we have had a misunderstanding... i thought you were slashing at the GHG... my bad, and i apologize, after reading your comment a few more times it made more sense, at first glance it appears as though you were poking fun at the fact that people were cheering before the end of the tag, which they were but not in a bad way and it appeared at first that you thought they were cheering because "wtf they are still singing?" stuck out a little audaciuosly. What quartet did you sing with?

  • Better start re-reading posts before throwing spontaneous fits :P

then again, it's pretty entertaining :D

  • it was a simple mistake, rub it in a bit why don't ya? hahah

  • *cough* look at the title, its the Gas House Gang...

  • unbelievable... wow..sounds like 10 guys...

  • I keep watching this clip over and over, and it just keeps getting better and better EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I. WATCH. IT!

  • The Dixie Chicks and this is my favorite. If you haven't seen the Dixie Chicks sing the national anthem check it out on my channel! A MUST SEE!

  • I love the chords

  • I've searched dozens of versions of the US Anthem, and this is hands-down my favorite version (and I'm Canadian). Especially the last line where they put the emphasis on "th-the" Brave. You hear the crowd quiet just before that; and all go nuts at the end because they didn't expect that ending. Excellent. My second favorite version is the Dixie Chicks -- very solid. After that, the SuperBowl a couple of years ago with the 1/2band 1/2 choir rendition.

  • wish the whole song was up :(

  • how can i get a recording of this

    ????

  • man i wish this was Australia could have this tune

  • Come on.... Our anthem and words suck, but only because all the convicts over on the east coast voted for it! The South Australian submission for the national anthem of Australia, the "Song of Australia" is much better! Still, the best anthem tune (by far) is the Welsh national anthem!!

  • Don't worry, we sing it with pride cause we've done alot in 200 years. It ain't that good in all honosty, but were proud of it and francis scott key.

  • This is the way the anthem should be sung...no fancy frills or additions...incredible job

  • I love O Canada!!!! THe SSB is a rocking anthem too - my favorite version is the Dixie Chicks super bowl one.

For the best instrumental version of OCanada, check out the one they played at the Torino Olympics.

  • I love the 7th chord at the end..... so fkn awesome <3

  • do you mean the "land of the fr-land of the freeeeeeee" part?

  • goosebumps!

  • Stunning. Makes me proud to be an American, despite the fact I'm English.

  • lol

  • Not much of a song, terrible songwriting, but great singing!!! ;) (<-Canadian)

  • hahaha =)

    hush, or you'll start a war! =)

  • With who, the US or the guy who wrote the song? ;)

  • the US! There are plenty of US Patriots out there that would stab you for thrash-talking the "Star Sprangled Banner"...

I'm not one of them though, I just thought I'd warn ya =)

  • Thanks for the warning. Although not necessary, the Canadian military could take yas... Providing you didn't see us coming until it was too late and all your armed forces personnel died of laughter ;) lol God bless America (God help the rest of us)

  • lol like "O Canada" is a real toe tapper...

  • Haha ;) It is that - if u like real slow, mellow tunes ;)

  • lol I'm Canadian, and i think O Canada is terrible. SSB is a way better musical composition

  • lol I'm Canadian, and i think O Canada is terrible. SSB is a way better musical composition

  • Careful, you don't want to start a civil war ;) I agree - O Canada's a little on the boring side - except that crescendo near the end... lol

  • haha the grass is always greener on the other side.

I think O Canada is a better song

"listening to this makes me proud to be american..."

  • no?

I still like the star spangled banner, but I like O Canada better

  • Now there is some serious singing talent.

  • BRAVO!!!!! That is the best barbershop quartet national anthem EVER!!!!! There isnt another barbershop group better than these guys!! My favorite part is the chord shift at the end. Around 0.45 sec. Nobody does it like that!!!!!

  • wow, this is my favourite rendition of the anthem...unbelievable, and surprisingly i came across an MP3 of their studio-recorded version of this - it sounds amazing but it's harder to pick out which parts are which because the sound is so uniform. If anyone's interested, maybe I could post it online to be downloaded...

  • DO IT! Sorry, but I don't think I can merely type how urgent it is you post it...for the betterment of music-kind.

  • haha how should I post it??...

  • a blank video with just the music, perhaps?

  • where did you find the mp3 anyways?

  • That is how the Star Spangled Banner should be performed. Major goosebumps... every time you hear it. It's amazing... Just about every response talks about the goosebumps.

  • This is incredible.

  • At the end of that, that crowd was going so loud, I didn't even hear them end the song!

  • 0.45 thats the shit, the dam fine hardcore shit

  • I am sure that the spectators in the stadium werent all barbershoppers.. but they still went crazy to the harmonics of GHG..

  • or it's been a recent tradition to cheer 5-12 seconds before the song's even over.

  • Gas House Gang singing Star Spangled Banner @ Rams Football Game 2000

  • at :27, my goose-bumps actually have goose-bumps everytime I hear this.

  • Awesome...

  • The arrangement is by Jim Clancy, director of the Vocal Majority (and one heck of an arranger).

  • does someone have the full version of this?

  • What version is this?

  • i got goosebumps goin around my head.. i was no expecting some of those chords... NICE. 5 stars..

  • I get shivers down my spine when I watch this, and I'm not very patriotic

  • A couple of years after I first saw this on their website, and it's STILL my favorite rendition. Goose bumps, welling eyes, and pride every time I hear it. Thanks guys, for an OUTSTANDING job!

  • listening to this makes me proud to be american

  • It was a home game for the St Louis Rams....vs the Raiders

  • Don't forget also that this took place before 9/11 when it really wasn't the thing to pay attention to the anthem and applaud accordingly... and this crowd cheers like the Rams just scored a touchdown. Powerful stuff indeed. Love GHG so much.

  • where was this game and who for?

  • GOOSE BUMPS!

  • that's so cool

  • that was beautiful

  • Yes, i dont know biologically why, but it does give goosebumps!- beyond music, all 4 firing simultaneously incredible

  • lol this... is a high potent mixture of patriotism and barbershop musicality..

  • it is to do with harmonics. A strange thing happens when certain tones come together. If you hit the harmony absolutely spot on, then this can generate another hidden harmony that is not actualy being sung. It can happen in any genre of music, but close harmony (aka barershop), human, singing will give you ;goosebumps:.

  • Not in any genre. Only those genres that use true Just Intonation tuning. The 12tET scale used in the vast majority of modern Western Civilization music, including just about everything done using most any musical instruments, is in 12tET, and has NO audible harmonic reinforcement effects (overtones, undertones, expanded sound, etc.) except in unison and pure octave passages.

  • to the ppl who cant tell, my guess would b: (from left to right) mezzo tenor, bass, baritone, tenor.

  • from left to right, bari, bass, lead, tenor

  • i hate when people guess things like that...ITS CALLED BARBERSHOP HARMONY!!!

  • If you want more bbs videos, tags, 2007 denver competition sets please post a thread at the barbershop community board on youtube... The link is on my page...

  • As an aspiring bass at very young age i loved to hear you amazing bass i memorized the part and it is my favorite version of all the different kinds i have heard

  • who wrote that version, cause im looking for a good version for my choir to sing

  • I think its Jim Clancy's.

  • oh my hackysack, Goosebumps upon multiple Goosebumps.

    absolutely fricken amazing

  • totatly am with TheRotoKing with this one!! That was the best ending I've heard in a LONG time. AMAZING!!!

  • Goosebumps? For me every hair on my arms was standing at full attention, and ½ of them SALUTED!!

  • The best quartet ever!!!!!!!!!! God bless you guys!

  • It's amazing to watch barbershop anthems on TV--they always get the best reception from the crowd...makes one wonder why it isn't more of a mainstream thing.

  • indeed...it should be!

  • Partly because it's so hard to record and mic it well, and is seldom done correctly. If Barbershop is recorded or miced as would be proper for most other musical styles, you'd just hear four guys singing (however beautifully), but not the awesome overtones, undertones, and other harmonic reinforcement that only Barbershop does so well.

  • The guy on your right (their left) is the tenor. His name is Kipp Buckner.

  • chills! every time I watch this. :D

  • Have I ever mentioned that I hate it when people start wooing and clapping 15 seconds before the National Anthem ends? I WANT TO LISTEN TO THE REST OF THE SONG!!

  • Agreed wholeheartedly, but really, can you blame them? Consider that time after time, these people had to stand there and grimace as pop star after country star after rap star after opera singer after Rosie O'Donnell types mangle our beloved Anthem, and then they hear THIS. Who could resist applauding?

Though, they really should have waited until after the singing stopped.

  • ahhhhhhhhh man that ending
