Like most rivers in Norway, the Alta isn't half the river it used to be. Salmon face many problems and guys like this one are right up there. Greed is written all over his smug face.
@iveriveriver i think You should keep your opinions to yourself. That may be the way you fish (if you even do fish), but it doesnt mean everyone should do things like you do. Why shouldn't this man keep the fish that he rightfully caught and have a nice big dinner feast with his family. I'm not saying that sportfishing is stupid, it's a fun pastime, but just think that our ancesters used to live off of fishing and hunting. Nice fish catching btw :).
thats a huge fish...by the way is possible to go fishing the Alta river in norway??like here in Newfoundland rivers?how much it does it cost to get a permit?
@CanadianFlyFisher Do you eat fish? Do you think it is better to eat a fish from a supermarket (or similar) when you have no connection to it's life and the life that was taken from it, OR would it be better to kill it yourself and so to come to know how precious your food is?
@CanadianFlyFisher hey jack ass whats the point of releasing a fish thats gonna die anyways?????i agree with mrblackarrow eating a salmon from a resturant or a store is for woman real men catch theyre dinner!!!!!
@funnyguyzlol " whats the point of releasing a fish thats gonna die anyways". You should release it because it hasn't spawned yet. By keeping it ,that fish didn't even get a chance to continue on to its spawning grounds. Atlantic Salmon don't die after spawning like some of the pacific varieties. They leave the river, feed in the ocean, and then return to the river to spawn again.
@fishinNS It is also possible that it is a repeat spawner that has already spawned previous years. Therefore it did pass on it's genetics. Some of those salmon are definitely past age class 1 and have probably already contributed to the gene pool. Also salmon stop eating when they make their migrations. By angling you are taking crucial and limited energy that it needs to make it to the spawning grounds. If you do angle a salmon and release it there is a good chance it will die before spawning.
@opeth867 I agree with you that it most likely has spawned before due to the size of it. We have different opinions and if you're anything like me your not going to change your opinion. So lets just leave it at that.
@CanadianFlyFisher STFU IDIOT! its a personal choice of a fisherman to keep his catch or release. If your in your rights a fresh caught salmon is best tasting thing ever. Why dont you go eat some freak of nature farmed salmon that kills all our wild fish. . .Think before you post next time.
I think it's a shame to kill such a giant fish, it takes a lifetime for it to grow to such proportions ! But still.. beautiful place for fishing, the nature and the abundance of fish population, you're lucky to be there !!

If you keep killing the salmon in Norway you can kiss them good bye! Perhaps you will learn about hook and release before it is too late.
