@pownedbyeass i don't think you're a pilot if you don't even know flaps are down certain degrees on takeoff depending on the weight of the aircraft and the runway condition.
Also, if you are a pilot I expect your English to be a little better than what I just read.
@miamicanesfan01 the do use hand controls, but instead of a yoke between your legs its a sidestick off to the left if your the captain and to the right if your the FO
Could anybody tell me the function of the small rectangular screens either side of the lower ECAM display and above each MCDU? Also to any modern airbus pilot... On a reduced thrust takeoff, by moving the thrust levers into the flex gate, does that allow the auto throttle system to manipulate the levers to acheive the correct EPR setting? Also does the FMGS calculate the EPR required for a given flex temperature with regards to runway length etc? Many thanks
No. The Throttle Levers remain in the FLEX/MCT detent. in fact, at the stage of the game Auto-thrust is not on. Auto-thrust is activated once the aircraft is at thrust reduction altitude and the levers are moved into the CL Detent. Then Autothust becomes active. On take-off there is no need to regulate the thrust.. to maintain speed at this stage of the game.. you just Follow the SRS and pitch the nose up or down to keep the speed...
Because some flights are so long that we need 3 pilots to fly the aircraft to ensure we can rest during the flight. At takeoff or landing everybody is in the flight deck. that's why..
Nice vid tho i love boeing haha but oh well just couldn't resist in taking a look at the flightdeck during takeoff as i will be on a klm A330 next month to calgary :)
On long flights where the maximum working period is exceeded we fly the trip
With tree pilots. So we can rotate positions a take the a rest.
@ tom888uk
The requirement of a flight engineer has more to do with the capability of the aircraft to detect malfunctions than it has to do with the flight instruments
Thanks for the reply. I take it that all the KLM A330 are equipped with GE engine. As a pilot yourself, do you have any preference over which type of engine is mounted on the A330?
Well because indeed all KLM A330 are equipped with GE engine I can't really tell you which engines I would prefer because I not flown any A330's with for instants rolls roys engines. But I can tell you that the GE engines are very reliable and spool up really quickly for such a big a-c
You're right my mistake. Detroit will also be flown with the airbus. Indeed the Dallas flight was doing fine, it amazes me that they will immediately start with daily flights. That is quite unusual for a new destination.
lol i am pilot 22years en the needed to do the flaps up for takeoff im dutch plus i em e pilot

I fly alot in this plane in my fligt simulator

@LukeEvans26 the small rectangular screens are for ACARS - which is like text messages sent to the pilots.

on the airbus long haul it gets very boring 10%flight at setting plane 4%talking and the rest doing nothing
PilotInCommand100 2 years ago
The same story with all boeings, with modern flightdeck. ;) LNAV, VNAV - the same thing, only different names.

what's your position in the cockpit? are you the flight engineer?
BrianGriffin66 3 years ago
there arent any flight engineers on glass cockpit aircaft.
RexBanner1980 3 years ago 2
This is probably the jumpseat
cvishwin 3 years ago 2
What happens when you replace the analogue flight instruments with 1 glass panel? You still need an engineer without EFIS/EICAS
tom888uk 3 years ago
Not strictly true.
There's still a few engineers on the 744. Depends on the airline. F/E's are very rare on glass-cockpit aircraft.
B757204 3 years ago
Hello sorry for my late response,
But no there is no flight engineer position on the A330.
Flight engineers are more of a thing from the past.
The A330 has very sophisticated computers witch monitor nearly
all parameters of the aircraft. Whenever the warning system detects
an abnormality it will sent us an ecam message, either an "master caution"
or a "master warning" depending on the severity.

what engines are on the Airbus 330 in this video?
chaucibai2 3 years ago
this one has the General Electric CF6-80E1A3
chalaska123 3 years ago
Hi Chaucibai,
Well because indeed all KLM A330 are equipped with GE engine I can't really tell you which engines I would prefer because I not flown any A330's with for instants rolls roys engines. But I can tell you that the GE engines are very reliable and spool up really quickly for such a big a-c
chalaska123 3 years ago
Will you just be flying the Airbus widebody jet in the KLM fleet or the company will switch their pilots around to fly other types of widebody jet?
chaucibai2 3 years ago
Well at the moment I only fly airbus. But you can change the aircraft you fly every few years based on you're seniority within the company.
chalaska123 3 years ago
Are you the captain or the first officer? How many hours have you logged on the A 330?
chaucibai2 3 years ago
You're right my mistake. Detroit will also be flown with the airbus. Indeed the Dallas flight was doing fine, it amazes me that they will immediately start with daily flights. That is quite unusual for a new destination.
chalaska123 4 years ago
Yes I am a pilot for KLM. But it is funny that you mention Dallas fort worth. Indeed KLM has starter a daily flights to
DFW this day. The Airbus A330 is also going to do this stretch.I am actually scheduled to do that flight In a month or so.
chalaska123 4 years ago
A ok I understand the mix-up, that was actually another flight I flew.
But indeed ATL can be a b*tch when you have a scheduled departure time in the peak hours
Especially when there are some thunderstorms (CB's) on de SID route.
chalaska123 4 years ago
Hi, Thanks
This flight was actually heading towards Ethiopia, Addis Ababa.Via Sudan, Khartoum. But you're right KLM uses the A330 on flights to Atlanta GA.
