as much as love grungy alternitive bands like nirvana and such, i do find it refreshing when a band can actually do some sweet clean solos....cool song!!
@EyEqUbE1 - interesting story - when JA were touring RDLH, the Pumpkins got an opening slot for them, making Billy Corgan one of Chicago's most hated men in music. Well, on the road to being............
Its got the same Bonham stomp as Janes, and the huge solos too. Just one side of the Pumpkins.
What made this so epic at the time: it was goddamn funky. I mean, you can actually dance to this shit. Same with that big riff from "Bury Me". It was miles from the plodding sludge rock sound so popular at the time, and sounded fresh even if some hated it or dismissed it as "hippie" or "psych".
Man, i remember hearing the riff at 1:12 on a Haro freestyle bike video when i was in middle school and was like WOW, who is this playing. I sold my bike, bought a strat, big muff pedal and a marshall amp. Gish was one of the best albums of the 90's hands down.
all I listen to now is Pumpkins bootlegs... I haven't heard the original in so long, I was surprised when he didn't say "dig it in the motherfuckin world I peel"
The lyrics posted are completely wrong.i spin off and lose my head, gather strength down in my heel, i don t live -i inhale, stars full of wishes fill our beds...
by the way this song is a ROCK dynamite!i like the change from quite to heavy parts.this technic is corgan`s most brilliant offer on rock music.(the old)pumpkins rule!
@RedSkyBlues Why do people talk bad about The New Smashing Pumpkins in a world filled with Rap, Hip-Hop, and Pop we should support The New Smashing Pumpkins and stop crying and acting like babies because it's not Siamese Dreams or Melancholy And The Infinite Sadness.
@GRUNGERINNIRVANA Personally Siamese Dream is their best album to me simply because of the Summer sunny day nostalgic vibe it gives off. But none of the albums have been disappointing. Id say start off with Gish and work your way along. Every album has something you will like.
wow.. i always liked the pumpkins but i never knew they could shred me into a coma only to awake to white sheets. i dont have white sheets... i must have had intense orgasms for the entirety of the coma.
@Eifler121 They only resorted to electric drums in the album adore which is their fourth studio album. And around this time drummer jimmy chamberlin got kicked out of the band for doing heroin on the mellon collie tour.(A whole different story) So they didn't have a drummer to record with for adore which was their next album. So they used electric drums.
I hear a lot of Janes Addiction undertones in this that I never noticed back in the day? anyone eles with me on this? I am not saying they copied or anything.....just a lot of simular notes and feel
@usernamegivemeabreak well, they came along just as Janes were splitting up (the first time), so it's just that "Janes-ness" that drew us to them in the first place. (prob wasn't intentional, but was a plus-point) . Both good, we need more music like this (and JA) these days.
god he was crazy to shave off his hair.. he looked alot better with iit... every musician looses their "powers" when they cut thier hair off... it took them awhile but they finally lost their powers lol... i dnt like the newer album... its not as... awesome... idk
I'm just comparing "Tarantula" on Letterman to the "Gish"period....man what the hell always seems to happen to every super great band....the first 3-5 years are cool but then they fragment into schizophrenia or something....the money and fame just corrupts into everything/ego's etc....This was such an awesome line-up...full of spirit...Tarantula is a good song too but the band had already done itself in by then...the hunger was gone.Rock on.
some people play down their involvement because they weren't technically as good as billy or jimmy but james and d'arcy were the heart of the band. Today the Pumpkins are simply a Billy Corgan side project.
@MrG75 i agree...i have alot of fond memories from back in hs.. im old enough now to appreciate them though..i wouldnt want to change being 34 for the world.
