Pointing at Google is good I think but completely futile. The US Government announced that the entire web had been virtualized in 2004. This along with other passed bills and practices essentially means that government knows every single keystroke you make while you are connected. Since they also know your exact location via billing, utilities, and your mobile devices, they basically know everything in real-time.

I think it's EVIL but people don't seem to care. Just look at Facebook! :(

I didn't have access to Stanford's library before Google, so even a limited presentation of its books is an improvement for me. In any case, Google as of yet can't stop me from going to my local library and reading in the physical books... which of course tend to have bias built into them in the first place. I like this program. It definitely raised some interesting issues however one thing annoyed me. Saying that a search engine can control everything is crap. The most important thing in this is free thinking. If you don't agree with the top result then don't click on it. We still have the ability to choose as human beings. We tend to forget that.

However having said that we have to make sure we retain the ability to choose. Definitely worth watching.

@JozefK78: I'd recommend checking out the official blog and official privacy policy ( Search for "google blog data retention" and "privacy policy"). These are complex issues that take more than a sound byte to understand and often times revolve around laws and government regulations which Google can't do anything about.

If you can find a search engine with better and more transparent data retention and privacy policies I'd like to hear about it.
