It is interesting to me how so many people can make such negative comments. Where is your video so we may say something about your performance. Every style has different ways of doing things. I am Shorin-Ryu karateka of over 40 years and we do this kata as well and our kibadachi is much lower than the one here. Judge not lest you shall be judged. The performance in this video is well done. I have seen much worse, i.e. kicking the inside of the leg on the sweeps. They gave a bad explanation.
Wow, how interesting seeing all the commentary's! this kata is done similar to the manner that we (RyuTe) perform it, but there are differences. those difference's don't (IMO) rate the criticism's being offered though. Actually all the motions performed (and most of those mentioned) are shown as variations of the basic kata.
can all the egomaniacal, arrogant, presumptuous and conceited idiots here just shut the fuck up and stop judging others without thinking that maybe they are the ones who are wrong about how to do a kata properly. it's just a kata. what matters is whether it works for you if you really have to use it one day. and fuck you too if you want to send a wise-ass response. i will just delete and wont be bothered to get into a stupid keyboard battle with you. i have a life. maybe you don't.
bigger kia, the feet should be more powerful but they are really soft, also there is no hip involved the guy is too tense, loosen up and let the move flow
@terroristprime6 True karate ka's dont critique their seniors....just by looking at his this "guy" has probably been doing this long than most of the people "criticizing" his kata...he's not doing it for practice he's doing it formally for demonstration...If u know the kata then u'd realize this
@phatbastid I wouldn't be critiquing him if I didn't know the moves or the kata, during demonstration seniors are suppossed to represent perfect form, 2 second pause between moves and relaxation after techniques I've been doing shorin ryu for over 20 years and I know a good well executed kata when I see one and who said this guy is my senior?
ok maybe it's that I'm a shotokan-ryu karateka and not a Shorin-ryu i don't see anything wrong with this kata, ofcourse in shotokan we are lower and the stance is kiba-dachi and the sixth move is almost a ura ken in stead of a morote block.
@c0402 ...what is ´wrong´ in this kata. Is the stance too high, low, narrow, natural, rigid? Or is the the position of the front toe somehow incorrect making this whole kata ineffective in a real situation.
So, what´s wrong and what is the right way to do naihanchi?
It's similar but different to Isshinryu's version, we have a gouge after the down block and there is an elbow smash before the backfist and we step before we do the thrust punch at the end, both times.

@mrBleu86 Nothing wrong. This is perfect traditional version of Naihanchi. And excellent performance.

@Andris717 ...I can see that for myself. I was merely being sarcastic.

@gunblazingmutant We also start to the left of the kata then step right, the switch directions. Neglected to mention that.
