I'm a JJ fan but people must take off the "she's an icon" blinders, she is an amazing performer and is a true "artist" which is a term that gets thrown around too much. However, even though I know I might catch some heat for this, I'm calling it like I see it, I see there aren't too many artists that she can sing better than, just my opinion. Her voice is fine and she has her moments, but overall its too fluttery and not enough depth. I'm sorry but she is far from the best I've heard vocally.

Janet is a great vocalist.
I don't get why so many people think that being a great vocalist means you have to shout like a baptist preacher on fire. Particularly black women.
No one compalins about Bob Dylan or Joni Mitchell not belting out their songs but you have a beautiful voice from a singer-songwriter and it's: she can't sing.
"Again" is my all time favorite song it didn't need any runs or insane notes. Jennifer Hudson and all those other screamers could never do a song like that.

No, Janet doesn't have a powerhouse voice. It is soft, like Michael's. But ALWAYS in tune with good pitch. I have yet to see a Madonna performance that was even on key.

LOL see her pretend to sing live and it will bring back all doubts about her true vocal ability. She isn't a singer she's a performer. The one time I've seen her even try to sing live was half of a slow song which she mimed the first half of and she sounded like a high pitched mumble.

Janet is top class at what she does and has been doing it well for a long time and alot better than the majority of the current artists. You don't have to have a huge belting voice to be a great singer. Janets voice is beautiful and she has nothing to prove at this point in her career especially after selling 100+ million albums. Is this really Janet? And if so, how come she doesn't sing like this anymore? It's even said for artists that can't sing very well that they have their voice altered by the engineerer in the studio. They have also said it about Rihanna. Since Janet's voice is already whispery, she uses that as an excuse to make it seem as though she can sing. I love me some Jacksons, but Janet can't sing.
