  • toony826 Guiding Light got cancelled after all When they killed off Maureen Bauer that was the start of the show leaving the air. That and bad writers.

  • Michael Zaslow got treated like SHIT! After he got sick. The producers or someone fired him, telling him "We don't need and old man." They let him come back to One Life To Live with open arms. By then he was unable to talk and they had him using a voice box, similar to The movie critic, exept his sounded like one of those Speak and Spells like children used to have.

  • HOLLY/EDs LAST SCENE HOLLY: Oh?! Hey. This is a pleasant surprise. ED: That's good. HOLLY: What are you doing here? ED: Came to see you. HOLLY: Come on in. ED: Can't. No time, leaving. HOLLY: Where are you going? ED: 'Round the world tour--open ended. HOLLY: (Nods) Hmmm. ED: With you? Life is very short Holly. Come on, please say yes. HOLLY: How longLong pause ...how long do I have to pack? ED: Ten minutes! HOLLY: Fifteen! ED: I'll be here. Waiting to carry your bags.
  • I like how Roger and Maureen ended up being friends.

  • God, I remember this. I was eight years old and (unbeknownst to me) there was a discussion between my mother and grandma about whether I should be permitted to keep watching when Roger came back, because they didn't think I was old enough to properly absorb the history between Roger, Ed, and Holly at the time. They decided to let me keep watching, for which I've come to be very grateful. This was the golden heyday for all soaps.

  • I didn't watch until around 1994 when Matt & Vanessa met but this scene is kind of funny. The door wasn't locked like at the FOL, Holly being a Charlie's Angel wannabee and Ed never winning a fight with Roger in the House. Also, can you imagine if this were Frank, Natalia & Olivia, I could see Olivia screaming "Get Your Hands Off Of Her Before I Make A Movie Up In Here!"

  • Is Ed wearing a ladies' bathrobe?

  • I don't think GL fans are "peculiar and set in their ways" but remember when GL had great writers who wrote great storylines. As far as I know only 2 characters were "killed" off because of the death of the actor/actress who portayed them- Roger Thorpe, who was played by the late Michael Zaslow and Bert Bauer, who was played by the late Charita Bauer.

  • :D well...these three probably slipped your mind: Theo Goetz was killed off the show when he passed away in real life. He played Papa Bauer. Then there was William Roerick {Henry Chamberlain}. He died in 1995 I believe...his character's funeral happened about a year later. Then there was Larry Gates...he played H.B. Lewis. He passed away about a year or two after Roerick and they had a funeral for H.B on the show.

  • @ACcountryFan I would like to know, not out of malice or anything, but was William Roerick gay?

  • its a shame that after so many decades that gl will most likely be cancelled in 2 or 3 yrs. i cant believe how the current team has messed up a great soap.

  • toony826 - I agree the current writers should be fired. The whole - "Bill, Lizzie, Daisy, Grady, Cyrus Show" has been going on far too long. It is obvious the younger actors are cheaper to hire, but General Hospital is KILLING GL in the rating....

  • Grady and Cyrus aren't on there very often now. The show still has a long way to go, maybe too late now, but I'm enjoying it more than I have in about 6 years.

  • General Hospital has constantly won the ratings race during the mid 1990's onward and a lot of that has to do with viewer habits and stories. The characters that a lot of people say "made GL a great show" had to be written off because of storyline's or the actors/actresses who played the role died and some roles are better left not re-cast. But the ratings race has consistently been won pretty much by GH because their audience isn't peculiar and set in their ways over content as GL.

  • "What did you think I was going to do, tease him to death?" LMAO. Maureen Garrett is amazing with the snarky one-liners. Thanks for this!

  • Thank you for these scenes! Maureen's reaction to the whole scene is so priceless.
