  • good video. I laughed at the really gay bit at the end! :D

  • Never mind, I just heard that part of the video lol

  • Can you freeze the laves and use them as needed?

  • this is my first time seeing your work. i subbed about two minutes in.

  • @apagoogoo Thanks for the sub :o)

  • I have been enjoying dried plantain seeds on my porrige with no side effects lol thanks

  • I tried this today, works brilliantly for nettle stings, cuts etc. Big thanks for making this video mate I was completely unaware of this plants uses :).

  • @90freaks37 Youre welcome :o)

  • Great vid Rick!!! could you share the name of the beautiful background music please?

  • @plavins1 It's royalty free music from The Footage Firm - called 'Softer_full' from Their Business Volume 2 album :o)

  • @plavins1 more details in the notes area

  • @rickvanman

ohh didnt notice it. Thank you!

  • I like it when you fall off your bike better. hehehehe.......

    jed

  • @jedthespread :o)

  • I love how unlike modern "medicine", herbs actually heal you, not just poison your nerves so you won't feel you're sick. :O

  • @2kageromaru exactly!

  • @rickvanman Totally! (just felt like saying it :P)

My friend (hormone and brain errr... not researcher but I don't know the english word) always says "Doctor is stupid, you're sick, he gives you poison. Doctor doesn't care."

According to him, 98% of the students in med schools here are just there by chance or because of parents.... They don't care about the patient, and most of them won't ever become doctors. Yay for people who WANT to be one having to pay 3 million cash for the school. :O

  • Great info. Didn't know you could use this plant until watching this.

  • @TK42138 cheers - yep the Plantain is one of natures best and easily found all-rounders

  • Great informative video Rick, many thanks :-)

  • @007vauxhall Youre welcome :o)

  • I wanna kill that bird....

  • @Legokink1 LOL! sparrows

  • Got me a handfull of plantain just removed the seeds humm might put a small amount in my oats tommorow lol its always strange when food is from nature and not from a package so to speak ?

  • @Andymma1 Indeed - all down to our TV training :o)

  • Has the broad leaf variety the same properties, most of the one near to me are broad leaf.

  • @ghough12 I believe this covers most varieties.

  • totally believe that this works well, but the thing is: when these things are discovered, they're tested scientifically, and if they're proven to work, they're refined and made into medicine that you can buy in stores. like when they discovered a plant had pain relieving effects, they made aspirin out of it. so I'm just saying, if you go to a pharmacy and buy a lotion to relieve bits/itches etc, it will probably be contain this and/or something better that has been optimised to get best results

  • @Epiphanized I hear you. I personally find myself gravitating more towards "Nature knows best".

I appreciate to some, that makes me sound like a total Philistine, but I feel there is a certain, tragic arrogance in man's haste to claim we know better than nature.

I figured out a long time ago that Modern medicine is all about wealth, not health, but that's a whole other debate :o)

The spirit of this video is all about being self sufficient and being independent of big pharma.

  • 1:08 "If you've ever been a kid"

Chances are i bet we all have, probably at the start of our lives.

  • @DreamsCatcher101 I don't know, these days kids seem to reach about 5 then skip right through to their teens.

  • I have just got back from walking the dogs with a handfull of plantain thanks for the inspiration do you have an email adress so i can ask you questions as i love your you tube posts so to speak thanks

  • @Andymma1 best to message me here

  • I thought plantains were those big, horribly-tasting bananas...

  • Very useful.Thanks Rick.

    Have a great day!

    Sandy

  • @maxpower285 your welcome :o)

  • Hi ! I live in Brittany, just across the Channel from you and needless to say (but I'll say it anyway) the land around my house is litterally covered with plantains. I just recenly started cooking them with stinging nettles into a fabulous green soup that is just as good either hot or cold. Thanks for the great advise anyway ! Seb from France ;o)

  • @capsulseb Great stuff! sounds like you've got it sussed.

  • Was waiting for this video. . . .for ages :D

  • @TheOriginalJoeBloggs cheers :o)

  • Rick a cant belive my luck lol, i watched this video last night, at 4am went a run, got to about 4 miles away from the my house then boom ran into a thistle :( so i rememberd what you said in this video and crushed a plantain leaf and let the liquide drip onto the cut :D i was amazed

  • @bigbillbob88 Nice one! always good to hear a success story.

  • Thanks for the great vid. I always thought dock was a plantain, now I know the difference!. Is dock good for anything?

  • @moonshadow93924 no probs. Not sure - will have to do some research :o)

  • This was great video. Could you do a video on dandelion and thistle also?

  • @HELLCATZ2 Thanks. Will add them to my very long list of potential videos to make :o)

  • It is called the same thing here in the States. I have found it in New York clear down to Georgia.

  • @HELLCATZ2 It's also known as the Ribwort :o)

  • I'm not entirely sure if we have those here in the Americas. What we call a plantain is kind of a short banana.

  • @wwwShadow7 It's also known as the Ribwort :o)

  • great vid Rick well done indeed man keep it up

  • @LeonPhythian69 Thanks :o)

  • Wow, wonderful video! This sounds like an incredibly multi-functional plant. The only plantain I am familiar with look something like green bananas? This sounds like a wonderful plant though, and like it is something worth planting in a person's own garden or on their property? Could this help you with your recent rib injury to help take away any pain or inflammation? Just wondering? Hope you are healing. Thanks for sharing. Beautiful blue sky and clouds! The swing looks fun! Be well. :-)

  • @WhiteTeaRoses315 Thanks Christine, It's also known as the Ribwort and I inderstand it grows just about everywhere. Not sure about the rib injury, i'll have to drink some plantain tea and see.

Swings are always fun, and compulsory when on holiday :o)

  • I love this videos I would love to see more from you! (these are why i subbed!)

  • @Bliced Thanks :o) will do my best.

  • lol yep.. I do remember shooting off those heads.. lol kids

  • @gardenvespers777 LOL me too :o)

  • Shared to facebook. I know where two of these are right now. Plantain patch next year!

  • @nerdmom920 Thanks for sharing :o) look closely and you may find you already have one :o)

  • yea yea its good for boners too

  • @tomyhill123 Really? I must start marketing this stuff LOL!

  • Very useful information, thanks!

  • @cherilynmonroe Your'e welcome :o)

  • This is one of the most usefull videos Ive ever watched. I have these growing everywhere. Can you recommend a good wild edibles book?

  • @TheVbird420 Thanks for the great commenst - glad you found it useful. I tend to refer to "food for free" a lot plus "hedgerow medicine" - both available on amazon

  • @rickvanman Thanks I will look into them. Keep up awesome work brother!

  • I NEVER knew what those were or what they were good for (other than "pop-guns"). =)

I learn something new in every RVM video! =) Brilliant, mate!

  • @MZMStudios Always good to learn something new Patrick :o) Before last weekend, I had no idea what a cracked rib felt like, now I'm practically an expert LOL! - OK maybe learning new things is not always a good thing :o)

  • @rickvanman Well, at least now you know so that next time, you'll know you've cracked one. lol

  • @MZMStudios Next time??? God i hope not! LOL!

  • @rickvanman ROFL!! I hope not, too, for your sake. lol

  • I know Plantain as a hard banana looking thing. I'll have to find out what your showing is called here in the States. It looks familiar.

  • @FenderGibsonWashburn FOUND THEM! My yard it apparently full of them. I mowed a couple days ago so I couldn't really tell so a checked my neighbor's yard where it buts up to mine and there they were. I compared the leaves to ones in my yard and they are everywhere!

Also I looks up Plantains on Google Images and it shows both those plants and the banana looking things. Thanks for the info Rick. I now have one less unidentified weed in my yard. :)

  • @FenderGibsonWashburn Happy to help Paul ;o) Yes not all weeds are as useless as we sometimes make them out to be. Always good to find something if value you didn't know you had - Like finding a tenner in the pocket of some trousers you haven't worn for a few months :o)

  • @FenderGibsonWashburn It's also known as the Ribwort :o)

  • I like your videos man!! :)

  • @wesstu1 Thanks :o)
