at Saturnineanodyne, I am pretty sure your a good bird mama. My bird did the same thing, not only a new home, she had two brother birds waiting for her. People need to do research before bitchen over nothing. lol
for the first 12 months baby cockatiel look like females untill they first molt in a year. Then you can tell which is which by the patchs on the faces the bright ones are the females the darker ones are the males but even then people make mistakes in sexing them so the other way is the calls the birds make
@CheekyBullets It's a chick, you won't know untill after it goes through its first moult and grows in it's adult plumage wether it is male or female. With the pied, lutino and other variations, it's too hard to tell. Wait a couple of years and see if it lays an egg or get genetic testing done.
Oh, I am soooo happy to read the comments. As precious as he looks, I was concerned that he was sick to be so non responsive. He is a sweetheart, I bet..... :)
i have a 6th month old cockatiel he wont sleep and we just got him yeasterday if u could leave a comment on how you get him to sleep now it would help alot! btw his name is ( UNO)
@how131 Let him pass out on his own. Let him get used to his new home. He'll get in to a rhythm and will sleep when its dark or when he get tired. You wouldn't sleep if you were in strange new surroundings and didn't know what in the heck was going on, either.
aaaw, he is so adorable <3 :) and if anybody takes a better look at him definitely can see that he's a male because of those red spots....males have stronger red marks than females
HAHAHA cute!! hey what age is he?? (Plse see my vid of our cockatiel) I think ours is young as his heads only starting to become yellow. Reason i ask you is Ive seen some males here with very yellow heads, yours looks like ours..not so yellow but definitely not a female bird.
you idiots cant read the description.... this is why I ALWAYS check the description b4 I CRITICIZE a person that you THINK has a sick animal on their hands and wont do anything about it.
@TheMULTIbuds dont be so mean it was a mistake on my behalf all i was saying was that when there really young there can be a mix up I had a cockatiel and when it was a baby they told me it was male and then it laid an egg and the breeder said sometimes they get it wrong. I wasnt actually talking bout this bird specifically. If you read the description she said to keep your nasty comments to yourself. All I was doing was sharing what ive been told dont really know whats so stupid bout that?
My cockatiels needed a long time to get used to the house. I read that when they fluff up theyre plumage (you know, when they look really "fat"), it surely means that they are accostumed to theyre surroundings. Mine tends to fluff up a lot nowadays
I could spend hours simply watching my birds (I have a cockatiel and a budgie) and videos like this one ! Those little creatures are just so wonderful, and sometimes seem so 'human' ...
because this cockatiel is still a baby it is hard to determine wether its a male or a female. Although judging by the colour of the orange cheeks. It looks more male. The males have much brighter faces. The females tends to be more dull in colour. But still the cockatiel is still too young to know. Mistakes are often made at this age and you normally cant tell til its older
@XRaquelleXxx I do have to add here that my pied tiel female was very brightly cheeked. She was a singer too, and extremely vocal. So sometimes the only way to tell is just to get them DNA tested. I know she was female, and so I never had her tested, but I've had girls that turned out to be boys and vice versa, and sometimes the color would throw me off. Also I wouldn't ever go on who they tend to mate with. I have a six year old male that prefers males. All of his mates have been males.
"3. He is not a female. First off, all baby cockatiels have the stripes on the tail and look very female (at least the normal greys!) until a certain age. He was breeder proven, DNA tested, and if you saw/heard him today, you'd know he's male!"
From my observation, since have had two cockatiel, and taken care of many more for neighbors, this bird is NOT Traumatized. my bird has done thisbefore and she usually did it because she wanted attention, or expected a neck rub, also, squeaky, one i took care of, he did this because he was not getting all the nutrients in his food. birds sometimes get funny after feeding them the same thing for awhile. It may simply be just tired, but birds usually sleep up and erect.
I love how people can judge the care of your bird and are saying you're traumatizing it. As if they know you and how you take care of him. @airkool90 If you own cockatiels then hopefully you have spent a lot of time watching their crests and what their crests tell you. Crest completely up=scared. Crest down with the tip sticking up=calm. When they pan to the side you can see that the crest is down. Also, even an exhausted baby that couldn't keep it's eyes open would have kept one eye on the item that was "traumatizing" him if he was so terrified, but when the camera moves he doesn't move an eye to look at it. @sheek80 my bird crashed outside of her cage, too. she was not used to her surroundings, and fell aslep while walking around. she is now sitting on my shoulder, singing her merry heart out, without a care in the world. and the lady going puh puh puh was to show that he was asleep.i will bet you $1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 that he is doing swell, and very, very happy.

aww that is so super cute! its like a child that had to much fun and falls asleep in a plate of frenchfries (my brother XD)
im glad he is ok! does your charlie enjoy showering? I have a quick question, do u maybe have a clue how to stop my aikou (female cinamon) from pulling out her down! she is horrible, she pulls them until she screams!
