...this is a wonderful compilation of John Duffy's work. I first saw the Scene at Carlisle Fest outside of Hamilton Ontario mid 70s and was hooked. Saw them again at Pinnacle Hill Fest in the Ottawa Valley, Ontario and Kissimee N.Y. This comp. brought some tears for sure and the expose by Akira was very a bit heart-wrenching. John Duffey is one-in-a-million and is sorrowfully missed...we love you...RIP
this man left a vocal blue print behind its sad he is gone but his voice still rings in my head almost every day i miss you john duffy some day i will see you you will not never be foggotten
Fred, I asked Randall about this song back in 95 and it's similarity to The Traveler. He said "I'd been trying to get John to sing one of mine for years. I thought the easiest way to do it was write one like he'd have written." I dunno if y'all had heard that, or noticed the similarity. I thought it a good story. He was surprised someone remembered that song.
My goodness !! what a talent , The singers you hear on America Got Talent , is a clown show , its a shame that artist and music has been rape by the media, The Duffy guy is a beautiful freak of music...These people are rare...on earth.
The Seldom Scene was my first introduction to bluegrass, beyond remembering the 1 channel days of TV and Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs Show of my childhood. To say I was amazed would be putting it mildly. Wish I had gone to some festivals while he was still with us. What a voice!
Many thanks to travers342. What a treat hearing this for the first time again. Well, the first time in a century. I was cutting my blue grass teeth in the mid 70's when this tune happened. And just posted before Xmas last year. I love you tube
