my guess as to why they made these ranged swords, etc is an attempt to make flying combat a little less one sided, so melee classes actually stand a chance against rpds classes.... just a guess though...

this weapons actually looks like weapons, unlike WoW, weapons looks like toys and made of plastic. also armors in WoW looks like shit, plates looks like folded paper with like random ass color that makes it not look plate.

They're called Extended Weapons. They're a matter of preference. Normally you would use your main weapons, but in a situation where you need to close the gap fast at the cost of some damage... you can switch to your extended set.
