Definitely. Jackie Earle Haley nailed this role. The best casting of a character in comic/superhero movie to date in IMHO. I hope this performance is remembered when award season rolls around. If they can recognize Heath for the great job he did in Batman, then they can acknowledge Jackie Earle Haley for Rorschach.

When i was watching the movie for the first time, at that jail scene (first scene), i was pretty much on mark with the guys in the back round when he tossed the grease on the prisoner. (For some reason, that made me cringe more then the scene where he started hacking up the guy's head up even though he was dead)

I've heard that a lot of the characters are a bunch of warped versions of characters we already know: Miss Jupiter - Wonder Woman, Nite Owl - Batman (of course), The Comedian - Captain America, Dr. Manhattan - could be any godlike being really, Ozymandias - Lex Luthor (more than likely). And Rorschach: black and white symbol, often sees things as black and white, wears a trench coat. Hurm, who else does that???

They are all based on the Charlton Comics characters that DC acquired in the 1980's. Writer Alan Moore originally wanted to used them. Rorschach is similar to the Question who wears a trench coat and is faceless.

Rorschach is even more deranged and deluded than Travis Bickle. He is a full-blown psycho. Practically a Nazi. He hates homosexuals and liberals and "smooth-talkers." The reason why he's so interesting is that he's still such a compelling character; he is so easy to identify with, even though you're not SUPPOSED to like him.

The film turned him into just one more in a long line of gravelly-voiced badasses.

I just find it worrying how people focus on on the tinselly "he beats up the bad guys" aspect of his character whilst ignoring the reasons why he does what he does. And that's really what Watchmen is about; exploring exactly what kind of broken sociopath it would take to put on a mask and fight crime.
