  • "The technique, the great precision - these can be explained."

...For Heifetz? I don't think so buddy.

  • In Heifetz's masterclasses, when he wanted to get to the passage that he wanted to discuss with his students, he would start from several bars before and just gloss through them at supersonic speed so casually, then get to where he thought the student had a problem and then focus his attention there. You can see it in his masterclass videos - Polonaise and Tchaikovsky and Bach.

He's so much at ease in concert performances because his technical capabilities were in fact far higher.

  • at the end, the audience just gently clapped. I'd be screaming and cheering my head off. heifetz is one of favorites

  • The emotion in here is just absolutely breathtaking. You can't watching without being awestruck by the magic.

  • ''didn t like this one'' ahahah

  • 3:16 is that Winston Churchill?

  • jajajajajaja xD crazy!

  • jajajajaj xD

  • @dududevynidu It looks very much like him !!. The fact that the shot was taken at all would suggest that it was somebody of importance , ! and of course Mr Churchill would fit that bill !! At least he is looking at one the greatest violinists of the world !! 100 marks to his musical taste !

  • I love this man so much. He is the reason I would want the time machine to exist.

  • What is the name of that documentary?

  • always was a king of violin and will last for eternity! :P

  • My piano teacher was Heifetz's accompanist at one point. lol, i feel honored

  • Oh to be old enough to have seen this artist in concert. It would have been such a treat.

  • thanks

  • this must have been what it is like to watch paganini play

  • Heifetz is quite talented..although i still favor Rabin he was better than heifetz at half his age Jascha himself said Michael was the only violinist he ever feared

  • WTF. trying to play this right now and this vid just makes me want to smash my violin on my knees, damnit. :'( i'll never be half this good. why do i even try?

  • @mophoplz

Because it's Scherzo Tarantella! And you can play it! (Unlike the rest of the world) It's a year after you posted this-- hope you are happier now, or that you will start again!

  • Amazing precision!

  • Wonderful!

  • .....my mind was just blown :O

  • Heifetz is a direct pupil of god

  • Heifetz is himsel God.

  • lmao his driving his wife to insanity

heifetz: lets listen to that one again shall we

wife: OH COMON thats the 184th time

  • He prob never got tired of hearing his own perfection..??

  • lol haha I know.

  • de verdad que heifetz se luce con una tarantella preciosisima, q gran genio es....

para hablar asi de la version de menuhin mmmmmmm muy atrevido.

  • una tarantella BELLISSIMA!!!!

  • that looks like a gamecube in the back :P

  • ach that recording played at the begining.. intonation ! ! eep. i love heifetz :) i want to hear itzhak play this piece.. i love both of them equally they both have ups and downs you can't argue with that

  • bullshit. name 1 down as u say with Heifetz music id love to hear ur bullshit answer

  • The Fiddle King

  • 'faster' doesn't necessarily mean 'better.' yes, menuhin's might have been faster, but you listen closely, and his intonation isn't as accurate, his sautille isn't as crisp and clean, he glosses over many of the musical details which heifetz brings out, he doesn't play with the same searing tone that heifetz produces.

i'm sure if heifetz wanted, he could play this piece twice as fast as he did (he probably REALLY could), but he elected not to. that doesnt make him any worse than menuhin.

  • @IsaacH1273

Heifetz is, indeed, inferior to Menuhin, but that doesn't make Menuhin any bit less of a genius.

  • @Acruz9301

    I meant superior

  • @IsaacH1273 it's really better if you play it as it should be played and in the right speed than if everything you want is show your skills. it doesn't sound right

  • Yes, but his interpretation is worse. Heifetz could play it faster but he choses not to. Heifetz' version is definitely superior.

  • definatly mate

  • Heifetz is the absolute god at Wieniawski and Tchaik..... Not even Menuhin can match him..

  • he is always the best, much better than any other,,

  • i agree completely

  • @violin957 I hate this non-senses , "good at .." if he is good , he play all the composers good , this is a stupid non-sense.

  • @paulcatalin i never said that he wasnt good at playing other composers composers music, i simply said that he plays tchaikovsky and wieniawski VERY well. also, my previous comment comparing Menuhin to Heifetz... my opinion on that now is that both violinists interpretation are respectable, and although one will most likely be prefered, I think its unfair to say one is better at this level.

  • @violin957 Agreed. Only Oistrakh can. Both Gods.

  • @violin957 I was just comparing Heifetz to Menuhin playing this piece... Menuhin is nowhere near Heifetz !

  • @violin957 He was the god all the composers >_>

  • the slidings between 4:14- 4:19.... perfect...

  • It's not the point to play fast but to play beautiful. And Heifetz does.

  • madness. no one can match up to that. Even though Mehunin seemed to play it faster but, i think that Heifetz some how made this sound interesting even though he plays it at a tremendous speed.

  • Yes, largely because his bowing articulation is better. Also, Menuhin takes this at such an insane speed, it loses musical interest.

  • I wish I played like this.

Heifetz is truly one of the greatest violinist

  • aa the tope note at 3:26 :o

  • I wonder if that is Winston Churchill in the audience at 3.20 !!! I will also state that Heifetz is one the greatests violinists of all time !!

  • Looks very much like him!

  • awesome. this piece is so fast that you need slow mo.

  • you can play it yourself can't you? I think that yours is actually faster..... for some reason

  • Heifetz is beast!

  • one of the reason why I learn the violin...

  • Masterpiece

  • Hmmm, looks like laugh a minute at the Heifetz household...

I think this is the best display of violin technique that I've seen on You Tube. And that's saying something...

  • Wife: "How many of these are you going to make me listen to? We are up to fifty seven, Jascha..."

Jascha: "SILENCE WENCH! It will be perfect.... or you will be beaten!"

    *grin* Male hegemony!

  • :D he is sooooo good... but sheesh, i would be satisfied if i could get past bar 20 of this piece, its monstrously difficult

  • I was so happy when I got the first two pages, then realised that it gets much more difficult. bah.

  • lol, i learnt it! YAAAAY and i learnt the waxman carmen concert fantasy too. But i must admit, heifetz makes it looks effortless. When i play it at presto my face looks like i have a pine cone up my butt XD

  • gahh love heifetz!

  • Wow he's very critical of himself. No wonder he was so great.

"No, I didn't like this one, did you?"

    "I didn't either; I liked #3 better."

"Yes, now let's listen to that again, shall we?"

Wow. We should be more like him.

  • @shawn1cai erm... this is completely staged. Obviously.

  • @celloguy So what? That doesn't change the fact that he was extremely critical of himself.

  • but.. holy shit.. maybe it wouldnt be so bad.

  • why was i not alive when heiftz was....dangit. haha

  • Really! i think the same, now we cant hear violinist like these!

  • ya, no one does it like they used to. its sad, i feel like i totally missed the best era. haha, i'm glad someone agrees! ps, thanks so much for putting this one here!

  • Joshua Bell, Itzhak Perlman, Sarah Chang, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Hilary Hahn...sure no one will ever be able to emulate heifetz, but don't act like our era is devoid of all good violinists.

Anyone who heard heifetz live has said that his tone was noticably different in a concert hall setting, since he always put the mike by his violin, producing this scatchy noise, pity we never got to hear this eh...

  • for me i think you would do well to add Su Yeon Lee ( 15 year old who is rocking the world with her talent .

  • @ViolinVideos i had been living with heifetz for couple weeks for i was born in nov.,1987 :D

  • @ViolinVideos dont you mean you wish Heifetz was alive now, if not for you for him

  • @ViolinVideos Yes, One generation can only have one luck of enjoying something.

  • @ViolinVideos

yeah....i wish i had a time machine like Marty McFly!!! too bad i wasnt born earlier! ;-)

  • @ViolinVideos we can, there is Itzhak Perlman ;)

  • @ViolinVideos Come on! Listen to Kavakos and will find a violinist with comparable standards of perfection!

  • @ViolinVideos Just wait until Joakim R. grows up

  • because you would be dead now.

  • hahahahahaha .

    BUT it isn't funny
