How did they let that racist redneck ask a question on this show? Notice that Zinn didn't directly answer his ignorant query, because its beneath him.
A note about some of the comments here (and about the internet in general): people who don't have arguments, or anything resembling one, tend to resort to rants and personal attacks. They don't have much to say or contribute (or even disagree with) so they unleash insults behind the safety of their computer, due to the anonymity of the internet. Ignoring them can be difficult, but it's often best not to take them seriously.
@SolomanKane2k8 The thing that disturbs me the most is that Zinn gave a bad name to v neck sweaters. I am sure with his passing he will be forgotten and fall into the liberal ash heap of history, thus allowing people to proudly wear a v neck sweater again.
He does not sound like a tough grizzled old soldier but some kind of dandified Nancy boy, who is afraid of wars and he is indubitably no sea-dog but the sort of pasty landlubber I have always despised. I'll warrant, the most exciting thing that has happened to this limpid prawn in a whole year, was the day when he forgot to put sugar in his porridge!

America seems to be going in the same direction as before. No troops are coming home. They're going to Afghanistan. And he's just letting the Bush tax cut for the wealthy ride. He's already done a 180.
Carter is ridicules as a madman simply because he wouldn't bend to the will of the CIA and the ZioNazi's. Your ridiculous country was built on war and, like all empires, can only sustain itself through war. Good thing is that the paper economy of the US is collapsing and soon the US will be no more. Then the world can finally rid itself of these filfthy Zionists and the Middle East can be at peace.
TavishHill keep spreading the 'Obama is the messiah of mankind' nonsense. The world won't accept it no matter how many countries the US bombs. The really ridiculous thing is that fools like you believe Obama is going to do good when he's Bush's relative and member of the same think tanks and forums. Obama is a ZioNazi, just like Bush, Clinton, Raegan, McSame and all the others. The only two who weren't are Kennedy, who paid the ultimate price, and Carter.
damn right wealth has been consolidated to the top, thats what a fiat currency and fractional reserve lending was invented for....i dont understand why people, even intelligent people dont want to talk about our monetary system. Its like everyone just thinks "oh yeah...thats money...its always been around...no way around that...its not the issue" and no one considers that it is the reason for war and everything else we want to fix...not socialism or capitolism or communism or any other system.
both Howard Zinn and Riz Kahn forgot to mention that like Hillary, VP-elect Joe Biden also had voted for the Iraqi War, as did Obama's newly elected chief of Staff, Rahm Emmanuel support the war!
segits, you misunderstand what Zinn was talking about. Hillary and Biden aren't the ones choosing how to deploy our military. They aren't making the decisions about when we go to war and with whom we go to war. Zinn was asked about the prospect of Clinton as Com. in Chief, not the VP role whch is a completely different role politically than the president with regard to handling wartime decisions.
luqmana, Chomsky is notoriously cynical. His skepticism isn't necessarily misplaced with Obama, however many of his criticisms on policy merit are things that anyone closely following Obama's campaign will keenly notice aren't really necessarily representative of how Obama really feels about an issue. Obama isn't stupid, he will play things safe when he has to to get elected, but there are certainly areas where one can read betwen the lines and get a better feel for his positions on issues.
@buzzin1975 no you are not! Americans does not think hard enough on Who to vote for.
And it is a tragic fact that the president in the US case doesnt really have that much power the presidency would need. i was so happy that americans voted obama, but i am now so disappointed, at myself for thinking that he was a good choice. I, like the americans, was fooled by the corporate machine to believe he was "good"
Obama has promised to EXPAND the military, keep all options on the table re Iran, has vowed to send more troops to Afghanistan and has said that he would bomb Pakistan and will no doubt want to throw a few "humanitarian" interventions for good measure.
His first appointment has been to install a hardline zionist to his chief of staff.
not to mention marshal state resources to suctain [sic] corporate finance at the point when grinding poverty and increasing class polarity is touching the heart of american society.
really? all those generals and admirals who can look forward to cushy jobs at the same same companies they awarded contracts to - now want spending cut?
You are rather naive. In the real world, high ranking military experts know that natinoal security isn't based exclusively on how many boots we have or the number of nukes we posess. They are all too aware that there are much more important factors to national security and that too much padding o their budget ends up causing major trouble over long time periods. Contrary to your imagination, there are real expers out there at the Pentagon who understand this type of spending isn't sustainable.
When you are too dim to see what Obama's positinos are, those are exactly the types of ignorant ideas you'll end up with andy. The problem is that youa re tying to take Obama's comments at AIPAC as if he weren't a politician. Sadly, he is the only candidate this whole cycle who knew that we need to talk to Iran (not Ahmadinejad, but Khameni). And Rahm was picked to force Obama's agenda thru Congress. Get a fucking clue. This isn't some zionist conspiracy ya nut. lol
O Rly? Is that why the Obama administration has been holding Israel's feet to the fire on the settlements issue? Because my comment was so "ludicrous"? hahaha...

the Military expanded under Clinton. It expanded under Bush. Its budget for Fiscal Year 2009 is $711 billion dollars.
High-tech industry, R&D, etc wouldn't last 5 seconds in the USA without the cushioning of government subsidy concealed through defence spending.
KentAllard 3 years ago 2
Which is exactly why the Pentagon has asked Obama to drastically cut its funding going forward.

Actually heard of privatization? PMCs maybe? Yeah the Pentagon doesn't need that money just funnel it to war profiteering businesses.
