  • WTF THIS IS MAGIC O_O

  • @JessiKitty13 haha... I guess you can call it that. :o)

  • Hey Vanessa. I am excited. I went out today and purchased material to make pillow cases. Thanks so much for showing us the french seam. Nice! btw Your daughter is sooo very cute! She got so big. :)

  • @craftymom7 Thanks so much!! :o)

  • @TheCraftyGemini Your welcome :)

  • Thanks Vanessa you are soooo inspiring, could we have a wild card video on Screen Printing at home sometime?

  • @TheFancyFrogs I'll add your suggestion to my tutorial to do list. Thanks!

  • wonderful vid - years since I'd made a french seam, you showed us brilliantly how it is done - thanks for that!

  • Your pillowcase video is like magic! I've never seen the French Seam before.. I just used to fold the 1yard fabric in half and sew around. This is just a wonderful tutorial with much knowledge and happiness acquired by the viewers!!

  • I'm disabled, and can't get around much. It's not really possible for me to take classes, since I don't know if I'll be O.K. or sick. You don't know how much of the world you have opened up for me!!! Thank you, Vanessa!! :-)

  • great tutorial. what i don t understand with this type of pillow cases is how do we close it?

  • @majawow We don't close it. The pillowcase is slightly bigger than the pillow so it stays nicely in there. You can even make it so it fits a little more snug so you have to shake or pull out the pillowcase. Here in the U.S. it's very common to have pillowcases just like this. I've heard your same concern from viewers in the UK... it's just what we're used to here.

  • I just love u and ofcourse ur Tutorial. Gr8

  • Thanks! U r a great teacher!

  • @suecshamekh Thanks! Glad to help!

  • love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

  • Great idea!!!

  • @susieqmcf Thanks! :o)

  • Love this idea, I'm going to make one from satin. The baby is gorgeous and getting big!

  • @gorrjuss43 Sounds like fun... just be sure to pin that satin like crazy to help keep it from sliding around on you! Thanks... kids grow so big so fast it's crazy! We are enjoying every minute. :o)

  • This is a great way to make a pillowcase but... I'll keep making mine with my serger:) My teenage daughter and I make them for our local hospital to give to kids having treatment. The nurses say their little faces light up when they get to choose a fun fabric pillowcase. We make them all year long and change our fabric for the season.

  • @mrsfrd That's definitely a quicker way of doing it. Keep up the great work!

  • This is amazing! I was going to buy pillowcases, but now I'm going to make some! Thanks!!

  • @CraftyKoo That's what I like to hear! Yay! No problem.. I'm glad to help. :o)

  • Vanessa, I don't even sew but I watch you anyway! I am just starting a craft channel, before I got going I looked to see who was doing the best DIY craft videos on YouTube so I could set the bar for myself, I love how confident and clear you are you and your video techniques are great! Thanks for inspiring me who knows I may even try sewing! xo Debi

  • @SheSellsSeaShellscom haha... that's awesome! Thanks, Deb! Good luck with your channel. I'll check your stuff out. :o)

  • спасибо!!! ты супер!!! обожаю твои уроки!!!

    С новым годом!Счастья тебя и твоей семье !

  • @iako131313 Нет проблем! Рад, что вы пользовались видео.

  • This is one of the best tutorials I've seen for a pillowcase! I can't wait to get my sewing machine started again in this new year! :-)

  • @cllovegood Glad to hear that! Happy sewing!

  • Very informative and craaaaaaaazy in depth. Thank you thank you! Most tutorials leave a lot to the imagination, you've covered everything!

  • @shimirabilis Glad you think so. I try to walk even the newest sewing beginner through my video tutorials. I don't like to assume what my viewers know. I try to cover as much as I can. Thanks!!

  • Vanessa - Great tutorial! I haven't seen the roll-up method before. I made pillowcases for my niece's birthdays and for me and my husband this year. I also added ric-rac trim at the pillowcase edges for a sweet touch. Enjoyed your tutorial girl!

  • wow! amazing tutorial, it's easy to understand. thank you! can't wait to try them. :) goodluck and Happy new year!

  • @TheSewista Thanks! Glad you found it easy to understand.. I try! Same to you!

  • I love this video tutorial, and I am just about to get started, but I am a beginner and I was wondering if someone could help me out with the measurements for a queen size pillow.

  • @a575862 Queen size pillows measure 20" x 30" . Standard pillows usually measure 20" x 26". So, I would just add more length to the pillowcase because the width would be the same. Instead of a 24" x Width of fabric piece maybe start with 28" to account for the extra length. Have fun!

  • great tutorial! thanks for sharing. would love if you share how to sew bed sheets too!

  • @jusranada I'll add your suggestion to my list of videos to do... thanks!

  • Excellent tutorial. Thank you!

  • @sugarcookielady Thanks! Glad you liked it. :o)

  • I was just about to do some pillow cases the old fashioned way! I stumbled across this and its genius!

  • @ROZSBLUEJAY haha... Glad I saved you the extra work and ragged seams. ;o) Happy sewing! Be sure to subscribe if you enjoyed the tutorial. I post a new tutorial every Monday and have tons of other fun & easy projects posted. :o)

  • cool!

  • @terrinakamura Thanks!

  • Oh my lordy you are amazing!! Thank you for continuing to share these projects with us.

  • @BadgeBunnyDiva No problem! I love to share fun & easy projects with you all! :o)

  • Great tutorial! I used a similar technique a few months ago to make 4-sets of pillowcases. I have a serger, but this is perfect for those that don't. HOWEVER, I REALLY like the "french seam" technique you used so I will be using this method when I make my next set of pillow cases.

I would love to see a tutorial on how to make bed sheets with resources on where to buy "sheeting" fabric. Thanks!

  • @cateyesmd I have a serger too but between threading that baby and not having the seams as concealed as in a french seam... i much rather do it this way. :o) I will add your suggestion to my list of videos to do. Thanks!

  • @TheCraftyGemini Thanks! Surprisingly today I found some other fabric I purchased to make pillowcases with and I'm going to try your french seam method.

  • @cateyesmd AWESOME! Let me know how you like it. :o)

  • beautiful baby girl :)

  • @nbilladeau Thank you! ;o)

  • I love making pillow cases. Thanks for showing how to do french seams.

  • @CrafterCarolyn No problem! They are so easy to do and really elevate projects to the next level. :o)

  • I have always wanted to learn the french seam, very cool. I'm going to have to try this very soon

  • @srode1977 Let me know how it goes... it's really easy!

  • @TheCraftyGemini Oh I will. I'll be sure to post it on FB

  • im going to try this my youngest likes to sleep inside his pillowcases so ive not made him an open one yet as he would pick at the raw edges . i do not have a serge to tidy them up so this is a good idea thankyou will let you know

  • @creativemumma1 Definitely! Glad to help.

  • this is brilliant!

  • I do love the roll method but wouldnt the pillow be showing and always falling out seeing as you didnt seal the end?

  • @emilyhale27 its a normal pillow case like you buy with your sheet sets not a decorative one. you have to leave the end open to change out cases and wash them.

  • @TheLaydewlf Im from the UK and even pillowcases that come with bed sheets have sealed edges, must be a cultural thing, figured they were the same in every country, I guess I was wrong.

  • @emilyhale27 oh i understand now. i didn't realize the difference either. something funny -- just this morning i accidentally pulled my pillow out of its case when i was trying to move it from behind me. maybe a zippered end is the way to go! :-)

  • @TheLaydewlf hahaha... I'd be afraid to poke myself in the eye with the zipper pull... velcro? lol

  • @emilyhale27 Yea, I have heard from some followers in the UK about that. We have them open here... The pillowcase fits a little bigger so you don't actually see the pillow poking out and it won't slip out unless you turn it out and shake it or pull it out. So, it's fairly secure just like that. :o)

  • @emilyhale27 Thanks! :o)

  • Vanessa, I always am happy to see a tutorial from you. And it was especially nice to read your recap of 2011. God has certainly blessed you and I pray that He continues to bless your family for 2012 and beyond. :) Happy New Year!

  • @tedology Thanks so much! Happy New Year to you too! :o)

  • Fantastic! You rock.

  • @Teakai8 Thanks. :o)

  • This is wonderful! I will be using this pattern. Thanks so much!

  • @wildheart5 No problem! Glad to help!

  • use a serger, Much easier.

  • @verycraftymama If you have one that is threaded that's definitely the way to go. But not everyone has a serger... or in my case, likes to thread it.... so I like to offer other options. :o)

  • @verycraftymama It looks cleaner this way.

  • Totally rocken!!! I love the pillow case. I need to fix my machine and get my fabric. I think the bobbin just was not put in right so it ate some thread, yeah... But once. I figure it out. I can get with it. The possibilities are endless.

  • brilliant! thanks

  • @crittersitter51 No problem! Happy sewing!

  • I'd like to say thank you for uploading this video.

    :)

  • @tearxofthephoenix You're welcome!

  • Excellent work Vanessa-thanks! You are a happy and positve person who shows great confidence in her approach to teaching how to do what may seem tricky, in an easy manner! You are a wonderful competition for other much older and experienced sewers! Yahoo for Vanessa! Marietta from Brisbane :-)..ps: a VERY happy New Year to you and family! Cheers from Downunder!

  • @yosoySUPERWOMAN Thank you! :o)

  • This is great..Love the pics at the end..What a bundle of cuteness

BIG HUGS & Happy New Year to you & your family

  • @tweetnes Thank you!! Same to you!

  • Wow! That's awesome! I've never seen a pillowcase made like that before :)

  • @aglanceatmyworld It's the best and easiest way to make one! 3 seams and you're done! A lot of quilters make these for charities like the 1 Million Pillowcase challenge. :o)

  • I have tried this doing it with and without the French seam. I have found that my sewing machine "hates" sewing that French seam at the end when it comes to that small accent fabric inthe middle. Any tips?

  • @kaybabyquilt Are you trimming the seam allowance from the first seam? Are you pressing it after each step? I recommend giving it a good press with a hot steamy iron to help compress the layers. Also, try replacing your needle to a new sharp 80/12 or 90/14 needle. It should go through it with no problem. If you are still having trouble then maybe you're machine can't sew threw multiple layers of fabric. :o/

  • awesome

  • @Natoyaista :o)

  • Vanessa-first Happy New Year. Also I wanted to tell you how talented I think you are. Keep doing it girl!!

  • @kcsmom11 Thanks so much! Happy New Year to you too! :o)

  • nice this really helped alot
