  • 2011 Version: *drops a bomb on man's city*

  • Indiana Jones shot first.....

  • Indiana Jones vs CAIR

  • Yeah, the final scene was way better.

  • And thus, a famous movie scene is born.

  • Thats right, he had horrible dysentery and they were shooting this complicated fight seen, Ford said: "why can't I just shoot the f*cker?" So they did.

  • I didn't know they actually shot some of the original fight before Harrison Ford wanted to just shoot him.

  • You should make it where he throws the sword at him before he fires . . .

    Arab Swordman shot first, lol.

  • Also, my husband and his fellow "All White People Are Orientalists" crowd HATE this scene with a passion as well as the entire movie. Too bad this is one of my favorite scenes AND favorite movie series of all time :D

  • Arabs are the best.

  • @shaupenschtraich what is that suppose to mean????

  • @Saladon89 i believe it's supposed to mean that arabs are the best. that's just a guess, though.

  • @shaupenschtraich Its why I married one :D

  • Almost all of the cast had dysentery and were really sick when they were shooting in Cairo; it was also around 110-120 degrees. Ford did this as a kind of joke with the other actor in on it because they kept re-shooting this scene, Ford was exhausted and sick as a dog. Spielberg thought it was great and put it in the movie. John Rhys-Davies talks about it in interviews. Davis was so sick he couldn't hold his bowels at times when shooting; nobody gave him a bad time because they were all ill.

  • @djcorbijn This is true, my cousin worked on this film

  • Foreign: Stupid lightsaber wont reflect bullets...good thing i got the free waranty

    Indy: Thats a sword...

Foreign: Then why did they charge me extra for my jedi license?....wait....dang!

  • And thats why you don't bring a sword to a gunfight...

  • Watch, Lucas is going to make Spielberg change it back so that Indy doesn't shoot first for the blu-ray release. Just like Han doesn't shoot Greedo first LOL!

  • Yes, that's what I understand - Ford was ill and was getting frustrated trying to get this scene completed so he pulled out the gun - great scene!

  • where the HELL did u get this?

  • Harrison Ford, man with no bullshit

  • Lol

  • guess they thought: ..he has a gun dosen't he?

  • @MrHEC381991 actually everyone on set was sick because of the heat and Harrison pulled out gun and shoot him as a joke. However Steven and George loved it and they put it into the moive

  • @InfamousNick07 huh heat !! north Europeans!that is when my most beautiful work comes out

  • @ahmad3652 :D

  • @InfamousNick07 i thought Ford was Sick

  • Y' know that Ford had a bad hangover the day they shot the scene, and didn't want to go through the whole fight...so he just shot him.

  • @JasonWestenra Actually I think he had the stomach flu and it was really hot there and they could'nt get the whip scene to work because he was tired, they went with the gun thing not sure how people would react, luckily it was one of the best scenes in the movies.

  • @DaShonuff : I book I read about movie history said he had a bad hangover. It really doesn't matter - either way, he didn't want to fight, and created one of the greatest scenes of all time. =)

  • hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side.

  • @claynate lol, did you just copy the comment from that guy on the other indiana video? Just for some thumbs up?

  • @rasui80 sort of, but when i first saw that video i was planning on typing that then scrolled down and saw it was the top comment. lol

  • I saw this film with my dad. When he saw this scene he was so excited: "Yes! Why don't they all do that? I've been saying this for years! Bang! No more bad guy!"

  • That has to be the most classic of all Indiana Jones scenes...

  • this is not just a scene this shows the world that the gun was made to stop an arab because aint no way in hell you can beat them with a sword but portugal lost a war to yemen and portugal had rifles and yemen had swords

  • @salehs313 but we're talking the portuguese. now, if it were yemen against a texan, then it'd be a different story.

  • @zatoth13 soon you will see the real war the real world war when the dajjal (anti-christ) comes and jesus comes the world will wish they were muslim

  • @salehs313 that comment made absolutely no sense whatsoever

  • @zatoth13 it dont have to when that day comes u will know the truth i just hope me and u meet that day so i can laugh in ur face and tell u i told u so i hate it 2 be that way but its ur fault

  • @zatoth13 Are texans really that gun-happy?

  • @concealedknight not really. they just appreciate their second amendment rights a bit more.

  • @concealedknight what does gun-happy mean?

  • @salehs313 since when did portugal fight a war against yemen?

  • @concealedknight way before u were born

  • @concealedknight i think it was in the 16th century. it was not exactly a war as it was an attempt to gain control of a trade route...

  • I'd laugh if Indiana got his revolver out, started spinning it around like that swordsman, then shot him in the head with a change of expression and said, "You wish...".

  • That was the "fuck it" tactic.

  • BOOM HEADSHOT

  • why didn't the swordsmen just throw the sword at Indie. He was at close range so the sword had a good chance of killing Indie.

  • @concealedknight because he was too stupid to realize that Indy had a gun.

  • @concealedknight Swords don't work that way.

  • @concealedknight unbalanced sword for throwing

  • Fact: They cut out the whip and sword scene because Harrison Ford injured his back during filming, and decided a simple gun shot would suffice. (And because guns are way cooler than swords!)

  • @patriotrower no, the sword scene was cut down cause Ford had food poisoning and Steven Spielberg suggested that he just shoot him

  • @Beltzer0072 Oh, thought I saw it on the commentary of Raiders special edition, must be wrong...Sorry!

  • @patriotrower no its cool

  • @Beltzer0072 no Ford suggested it because he didint want to shit his pants during the scene

  • @narutohinataashgaara well thats what I read in the trivia box on IMDB.com

  • Hey as Han said, "hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side"

  • @Beltzer0072 More like a good gun at your side.

  • @concealedknight hey, same concept right? lol

  • when i was a kid my dad laughed so hard at that scene.

  • interesting

  • nearly all the cast was sick, they were all tired and he wasn't bothered to do the scene so he just shoots him inside. quick and easy. always the way to go with indie.

  • Was this scene ever deleted? I saw it even in the TV version of the movie...

  • I was hoping to find the deleted scene where Indy rides the periscope on the sub to the deserted island where they open the Ark. I have a photo of it in the book "The Making of Raiders Of The Lost Ark"

  • The man carries a gun. What else was he gonna do?

  • The swordsman shot first.

  • Back before Ford became an old pothead numbskull.

  • Indy used the Ambassador.

  • Between this and the "I love you." "I know." line in Empire Strikes Back, Ford is an improv genius haha.

  • 12 people brought the scimitar...

  • That was because Ford has diarrhea.

  • that was fake...

  • maybe Lucas should change this in a new edition... Gredo shot first!

  • Harrison Ford is so good at cutting to the chase. He also vastly improved the scene in Empire Strikes Back when Han was getting frozen. In the script Han answered Leia's "I love you" with "I love you too." Harrison said no way would Han say that and came up with his classic "I know". He's a great bullshit detector, that guy.

  • @Serai3 hell yeah. This scene was another great example of improvization

  • Indiana can't handle a REAL swordfight

  • I saw a recent interview with Karen Allen on this and yes the whole crew was ill; except for Spielberg but there was a slightly different take on this that Karen told. The guy they hired to play the swordsman was a glorified extra who had no clue how to use a sword. This was a 3 page fight scene that the poor guy just could not get right. Harrison, tired of take after take pantomimed shooting the guy. The crew thought it was hilarious and that's how it went down. They then reshot it that way

  • @padawan23 Great scence from a fantastic movie

  • @padawan23

That's pretty much the story that I've heard. They tried shooting the scene all day to no avail and Ford got frustrated and shot him, and the rest is history.

  • @jakedill1104 food poisoning

  • Snopes confirmed the dysentery story, but it wasn't improvised after the scene started. Ford persuaded Spielberg to film it that way and it worked.

  • lol The legend goes that Harrison Ford contracted dysentry while they were shooting this in Tunisia and after doing exhuasting fight scene retakes he was so weak he decided to just cut to the chase by shooting the guy which the other actor was crestfallen by after spending so long choreographing his own moment in the sun of film lmaoo gotta love Harrison.

  • @bluejeckett ford also came up with the I KNOW response when leia said I LOVE U in empire strikes back. ford is the humphrey bogart of today

  • bet that guy never knew of a gun before

  • He had dysentary. Which can be pretty bad.

  • Great scene!

  • that wasnt deleted

  • Bad Guy: Take this! And this! And you'll soon get a taste of this!

Indy: I've just fought several guys single handed, busted my butt getting through a crowd of thousands of people, I'm sweaty, and I'm looking for someone...You expect me to fight fair?

    Bad Guy: Um....uh....yes?

    Indy: *Gun shot*

  • see, han solo did shoot first...

  • @ddondo71 LOLOLOLOL You win the internet my good sir.

  • funny story with this! The reason he shot him instead of the big sword fight they had planned was he got sick because of some bad water he drank on set and so he did that instead of what was planed... it fit so well and was so damn funny they left it like this XD

  • @mikillero

...not to mention the swordsman improvised right along, as if it were rehearsed.

  • This is why you never bring a knife to a gunfight

  • Bad guy: Come on! Show me watcha got!

Indy: Dont fuck with me *Takes out pistol* BOOM!

  • @multiplemugs only if they want to kill you with a weapon from the 17th century

  • @multiplemugs Even more amusing than pissing off Americans with a sword.

  • He is impressive at showing off but terrible at fighting!

  • the best death scene ever! fucking epic!, he only did it because he was very sick and did not feel like using the whip.

  • Wow, Han Solo REALLY DID shoot first!

  • Poor guy

  • przewidywalne

  • Screw this. *gunshot* LOL

  • Much better. MUCH BETTER!!

  • Whoever had the idea to change the scene earns an Emmy just for that. xD

  • @SteinbrecherBack Harrison Ford had dysentery (the runs) and wasn't about to do the scene again so he just said "Fuck it" and shot the guy. If you look at his face it even screams FUCK IT as he's taking the gun out.

  • @SteinbrecherBack To be honest the guy with the sword did a great job just rolling with it since it's said that this little gem was actually the first and only take using the gun.

  • like the final scene better its just too awesome

  • Indy: Wat nao?

    Swordsman: Your dun fucked nao.

    Indy: Really........this?

Swordsman: My skillz are to much for you, DIE!!!!111

    Indy: For fuck sake.......

    *BOOM HEADSHOT*

    Indy: GTFO noob......

    Indy: Wait, Marry!

  • American vs Arab

  • 24 are Arab swordsmen too!

  • They changed it because Harrison had some kind of illness, many dudes in the crew had the same thing, it made them be tired the whole time!

  • in the real 1 he just shot the gun because the dude who acts as Indy needed to pee badly

  • @MKWGlitcher actually he had dysentery so he had diarrhea

  • They did not remove this scene because it was racisit or politically incorrect. According to teh DVD extras harrison Ford was worn out that day and after not getting the scene just right Harrison (Tired) asked why he couldnt just shoot the guy, lucas said okay and they ran with it.

  • @tvkid9879

Some of the best things in life are pure coincidence.

The version that ended up being in the movie is way cooler.

  • Maybe George Lucas will rewrite the scene to be more politically correct, like he did in the remastered Star wars Episode 4.

He ruined a perfectly good scene.

  • @JanHBuch I don't know why people keep on bustin lucas for that han scene in star wars, it ended up preety cool, han leans his head to avoid the shot and shots the bounty hunter, is also cool. Is not better or worse than the original scene it was just different so the movies could have something new... I don't think it spoils the caracter in any way...

  • @lauwalk but why?

  • @lauwalk Han shoots first.

  • @lauwalk The difference is that the original Han was a cool badass, who blew people away in bars who were no obvious threat to him. The new one is some kinda Han ninja who can dodge incoming blaster rounds, and who never would be evil enough to shoot first.

    The original was way cooler.

  • Han shot first!

  • Arab swordsman(bandit?): You are going to die, Indiana Jones! You will be diced by my sword, MUHAHAHAHAHA.................

Indy: Sorry, I am busy. So I'm just gonna shoot ya.

    *Gunshot*

  • Cool

  • they actually did it the way they did it (having Indiana Jones shoot him) because Harrison Ford had the flu at the time and doing the stunts was really tiresome. Eventually he just said "why doesn't Indiana just shoot the guy?" and everyone was like "BRILLIANT!"

  • the gun is mightier than the sword

  • he was like man forget this

  • Hahahaha. The best duel EVER!

  • Hey shud of said, Indy: mate, you brought a sword...to a gun fight!

    Swordman: Ay Ay Ay!

    BANG

  • I hears they deleted the scene because Harrison Ford had back problems. But I think the gun scene fits his character better.

  • Hasn't this guy ever heard of "don't bring a knife to a gun fight"?

  • indy looks like "i relly dont have time to this" in hes faceXD

  • FUNNY!!!! When I first saw this I thought it was going to be a great fight but it was over in over 4 seconds!!!!!!!

  • Oh poor swordsman, I kind of feel sorry for him

  • This scene alone is better than the whole 4th movie

  • I think this is considered as the best kill in all time movie history. (Also Trinity's "Dodge this!" from Matrix is high on the list)

  • i like this scene better...

    f*k this

    Bang

let's get out of here 'fore the cops come.

    LOL!

  • Indy is more of a cold blooded murderer than Bond.

  • @jacksawild is a cold blooded murder someone who kills in defense?

  • @FishfilmsInc no.

  • Sword fight ? I aint got time for this fuckin shit ! BANG now let's go to the massage parlor and get laid. Drinks are on me. hahahahaha

  • I didn't see it deleted???

  • the first time i saw this loled alot

  • Swordsman: knife fight?

    Indy: k, lol

    *bang*

    crowd: n00b!

  • This is why one must never use a sword to challenge someone who has stomach problems.

  • @iamhungey12345 he actually had dysentery

  • Dont bring a knife to a gun fight....

  • @BlackDiamond1969 Throwing knife plawx

  • That's true. The final scene was Harrison's idea. He was very sick with diarrhea, I think it was something to do with the really hot weather. He was supposed to use the bullwhip to fight the swordsman. I think he only told Steven Spielberg and George Lucas he was going to do this. They thought this final scene was great, and kept it for the movie.

  • @GnarlyCharlie2000 AND is well known throughout the globe. I don't believe Harrison actually told the directors he would do that, but the rest was pure fact!

  • I heard that the final scene was actually Harrison Ford's idea amidst all the takes of the originally scripted scene.

  • greatest movie scene EVER LOL

  • Jones shot first.

  • Arab: Ehh!! I gonna kill you and chop you up like sushi. I'm gonna...

    Indy: Sorry, bathroom problems

    ***shoots***

  • hahaha i like the undeleted one more =P

  • Thats the reason why swords were replaced with guns

  • The final product was better. The great thing about the "Indiana Jones" franchise was that it mixed humor with action and suspense.

  • haha, owned.

  • I like how they all high-five each other after Indy guns that guy down.

    }:-D

  • LOL a sword against a gun just shot problem solved

  • This is possibly the greatest kill in film history!

  • ''he brought a knife......to a gunfight.''

  • The quote "Donny, you're out of your element!" from The Big Lebowski comes to mind every time I watch this.

  • @beeniestudios YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • LOL

  • I love how they steal his saber.

  • "that was a boring conversation anyway..." LOL

  • EPIC SCENE

  • HAN SHOT FIRST!

  • I saw this movie in the theater when I was 10 years old many times. This scene brought the the theater to hysterics every time. One of the biggest reactions the audience would have was this and the faces melting at the end. Great movie and a big part of my youth. I wish all of you could have seen this on the big screen as kids.

  • Yeah, Harrison Ford came up with the alternate gun version. He had a nasty stomach bug the day of shooting and just sort of came up with "Hey, instead of a whole fight scene, what if I just shoot him instead?" Spielberg thought it was a great idea and the rest is history.

  • The first time I saw this scene, I almost pissed my pants from laughing so hard

  • the most hilarious death in the history of film...
