  • It's just beautiful!!!

  • This makes me cry every time i hear this song! :) It's just so beautiful!

  • How creative how the animal costumes are made. Especially the couchar and giraf. Very beautifull. Making a musical about animals without using animals... Well, that is what I call a challenge. wow.

  • TRUE BEAUTY

  • i saw this musical when it came to melbourne, it is still the best musical i have ever seen in all my life... and i have seen a fair amount... the costumes are amazing, the singing is amazing, the whole thing is just AMAZING... not to mention STUNNING :D

  • Just one question. what makes you ppl cry when you see this? It makes me happy , appreciating life , the biodiversity on earth and human spirituality. What makes you cry here? is it just touching in how good it is and powerful? or do you cry because we kill theese animals and destroy this beautiful planet?.

  • @EtrajbHD I think most people cry at this it's so powerful and amazing- the music and costumes, dancing, sets- everything is overwhelming and just wonderful to behold, absolutely joyous and beautiful, touching and stunning,

  • @EmilyChesterton it made me cry! mainly because The Lion King was my first ever film, and i grew up with it as my favourite ever film, i'd watch it constantly. i still love it to this day, so when my family took me and my sisters to see it for a christmas present it was so overwhelming i just cried! the whole thing is so amazingly clever its simply spellbinding!

  • @EtrajbHD Well I never thought about how we kill these majestic creatures without so much as a thought about it. But the mastery to this is astounding!

  • has anyone happened to see the current cast as well as the original cast, or least have a good reference point. i'm just curious about how well the talent stacks up, as i will be taking my fiance to see it as a christmas gift.

  • @rmaxtpmx They are still perfect. Go see it and be in awe because of the greatness that is The Lion KIng.

  • If you ever have a chance to see this, GO GO GO! It was so AWESOME!

  • 4:12 that's the most awesome sillhouette ever!

  • @videosearcherwhenbor whats a sillhouette

  • im so glad i was able to see this live, with the origional broadway cast

  • Wicked and the Lion King are a tie!

  • @ElphabaWickedGlinda Nah, Wicked's better! Miles better! The Lion King has good costumes and music but Wicked definetely has the wow factor with special effects, music, costumes and basically everything! It's outstanding!

  • @boffinme80 No Lion King is better

  • this musical is the best ive ever seen! well, it was the 2nd, but i must say... ITS THE BEST!!!!!!!

  • I had the great privilege of seeing this live in May. This was one of the best musical I've ever seen. I cried from the sheer amazingness of it. If you ever have an oppotunity to see it live, do it. beyond worth it.

  • Nothing beats lion king in the classics LION KING BEATS ALL!!!!!

  • nothing can beat the lion king in the disney classics LION KING BEATS ALL!!!!

  • :D We did a little bit of this musical at my school for a drama camp for small children, and I was Rafiki. :D This song was so much fun.

  • The costumes and choreography in this musical are nothing less than art.

  • woooooooooooow , the lion king is the best of cartoon disney and musical.

  • So beautiful I saw this musical I didn't realize how good of singing it was until now it is AWESOME.

  • saw this musical SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I realize now how awesome this singing is, and it is so heartrending.

  • @joplinman97613 were people clapping while the people were acting?

  • I love african music so much, its just so rich and stands out from every thing else, it is so beutiful

  • Let me just say that the opening to the Lion King is probably one of the most beautiful, amazing sequences in all of the history of broadway musicals. I mean when I was watching it for the first time (a while ago) I was like "OMG I don't even need to see the rest. I got my money worth just from watching the opening" Amazing show even after all these years!

  • Im going to see this in July. Looks amazing !

  • i remember this sooo much!!!

  • im goin to see this on broadway tomorrow with my choir class. we are all really excited, it looks really good!

  • Man, I wanna see this show sooo bad.

  • Me and my DanceGroup are doing an Imitation on this Broadway Musical and its Awesome =]

  • This is a great show. I've seen it twice.

  • this was my first Broadway show. saw it in 2006 and i was in the 3rd row center.... the BEST Broadway show I've ever seen. and i have seen a lot. it is amazing (its still on Broadway right?)

  • If it is not still on broadway, it is traveling. I saw it in Edmonton August 2009.

  • @notyouraveragething It's a good bet The Lion King will be playing on Broadway for years. It still averages over 99 percent capacity and grosses over $1.4 million a week (second only to Wicked). Since the stage musical began, Disney has grossed well over 3 billion dollars from The Lion King. How ironic that Julie Taymor (who is the genius behind Lion King on Broadway) may ultimately be remembered for the flop that is Spiderman

  • Can't believe it's been 12 years since this performance, seems like I can remember it like it was last year. Took me seven years to finally see the show (caught it in 2004 in San Francisco) and I was blown away. I can honestly say the opening scene is the greatest opening of any Broadway show.

(I had the chance to see it the previous year in New York but chose Phantom - that was a tough choice.)

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS MUSICAL SAW IT 2x

  • now at the beginning like the first minute is that random words they saying or just another launguage ive been listening to this music for my whole life and i still dont get if this is another language

  • i saw this when i was nine and im still nine but i will luv this musical forever

  • I actually saw this on Valentines 2010...the best $82 I ever spent! I saw it in Bushnell, Hartford, CT though...a few differences...costumes were exactly the same, but at the Bushnell they had a real Pride Rock, and the dance setup was different.

  • best thing i have seen on stage xx

  • I cried when I saw this live. Its just magical.

  • My goodness, Tsidii is exceptional. The ending always manages to get a few tears out of me.

  • very good I really like Broadway musical theater.

  • I remember first seeing this show when I was eight. Now 10 years later I still watch the entire show wide eyed and excited. This just shows how timeless not only the story is, but also how well Julie Taymour's directing brought this into a form that all age groups could love

  • is this the actual 1st performance of lion king? 1997?

  • yeah

  • @mickeymouse8494

No. This is the first cast, but the show would have been performed a good few times before the Tony Awards. The show would have opened within a year of this performance though.

  • @mickeymouse8494 this is the first cast of the lion king performing at the tony awards, pretty recently.

  • I wonder how great it was for Loka to come back and sing this song on the stage at the Tony's 10 years later.

  • that wasn't her.

  • on the 1997 awards (this video), was Tsidi LeLoka. at the 2008 one was Tshidi Manye.

  • I need to see this again. I saw it in 2001 and haven't seen it since. After seeing the tony performance last year i told myself I would see it again, but forgot until finding this video...I NEED to see it again this summer.

  • Loka is absolutely amazing. Those first few notes just send chills down your spine, especially when you don't see it coming.

  • :O i dont like the rafiki:| sorry(A)

  • no offense, i love the original broadway cast of the lion king better than the others. they wonderful and talented too, but the 1997 broadway cast will always be the best.

  • Yeah! Jason Raize all the way!

  • Yeah! RIP, Jason...

He was the best Simba. He WAS Simba.

What a voice he had, and what an incredible talent.

  • No Matthew Brodwick WAS Simba and by that I mean he did the voice of adult Simba in the movie and the movie came first Jason Raize just played adult Simba in the musical
