  • not exactly the same drummer as the Stripes.....

  • Comment removed

  • Wow a band with no Bass player, besides the White Stripes

  • That lead singer is so relentless :)

  • doesn't get much better than this

  • a tight fucking sound that

  • I wish more women played the drums, I love Janet's drums, such bouncy drums...

  • i do bealive that this is the most under rated band of all times.

one of the greatest of all times.

  • can listen to this one over and over

  • Carrie jumping at 3:51 is definitely the best part.

  • i think this is better than the studio version. definitely fiercer in the chorus!

  • WOW this is fantastic, just found this

  • WOW. I've just discovered!

  • I've totally banged my air drums to this vid, thinking I'm Janet.

  • fucking awesome.

  • is this band still together? do the other band members work with carrie on portlandia?

  • @leclairjeanm google it.

  • @leclairjeanm they're not together but check out Wild Flag - they're touring now:

WILD FLAG is a Portland, OR and Washington DC based quartet consisting of Carrie Brownstein, Mary Timony, Rebecca Cole, and Janet Weiss. The members of WILD FLAG have played in numerous and notable bands, including but not limited to: Helium, The Minders, Croissant Cocktail, Feeble Knees, Quasi, Dogz, Sleater-Kinney, @@@, The Consortium, Asia, and Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks.

  • this is like the sexiest thing i've seen in my whole entire life..and i have the INTERNET!

  • absolutely perfect performance

  • i love watching janet`s boobs bouncing when she`s playing

  • the more i hear this song, the more i love it

  • looks like Meg White can learn from someone...

  • Hell of a drummer

  • No bass...pretty impressive considering!

  • wow...that just blew me away...you don'y really need to dress like a rocker to be one...it's all in the sound...

  • Carrie is so hot....

  • why divide by drumkits?

  • It's not even funny how awesome this band was. We want S-K back!!!!

  • FUCK ME JANET

  • fucken love S/K!!

  • Carrie sounds like she is sick ..........Or has just smoked a whole ounce ........

  • Janet Weiss is a main inspiration of mine. Come give me drum lessons, giiirrrl!

  • James mercer should have picked janet weiss as the replacement drummer for the shins

  • Girls + guitars / drumkits = WIN.

    Q.E.D.

  • Janet Weiss is soooo underrated!

  • @acebass2 well, they're two of the best rock guitarists and one of the best drummers of the past twenty years, and they rock out like nobody's business. but everyone's got different preferences so it's no biggie if you don't see it.

  • One of the best live TV performances I have ever seen. S/K absolutely shred on this one.

  • Goddamn that drummer is bad fuckin ass!!

  • One of the best drummers out there! Seriously wicked

  • Totally!!! What band is she in now?

  • Janet Weiss the drummer is in the band Quasi.

  • Janet also plays drums in Stephen Malkmus' band the Jicks.

  • @boneheded Saw her play with Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks on the Real Emotional Trash Tour in Nashville '08. She was INCREDIBLE!

  • I miss these ladies - a lot! Very few bands have this kind of energy. Everytime they came to NYC I'd make it a point to see them because they consistently gave this type of performance. Amazing!

  • Very few things in life are perfect, however Sleater-Kinney were one of them.

There isn't anything I would change about them and this performance in particular just sums up for me what an amazing band they were.

I know it's unlikely but I really hope they reform one day. Come back SK, we love you!!!

  • fucking awesome performance there. sleater kinney indeed rule.

  • Does anyone have tabs for this???

  • yay!!!!

  • This is proper good.

    That is all.

  • holy shit

  • Delicious, I love to see bands like this. Nevermind that I have a soft spot for female vocalists. But you can tell that they've earned every ounce of success they have. Like every great band they've crawled from the back of a van to nationwide success and beyond. Trial by fire often yields few, but radiant jewels.

  • I think people blame things on racism and sexism far too often. That having been said, I think a lot of the negative comments about this band (and perhaps their lack of big commercial sucess) may be due, in part, to the fact that they are white women. Many men are very dismissive of women who play and sing rock. (I know; I'm a guy.) Also, if these women were any race except white they would certainly have gotten a lot more attention. They are one of my fav bands right now.

  • dammmmmmmmmmmn!

  • To those musically challenged morons that call this shit, lousy, etc.: Listen, folks, this music is in the ballpark-caliber of Sex Pistols, Babes in Toyland, P.J. Harvey, Violent Femmes -- hey, you naysayers just don't like extremely frighteningly fierce rock'n'roll. This is top-notch, beautiful musical terror.

  • Fierce.

    Really fierce.

    Not Sasha Fierce.

  • This confirms that you have shitty taste in music. ...And, hon, you'll be immediately thumbed off the comments page, so that's genius...

  • Hee hee, Unsterblich, I was totally gonna insult you, but you're obviously like 12 years old, so nevermind...

  • What? Really? I'm hearing a perfectly good sound coming from their instruments. Do you also think Lita Ford shouldn't even pick up her guitar anymore? Why do you even bother to make that comment? You're obviously going to get shit for it.

  • kick-ass drummer;

  • Janet kills it. She's a drumming robot.

  • Hopefully, they'll get back together and tour, like the Pixies and other bands from the 80's and 90's.Maybe open up for the Pixies? Green Day??

  • Green Day should open for them.

  • ENOUGH SAID.

  • so intense. <3

  • Wait, why is she British? At any rate, ferocious performance.

  • british?

  • janet weiss is an amazing drummer

  • @deSadetheImpaler she doesn't have to wise up ;)

  • @deSadetheImpaler i went on a date with her nephew once. He was kind of a dick, but I was starstruck anyway knowing they shared the same genetic code. XD

  • @deSadetheImpaler I went on a date with her cousin once...he was an arse but goddamn I wish I'd kept his number for the obvious advantages. :p

  • Kind of interesting that Fugazi has come up in the replies to this video. Sleater-Kinney and Fugazi are my two favourite bands. Like... by far.

  • Yeah they're both really really good. :D

  • I fucking love them too. Amazing band, and after Fugazi left us, these guys were the only remaining one. Now they've gone too.

  • A hole was left in the American Cultrual landscape when these three decided to break up.

  • Saw them warm up for Fugazi and the Ex in 1998 or 99. They were good. Not as good as fugazi or the ex but still damn good. great show.

  • the drummers boobs are distracting. good energy. lots of bands use downtuned guitars. I do. who needs a bass player?

  • and i thought i was the only one who had noticed her boobs...

  • concerning boobs, there is no such thing as not noticing

  • are boobs a bad thing?

  • not at all! I was trying to put it nicely. Ya know, not to sound to much like a perv, haha.

  • God, I fucking love these girls...

  • eeeeeeew, webby! calm yourself.

    but i agree.

  • great live version of an awesome song.

  • muy bueno! personalmente me gusta más la voz de la colorada que es más personal, a la morocha indefectiblemente la relaciono a pj harvey.

  • I dont wanna be disrespectin no one, but one of s-ks strongpoints is that they do not NEED a bass player.

If you listen to a few specific recordings, corin tuckers ingenuity begins to shine through; she tunes her electric way down, and uses both regular amps and bass amps to pick up on the lows of the low-end and the highs and twangs of the high-end—and it genuinely sounds like two guitarists in one.

Listen to the opening riff of dance song 97 on a good pair of headphones.

    Sublime.

  • I know! The fact that they use a downtuned guitar instead of a bass is oddly awesome. I've never seen it done successfully, and it just shows the ingenuity and creativity of the band. IT brings a whole new level of sound into the mix that frankly, works sublimely for them.

  • 7 nation army by the white stripes was done pretty well.

  • I've seen hundreds of shows w/ ass-loads of different bands over the last 30 years and Sleater-Kinney is right among the top.

    As good as rock gets...

  • I want to kiss all of them. "Wa-aww-oouhh!"

  • idiot.

  • grow up

  • Looohoooserrrrrrr

  • Who says chicks can't rock?

  • amazing

  • i miss seeing them at la luna back in the day.

  • i am in love with carrie && Corin ... I would marry either, but since Corin's already marry, I will happily go for Carrie :]]]

  • Best music to come along since Nirvana. Shame I never got the see Sleater Kinney live. amazing

  • Goddamn, Janet's drums sound fuggin HYOOOOOGE here. And Carrie is about as sexy as she's ever been. Bums me out that she's a lesbo. Not that I'd ever have the balls to talk to her anyway, but still.

  • Que grandes son estas mulleres!!!

    Moitos deberían aprender delas.

  • I am speechless. I have never ever had all over goosebumps like i am experiencing right now. I found Sleater kinney 6 years ago. I was 15. I am entirely grateful. oh my

  • It's so unique...Sleater-Kinney will always be classic.

  • This fuk'n Rocks

  • lol

  • lmao!

  • Omg, Janet is SO great! Love her!

  • God bless this for reminding me, as a musician, to not over-think/over-produce/over-perfect anything. Good shit.

  • Janet OWNS this song!

  • chills, everytime i watch it...

  • There is much to commend here. I'll just say that I suspect this will become a timeless classic...and before long it will be included within the canon of Christmas carols sung every year, on cue, at the doorsteps of many a craven hominid. I liked this very much indeed.

  • they rock, love this x

  • I D.J.yed this sh@t all the time... luv it.

  • YEAAAAHHH I wish they still existed and performed......

  • THIS is what punk rock is all about!

  • lol. i love s-k! i saw carrie in trader joes here in portland and she got stopped by fans outside so i didnt want to bother her more: )Janet's my favorite drummer ever.

  • janet is great for sure.

  • Hang on. The Henry Rollins Show?

  • best show ever for music

  • fucking intense.. so well choordinated

  • Carrie is fucking fantastic, love this song sooo much.

  • they really are fantastic

  • I really miss them.

  • that was fucking awesome! I really wish they would get back together.I love how they work there guitars and the way the drummer drums! its just so fucken awesome!! gahhh I wanna make seet monkey love to their drummer!! lol

  • THEY NEED TO GET BACK TOGETHER.

some one needs to keep the riot grrrl attitute still around.

  • I love this song.

SK is a really good band, I wish they didn't break up...

And I really love the drums in this song.

  • its a perfect fit, sk on the henry rollins show

    (who was from black flag)

two bands that brought raw energy with powerful and pure noise

  • 3.55 carrie did a pete townsend!

    they really kick ass

  • I love the drummer. Their voices. God. Its so great.

  • brilliant.

  • Insane songwriting + boundless energy. They blow every most every male-driven rock group out of the water. They're simply one of the best rock bands EVER. Time magazine and about every critic in the country would agree. It's sooo obvious. They JUST rock. I've never gotten such a rush at a show, maybe at Radiohead. But that's it. S-K forever.

  • ;~~~ corin

  • This song is a different animal live....

  • FUCKING AWESOME!.. I wish they didn't break up... I hope they'll come back again, they might.. I mean, it wasn't on bad terms.. and they seem to really love performing, especially Carrie, she always looks so into it.

  • I love the Sleater-Kinney wow

  • they're soooo gooood...

  • janet weiss is a fucking beast on the drums.

she just brutalizes those damn things...so much energy...

  • I don't like their music so much, but their energy is easily a huge draw for me.

  • Right on: I'm not a huge fan but they're the kind of band I would not hesitate to see live. I also make sure people know about them!

  • they should come back

nobody can rock like they did

  • kyuss

  • janet weiss is my favourite drummer!

  • RIP SK

  • there's nothing like going out on top. the energy, power, inventiveness, and pure bliss of this and all of the woods is remarkable. let's do the world a favor and refer to them as musicians, artists whatever - but categorizing as girls is just crap. they are beyond that nonsense...

  • epic!

  • "the only we can appreciate are the very big drummer tits" ---> you're an asshole with bad grammar

i love this performance, corin's voice sounds amazing!

  • true art! this is fucking brilliant. very unique

  • Holy crap. Those three are so talented and so hot. Great live performance.

  • i got tingles! that was awesome!

  • these girls ain't play like no girls

  • love them and henry

  • perfect!

  • Flawless! It just got better as time progressed. The kids should learn from this old school band as an example.

  • looks like she's having an asthma attack....jeez 0.0

  • Lots of people hate Corin Tucker's voice, but those ppl suck.

  • Punk rock isn't about "carrying a tune". If you want to hear music where the singers sing pefectly in tune, maybe you should listen to.. uhh.. idk.. this years american idol winner?.. stfu you fucking tool.

  • you really don't know jack shit about punk rock huh? it is about music, but it's more than being about music. punk rock started as a political statement, a rejection of mainstream culture and music. do the signers of bad brains, black flag, bikini kill, etc, etc, sit there and belt out balads?.. no, they pretty much yell. wow.. you're a tool, please stfu and brush up on your knowledge of punk rock, I can't explain the whole thing to you here on this tiny youtube post, sorry.

  • i think it's about the music. it's just not perfect music, it's not clean cut. i'd say these guys are pretty talented musicians and i like the way they sound even if they might have a picture perfect sound.

  • i guess u never herd the sex pistols.

  • That's funny because if I could have any vouce in the world it would be Corin's.

  • nice how old are they there like my mums age when i was 12 !!
