@leclairjeanm they're not together but check out Wild Flag - they're touring now:
WILD FLAG is a Portland, OR and Washington DC based quartet consisting of Carrie Brownstein, Mary Timony, Rebecca Cole, and Janet Weiss. The members of WILD FLAG have played in numerous and notable bands, including but not limited to: Helium, The Minders, Croissant Cocktail, Feeble Knees, Quasi, Dogz, Sleater-Kinney, @@@, The Consortium, Asia, and Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks.
@acebass2 well, they're two of the best rock guitarists and one of the best drummers of the past twenty years, and they rock out like nobody's business. but everyone's got different preferences so it's no biggie if you don't see it.
I miss these ladies - a lot! Very few bands have this kind of energy. Everytime they came to NYC I'd make it a point to see them because they consistently gave this type of performance. Amazing!
Delicious, I love to see bands like this. Nevermind that I have a soft spot for female vocalists. But you can tell that they've earned every ounce of success they have. Like every great band they've crawled from the back of a van to nationwide success and beyond. Trial by fire often yields few, but radiant jewels.
I think people blame things on racism and sexism far too often. That having been said, I think a lot of the negative comments about this band (and perhaps their lack of big commercial sucess) may be due, in part, to the fact that they are white women. Many men are very dismissive of women who play and sing rock. (I know; I'm a guy.) Also, if these women were any race except white they would certainly have gotten a lot more attention. They are one of my fav bands right now.
To those musically challenged morons that call this shit, lousy, etc.: Listen, folks, this music is in the ballpark-caliber of Sex Pistols, Babes in Toyland, P.J. Harvey, Violent Femmes -- hey, you naysayers just don't like extremely frighteningly fierce rock'n'roll. This is top-notch, beautiful musical terror.
What? Really? I'm hearing a perfectly good sound coming from their instruments. Do you also think Lita Ford shouldn't even pick up her guitar anymore? Why do you even bother to make that comment? You're obviously going to get shit for it.
@deSadetheImpaler i went on a date with her nephew once. He was kind of a dick, but I was starstruck anyway knowing they shared the same genetic code. XD
I dont wanna be disrespectin no one, but one of s-ks strongpoints is that they do not NEED a bass player.
If you listen to a few specific recordings, corin tuckers ingenuity begins to shine through; she tunes her electric way down, and uses both regular amps and bass amps to pick up on the lows of the low-end and the highs and twangs of the high-end—and it genuinely sounds like two guitarists in one.
Listen to the opening riff of dance song 97 on a good pair of headphones.
I know! The fact that they use a downtuned guitar instead of a bass is oddly awesome. I've never seen it done successfully, and it just shows the ingenuity and creativity of the band. IT brings a whole new level of sound into the mix that frankly, works sublimely for them.
Goddamn, Janet's drums sound fuggin HYOOOOOGE here. And Carrie is about as sexy as she's ever been. Bums me out that she's a lesbo. Not that I'd ever have the balls to talk to her anyway, but still.
I am speechless. I have never ever had all over goosebumps like i am experiencing right now. I found Sleater kinney 6 years ago. I was 15. I am entirely grateful. oh my
