As a 7 year old boy I remember going to the house next door and the couple there had this exact machine. It was then that my obsession with washing machines began - to say I was fascinated by the Hoovermatic would be an understatement. My mother had a Philips Top Twin Deluxe which seemed boring by comparison to me! The pulsator was amazing because you couldn't see it - I think that was part of the mystery. I always loved the moment when it appeared as the tub emptied!
I see you got a new toy to play with ha ha but one question: why are you filling the spin dryer up with water? I don't think you are suppose to do that.
i live in the us, and have had a couple of these. i just loved them. been searching for one, for years! i even have it on my wish list on ebay, but no responses. they were great little machines, and very effecient, and fast. i have a pair of new front loader whirlpools, red, with the stands. i would actually trade them if i could find another of these!!
excellent machine very sweet sounding for it's age love the gurgle from the wash tub as the last drops of water are pumped out by the spin can my mothers hoover twintub used to do the same compared to the auto washers of today you could get your laundry done so much quicker
Fantasic machine, has it had an overhall or is it in its original state. I have recently aquired the latest model that Hoover made, the T5090 gray. It was a fantasitc find as it was in an old neigbors garage still in its pacaging. there was even a lump of polystirine in the spin can. its a great machine and the auto rinse is great. Do you collect twin tubs?
I have just got a 3304 from Ebay. It was built in Meadowbank, Sydney. Needs some work to get it operational. Just ordered the new pump from a place in New South Wales. (Funny Australian Hoovermatics being made in New South Wales!). Only real concern is a corroding spin tub.
Thanks for sharing this on here, I have sat here and cried with so many happy memories of watching and helping my Gran use the exact same machine unfortunatly both have passed on , only thing I did not here was the Hover spinning whistle. I destinctly remember the whistle as the water emtied out of the spinner.
Just a question, i use the auto rinse on my machine, two rinses, then i turn the load "upside down" for another two. But sometimes the rinse isn't as good as a manual one, so, do the non deluxe machines have a more powerful motor? Cos if i tend to over fill my spinner above half way, it labours the motor, plus i have noticed on the first three models of machine (not sure about this one) the outer spin canister is cone shaped, ie giving quicker emptying. Or does mine need looking at?
I have used nearly every Hoovermatic machine, currently i have the last version T5090, but i haven't used this model, the previous version the one with the wash timer on the spinner and the "washdog" version. This one is my dream machine....just like the design, and its veery simple. The first model my granny had and it was in use until four years ago when the wash tub finally collapsed after nearly 50 yrs of use, but it was the best machine of all of 'em! Would love one of these! Nice vid!
It is interesting to note the TIMER control occupies the middle position and thermostat (no 48C) to the right as opposed to all succeeding models being the opposite. This was I believe due to the two-knob unheated 3304 model which only had a two knobs so there wouldn't be a gap in the middle of the control console allowing all modelsto be fitted in same position on the factory production line. After the 3304 was discontinued, all unheated models had three knobs beginning with the 3307 in 1968
It is wonderful to see a 3301L in action Mike. My mother had the succeeding 3309L from 1967 but the Hoover Guide to Washing booklet supplied with hers had a photo of 3301L from which I used to think the hose connection in the corner of the tub was a suds return inlet instead of an outlet. This one is in stunning condition and the restoration very professional. This model and 3304/3304E and 3309L were fast at emptying. A rare find being the first top control Hoovermatic.
I miss my HooverMatic, even though it spat more water over the floor than dripped from the clothes :-) I love the fact it can wash without a paddle, that other contributors explanation was excellent. Water so hot it gave me asbestos hands :-) Those were the days. Washing AND Spinning, made you feel SO productive, you were doing two things at once, your automatic can't do that today!
Hi, Moved on long ago from a twin tub (was a 3174 won in a sales contest) now use an Auto. Re the water currents it is 6 with the AWA running. [1 eddy in each corner = 4 General water movement and down draught of water to the activator] you can point these out to a prospect when they ask "Why no paddle" like some competitors. The 7th can only be seen in clean water when you switch off as that is a cross vortex of water and bubbles from the activator across the centre of the tub. Cheers Kered
@chestermikeuk my granny had one washer of this kind. unfortunately it disappeared under my nose - i was too young to react when it left our hands anyway. i wish i could find it again in such a great working condition.
Beautiful machine you have there. I can see why "wash day" was a once a week chore in our house. It brought back many happy memories of the high pitched scream the empty spinner made when you were pumping out the water too. What detergent were you using? I miss the smell of boiling "Bold 3" or "Drive" (Q-Matic from Kwiksave when times were hard) lol
Yes the restoration turned out superb, you do get used to what all those sounds mean!!! Powder was Sainsbury own bio, previous formula, newer stuff sudz a lot!!!
Was nice to see the 45year old 3301L (to give it its correct number L for the linked heater/timer) A few points though 1)Should use the spin can cover on the spin load not leave it on the drainer! 2) Should never load with the AWA running as it causes splashing. 3) To show the 6 currents of active water action it's best to have no powder in the tub. and 4) We (the guys who sold 'em) always called it the
Thirty-three OIL. But thanks it was very nostalgic.
Glad you enjoyed it, do you have a Hoovermatic or did you just sell them?? would be very interested to here other Hoover stories..I tend only to use the mat with small items, never lost anything overboard yet!!! Is it six currents, you mentioned 7 on another thread??
