Marriage is an institution that was started by people that believed in God. The seperation of church and state means than the goverment has no right to make you believe in any particular belief system. Marriage is (a religious) tradition meant for procreation. Not getting married is an atheist tradition. Everyone keep to your own traditions and we'll all be fine. If religious people are a majority, atheists need to stand together, possibly away from religious people. You have no right to criticize others, nor they have the right to criticize you. @TheBladeEdge Who says it's for procreation? The government grants benefits to married couples, but not all married couples have children. So those married couples without children are pretty much stealing tax payer dollars when other people who can't have kids aren't able to get married because of it. Sterile people can get married and have benefits, gay people can't? You can't print your own money because it's GOVERNMENT issued, there's a seperation of church and state.
The idea of separation of church and state is to define that the church and state are separate bodies in terms of governing control. The church cannot be the ruling organization of the centralized government.
Although I do not believe in God most of the people involved in the establishment of this country did. Although they understood the importance of separation of church in state they would not have found it necessary to withhold phrases like "In God we Trust" from being on currency.

Humans are the only species that perform marriages, and probably the only species that may have years long courting....but these are relatively new developments anyway, and are not practiced among all human soceties. The idea of separation of church and state is to define that the church and state are separate bodies in terms of governing control. The church cannot be the ruling organization of the centralized government.
Although I do not believe in God most of the people involved in the establishment of this country did. Although they understood the importance of separation of church in state they would not have found it necessary to withhold phrases like "In God we Trust" from being on currency.

Total agreement, and not just cause you're good looking. Church and state are becoming way too muddled. People point to the fact that the founding fathers were religious men. True, but they understood that church and state should never mix. Their view of a god who didn't belong in governmental affairs of man, would today be closely considered atheistic. I suggest reading "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins. Stand up friends! Let it be known we will not settle for the hypocrisy of the church!

The greater majority of the founding fathers (George Washington, Ben Franklin, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson ect.) were not christians and many of them were anti religion, in god we trust was put on our money in the 1950s, beforehand it was not present. Its anti american to have it on our currancy and you seem anti american as well.

This country was founded on Christian-Judeo roots.Judeo-Christian values are what distinguish America from all other countries. That is why American coins feature these two messages: "In God we trust" and "Liberty." Christians who founded America saw themselves as heirs to the OT. Jefferson wanted the design of the seal of the United States to depict the Jews leaving Egypt.The battle over whether US remains Jud-Chris or becomes secular like Europe is what the American Civil War is about.
